Review of Guy Fieri's El Burro Borracho restaurant -- now in Laughlin, soon coming to Rio Las Vegas
While in Laughlin, I decided to try Guy Fieri's new El Burro Borracho restaurant.
It was hit and miss.

The good:
I ordered a carne asada taco plate, which came with 3 beef soft tacos, beans, and rice. I substituted the usual toppings (onions and something else) with cheddar cheese. They were pretty good. Beans were pretty good, too. Plate was $16.
I also ordered a chicken tortilla soup. It tasted good, but it had way too much cabbage in it. I've never even heard of cabbage being in tortilla soup, but this had so much that it felt like I was chewing cabbage with every bite, and I don't like cabbage at all. I then gave the soup to my girlfriend, who liked it a lot and finished it all. But I'd still rate the soup as good, as it was more my personal taste of not liking the cabbage.
The bad:
Before they seat you, they lead you up to the wall of crap associated with Guy Fieri (souvenirs, sauces, etc), and tell you that you can buy them at any time. Tacky.
Adding to the "tacky" theme, you have to walk up the check yourself and pay at the register, even though it's otherwise a full service restaurant. Even worse, they decided to let some old people who were buying 7 jars of sauce on a comp cut in front of me, and I had to stand there and wait for a few minutes while they wrapped them all.
My girlfriend got the Acapulco Gold Salad with chicken ($14), and didn't like the chicken in it. I tasted it and agreed. Seemed like some chopped-and-formed, frozen-and-warmed-up crap.
Overall, it was fine for Laughlin (where food isn't exactly known to be gourmet), but I don't think it will go over very well in Vegas, even at the Rio.
