The failure of successive crop cycles dovetailed with the inflationary pressures created by the pandemic and the war in Ukraine, as well as the ongoing instability within Somalia as the fragile government battles the entrenched insurgency of Islamist extremist group al-Shabab.

“We don’t know where the end is,” Michael Dunford, WFP’s regional director for East Africa, told me, warning of the need for the international community not only to reckon with the ongoing crisis, but the future cycles of drought and suffering to come as the effects of global warming disproportionately impact regions like the Horn of Africa.

“It’s not about the climate changing — the climate has changed. And we are not going back even once the rains start,” he said. “This is a crisis that we are well and truly in the middle of and I don’t know where the bottom is.”

It poisons the environment. But if you want electric cars then open pit mining is going to skyrocket.

Keeping a vehicle with moderate use charged at home is the equivalent of having 5 refrigerators running 24 hours a day. If suddenly everyone today was driving electric then the electricity grid in Cali would collapse. They've got a couple of decades to come up with a solution to the coming electricity shortage....but they are Californians. They can fuck up a steel ball with a feather. Good luck to them but they are fucking idiots hammering nails into their own coffins.

I separated from the Democratic Party long before Trump. John Kerry in 2004 did it for me. I was a moderate democrat but the party kept shifting more and more left. Now it's a loony bin. What we as a country do to respond to climate change is definitely political. The science behind it isn't. It can be influenced by politics but at its core it is not a political thing. It is just a fact. Anyone who thinks belief in such things make that person a libtard or whatever is CLEARLY not a centrist/moderate. Rather they're completely deluded about themselves.

Mickey calls himself centrist because he gets government benefits of some sort. Betcha he supports that.

I always love the way you young fucking idiots bash those on SS. Like you ain't going to draw it when you get that age. Hell, you'll be tripping over yourself to get to that first SS check. But SS is a mandatory retirement system that everyone pays into during their working life. It's actually a ripoff compared to IRA's. People that draw SS are getting fucked. I never understood conflating the collection of SS benefits with somehow being a socialist. It's not like one had a choice to opt out of contributing to SS.
The last time a pres (I think it was around 2000-2004) talked about letting people contribute to their own IRA or similar instrument, it was roundly condemned by the left. Saving people from themselves, I guess.
Considering the Ponzi scheme that SS now seems to be, I would think most young people starting into the work force would love to have the ability to opt out and invest the money on their own.
