So the idea is they have jurisdiction over criminal complaints pertaining to certain types of crime committed outside casinos, and they have the option to ban defendants from the strip?
I think it's a good idea assuming it's legal. I often feel some regret for tourists, especially foreign tourists, having to see some of the miscreants that hang out around the strip. And it should certainly reduce certain types of crime overall that only make sense on the strip (e.g. trick rolling, mugging tourists).
From my reading of the article it seemed that the only sticking point is constitutionality. I don't know if jurisdiction is the problem or the penalty of barring people from the strip. Maybe both. Maybe it's an equal protection violation to have a court designed only to protect certain businesses?

Only problem is it’s not the main cause of the tourism decrease.
The biggest cause is the price gouging. So if couldn’t hurt, but it probably wouldn’t do much to improve tourism.
Also enforcement could be difficult.
Banning people from public sidewalks may be difficult to do legally & even if that is not a problem having enough officers to track banned people & arrest them without seeing more serious crime rise in other parts of the city due to manpower issues could be a problem too.
They'd probably use facial recognition software to sniff out and identify past offenders.
The only legal issue I see would be whether the kangaroo court provides adequate due process and constitutional protections.
Maybe first amendment rights? The one that says you can't ban people from gathering or associating?Quote:
