Something you guys forgot to mention about Monet's "bad beats" loss, of which I was tagging along (for less than him). Danny did mention Edmonton hit the post 5 times in the first two periods. Monet mentioned how Edmonton, blew a 4-1 lead giving up 2 goals in 16 seconds or some damn thing. Edmonton then scored to go back up 2.
But here is what you forgot to mention. With 4 minutes and change left, Edmonton took a 4 minute double minor! So instead of just killing off the final 4 minutes, they were shorthanded the final 4 minutes, making winning by 2 very unlikely. Chicago eventually scored with a minute left. And finally, Edmonton had a breakaway in the final minute. I have no idea why Chicago's goalie was still in net, but he stoned the Edmonton player, sealing the deal.
Valid point with the double minor penalty.
There was also another EDM play that bugged me about losing. I think it was before the penalty and in my mind started the slide. An EDM player skated with the puck, in traffic, in front of his own goal , lost the handle and CHI scored. Fundamental hockey play is to take puck behind your own net.

Anyway, Red, I would guess that it was a New Year's Eve celebration, because Christmas was banned in Russia for some time. My (childhood) family celebrated Christmas Day, with the grandparents, here in Canada. Long tables too. My best friend's family, way back then, would open gifts, the day before. Personally, I'm not one for traditions, actually more into putting the Christmas stuff up late, and letting it a couple weeks into January. Easier to do the shopping, then. I don't even bother with turning the clocks, just keep my days the same in that respect.
