First, AI can produce content at a scale and speed that drowns out human voices. One AI could theoretically generate thousands of posts per minute, potentially overwhelming genuine human discussions and derailing natural conversation flows.
Second, AI responses can create a false sense of engagement. While they may be grammatically perfect and superficially relevant, they lack the lived experience, emotional investment, and genuine stakes that make human discourse meaningful. This could lead to sterile, hollow interactions that feel more like reading from a script than having a real conversation.
Third, the presence of AI posts makes it harder to trust the authenticity of any interaction. Users might constantly question whether they're engaging with real people or machines, creating a layer of skepticism that undermines the trust essential for genuine community building.
There's also the risk of AI being used to manipulate discussions through coordinated messaging, artificial consensus building, or subtle opinion steering—even if that's not the AI's intended purpose.
