A Tale of Woe -- A Tale of Two
So I sided the college game last night with a -6 (-130) and +10 (-130). That was fine. Then I won both the total and side of the NFL game in the Heritage Race to the Super Bowl, which probably moves me into the top 40 out of a couple thousand, which is also fine.
But I had a moment in time. YouWager, and the inimitable KewlJ can verify this, does a 10K weekly giveaway for those picking the exact Thursday Night NFL score. I have hit it two or three times in the past decade, but split the money with others, netting between $500 and 2K each time.
The first Thursday game, I picked 27-20, and the score wound up 24-20. Close but no cigar.
But last night, and partly thanks to the trendsvestites on this forum, I took an off-the-wall stance and picked the chalk by 10, 27-17. Well, with three minutes to go, the score was 27-10 and Washington scored. I thought, hmmmm, I have a chance, and because it's not a score near the spread, I may have a shot at $3300 or 5K or something substantive. But Washington inexplicably went for two. LOL. I was no lock that 27-17 would have been the final had they kicked, as there was 2:53 left, but what chart/formula/strategy yields the decision to go for two?
I sat there, but I must admit it all happened too fast for the absurdity to register. Anyway, it wound up 27-18. Horseshoes and hand grenades and all that.
Why would you go for two?
P.S. I just checked the Race to the Super Bowl standings. I'm tied for 27th. Not too shabby. Now these Goddawful toss-up NFL games actually become important to me. Gag me with a spoon.
