Yes, great points. I would have cast Gina Carano (Haywire 2011) in that role - much more believable, IMHO and much less expensive to have in the cast compared to Nicole. Unfortunately, four years later or so, Disney cancelled Gina (vaporizing her career) since she isn't woke (but in 2018, when Destroyer was made, she hadn't been cancelled yet) so I hope things work out for her somehow.

I enjoyed Tom Nichol's (Benicio's) unflappability - the outlet for his fears and concerns occurred only in the privacy of his dreams. The casting was perfect and it was a well done mystery in terms of twists, although, as you know, it was obvious from the beginning that Justin Timberlake/Grady (and his mom) was as guilty as a mother fucker. I swear, Eric Bogosian/Captain Robert Allen looks and sounds like Sydney Pollack, but he died in 2008.

The movie is a bit of a Tarantino knock off, but it felt linear too me.
The girlfriend doesn't make much sense, to me, in the storyline, but you know, sex sells.
And this movie is a bit of a spoof.
That makes it easier to swallow.
I really wanted it to keep going.
Or give us an extended directors cut.
More Frog Backstory.
More Malkovich Backstory.
Or I could just rewatch the stupid thing.

I watched a lot of movies, but I wasn't a buff, so I didn't really notice him.
He's in Swimming with Sharks and I don't even remember him in that.

Well, in License to Kill, he plays a henchman (Dario). He and another henchman first appear in that coastal bar room scene where the bar is situated right on the wharf. What I think makes him such a great actor is that he is terrific in both villain and good-guy roles, whereas many other very popular actors are only good as mostly playing villains or mostly playing good-guys.

I enjoyed the movie as you had figured Monet. Regardless of where the truth lies, this movie convinced me that it is a really bad idea for anyone to get into the business of selling illegal drugs. Clever, dry, southern dialogue throughout. Nice Southern soundtrack (they had everything jammed in there but Flirtin' With Disaster). A Malkovich prequel would be great as you basically suggested. One thing we know is that Bright/Malkovich took the "Always Obey My Orders" directive from Frog, was recruited into Frog's crew after the Donut Shop brothers, and then issued the same directive to Swin and Kyle when he brought them into the crew.

I think, in the real world, those black guys never get invited into this sort of operation.
And I think it's more surgical with no body count.

I saw this movie last night. I agree that it was pretty good. 2014 was pre-pizzagate and they may not have anticipated the awareness that post-2016 viewers would have after the Podesta Wikileak that occurred in 2016 when they put in all the pizza symbolism - Hollywood may not have allowed the pizza scenes to get through the final edits if this movie had been made after the Podesta scandal. They got the cult-infested landscape of Southern California on point and the hippy vibe the movie conveyed for that time period was decent (except that back then I doubt you had 10/10 women running around all over the place - even in Socal). Enough of the humor throughout the movie was good enough also.

I found The Pale Blue Eye fascinating for its atmospheric winter landscapes and its attempt to blend historical drama with mystery, but I agree the satanic ritual felt unnecessary and out of place. It would've been stronger if the focus stayed on Poe and the investigation rather than veering into that territory. As for Christian Bale's character, the twist was well-executed, but it could have been even more impactful with subtle clues planted earlier for a sharper aha! moment.

Yesterday night, I watched Bad Santa 2 (2016) on television. It wasn't anywhere near as good as the original Bad Santa (2003). The raunchy humor just wasn't as well implemented as that of the original. It just seemed like a money grab that took advantage of the success of the first film. For diehard fans of the original movie, I suppose this film would deserve a watch for continuity purposes, but, overall, this is a mediocre film at best.
