The benefits and the danger of the "new money."

Over the last fifteen years or so, the government has been struggling to stop counterfeiters and to stay ahead of the technology that counterfeiters use. That has meant redesigning our currency to add certain features that are not copied with high tech computers and copiers. The old "threads" in the paper just aren't enough anymore, so now we have ribbons woven into the paper with security features printed on the ribbons and watermarks in paper and micro printing which cannot be photocopied at your local copy store or using your office copier. And soon (maybe) the newest of the anti-counterfeiter currency will be released-- the new $100 bill with the very prominent "blue ribbon" that will contain images that will change shape and appear to move as the bill is tilted. This is being called a "3D ribbon" because of how it will appear to move and change. While the new bills are needed, I am also concerned by the amount of "new money" including coins that are being released. My concern is that the designs are changing so frequently -- especially with coins -- that you have to stop and look to be sure you are not accepting a carnival token or a foreign coin by mistake. When the State Quarters program started some of the quarters did resemble tokens used in game rooms. And the new pennies with the shield on the back, or those other pennies with illustrations of Abe Lincolns history also make you look twice.

I'm all for having commemorative coins and new paper money to stop counterfeiters, but I am also opposed to having so many changes in our money that we have to stop and wonder if the money we are getting is real.

i have seen that currancey design is changed & it's huge disicciton is been taken by the goverment.. recentrly i think United Kingdom did this... & reciving old currency for generatly duplication issue...

Is there any concern that these new hundies won't be accepted in the slot machine feeders?

I spoke to several casinos about this and they were notified well before the original release date, as were the manufacturers of the currency/bill acceptors, Everyone told me they were already "adjusted" for the new currency. However, I also asked if the staffs have been advised, trained, informed about the new $100 bills. They said they saw "handouts" with photos -- probably no more than the photos I have here and you can find elsewhere on the Internet -- and that's it.

The real issue is that when the new $100 bills are released that if the public doesn't know what the "real new bills" look like, that someone might be able to pass a phony.

Remember the problem with the "new $10 bills" and how they were being rejected?

This is a good progress, It would be beneficial for people. Its implementation require more time and effort. It is not the easy way it require many years for implementation.

Ismael, the new $100 bills with the new colors and designs are not out yet. What $100 bills are you referring to?
