Redietz, that's a very peculiar situation. I'd probably be the sucker who got entrapped by that kind of scam. So a couple of questions:
1. Do you think this guy was talking to you when he said "God bless you" and was looking at you somehow from the next stall, observing what you did? (a simple mirror at the end of the stick would work.)
2. Could he have still confronted you because your fingerprints were on his wallet?
3. And how did you determine that it was a scam and the wallet was planted by the guy in the next stall?
And yes, the story "creeped me out" and will make me think twice about touching a wallet. And because of what you wrote, if I came across a wallet now what I would more likely do is notify a restroom attendant or notify a security person. Besides, I would try not to touch a wallet or anything I found in a bathroom stall.

The guy was talking to me -- he must have been peering at me from some angle. I talked to my friends in law enforcement, and they said the most likely scenario was -- I walk out of the restroom with the wallet, he immediately confronts me, and the story turns into me having stolen it or some such, but money is missing and he's going to have me arrested unless I reimburse him. His picture was in the wallet, so if I walk out of the restroom with it, it's clearly not my wallet. Major hassle if I have to deal with security, trying to convince them I didn't pick his pocket or whatever.
Actually, it's a great scam.
