It would depend a lot on vegetation. If there was a stone fence. Most of the heat is due to radiation and that radiation adds up. So a fence can absorb a lot of the radiant heat .. or brick. I hear so much talk about reservoirs being empty but when a house burns down the pvc piping is going away and there would he infinite leaks causing a catastrophic failure in the water system. Or at least that is what I would think.

Both of you are right. Fire resistant roofs & building materials, multipaned windows, brush clearance directly around the house, all these things greatly increase the chances of a house surviving.

Interestingly enough, a lot of it comes down to luck.

Another thing that doesn’t hurt is government officials that are focused more on emergency services & filling emergency service leadership with the best qualified people instead of people that check off a box because they are lesbian or they had their dicks chopped off.

I'm not sure how much the quality of people matter when fighting fires. Either tehy do their job or they don't. For the most part these people should have prepared their homes. It sucks that you probably need to get rid of all the trees around your house but small price to pay for something that seems fairly inevitable now.

Everything seems so incredibly politicized. Republicans don't want to tax anyone to pay for anything and will also spend it on dumb shit when given the chance. So so tired of it all.

I remember years ago some big fire like this happened. One dude's house worked and it was some asian engineer who had the house built himself (or did it himself) Cinderblocks ftw.

Ultimate it is on people ot make sure their place is fireproofed. They know how these winds work. Blaming it all on the government is a fucking joke. No one wants to take responsibility. Like the level of fire protection to prevent this would have been so high it was not affordable. Perhaps it the government cut down the brush in people's YARDS but then we'd hear the right complaining about big government. People are too stupid all over. We're doomed.

Well enough of this from me. Bottom line is if you choose to live in California, be prepared to deal with earthquakes and I guess huge wind swept fires wiping out tens of thousands of homes. If you live in Florida, be prepared to deal with hurricanes every year. If you live in the plains in the middle of the country, be prepared to have your home blown away from tornados. If you live in New Orleans, be prepared for a once in a hundred year flood, every 5 years or so. And climate change IS making all these weather things worse. But you can choose to deny that as well if you want. :rolleyes:

Makes living in the desert look not so bad. We have a little water shortage. But really not even....if California wasn't taking more than their share.

Quality of people may not matter in all professions, ie ditch digger, cashier, driver, but yes it sure as heck matters in fire & emergency services particularly the leadership positions which is what I was referring too.

Of course you can’t blame it all on the government & people have to take personal responsibility but the issue is taxes are extremely high in CA & one of the most basic and fundamental purposes of government is indeed fire protection.

So maybe less attention to things like hiring drag laureates & more attention to basic services like fire for the excessive amount of taxes.

Here’s the disconnect I think,

Very recently there has been a push in CA to clear brush and create defensible space around homes.

However as recently as 2023 there were also many cases of different types of vegetation and brush that was protected by environmental regulations or other regulations so some homeowners were either legally prevented from or actually faced large fines if they did clear this “protected brush”

So who’s right? The pussy grabbin’ facist racist insurrectionist Republicans? Or the child grooming, latte sipping, dick chopping, faggot libtard Democrats?

Well each side would have plenty of anecdotal things they could point to, but the bottom line is that the ones in charge own it.

When you’re the leaders it’s your responsibility whether you have good excuses or not.

My point was simply that if the leadership in CA had been more focused on fire prevention which is a known major threat there and less focused on social justice issues like introducing school books about two guys jerking each other off into grade school, there may have been a better outcome.
