No I am not assuming that. I have absolutely considered that. But there are several major differencs.

First, in Eliot's story there is no mention of amount of play other than over 3 years period. That could be anything from one weekend a year every year to something significantly more. At that level of play it is doubtful it is too frequenly. I would guess 3-4 trips a year, but only a guess. But we do know Mdawgs volume of play, He plays every day for 50, 60 days in a row. His current trip is well over 2 month. So Mdawgs volume of play that he has posted over over the past few years, dwarfs the volume of play in the kind of story Eliot is referencing. At Mdawgs volume of play, just getting lucky for this long, isn't a possiblibly. AND they are going to find out what is going on.

The other difference, is we now know the player in Eliot's story wasn't playing with an advantage. So there was nothing to discover. In recent weeks Mdawgs story has been all over the place, with several things said, implying he is playing with an advantage. And if he is they will figure it out! They couldn't figure out the guy in Eliot's story because he wasn't playing with an advantage....nothing to figure out.

It would only take a few hands to recognize if the clump has been poorly shuffled such that the winning order will most likely repeat. If yes, bet into it. If no, retreat. (Which also fits as he claims to not be a true system of wagering blindly based on past results. He would only raise into it if he sees the pattern).

This would satisfy his claims of being able to predict streaks but not always.

As a real world example of something along these lines, the Golden Nugget suffered a huge loss when an unshuffled deck ended up put into play and the pattern became obvious to the players. They just followed the pattern and it never failed as due to the cards order, the outcome of future hands could be easily mapped

Without an unshuffled deck, I theorize MDawg is using poorly shuffled decks and shuffle tracking and prior bet outcome logs to predict his streaks.

Anyway that's my theory.

And it only took some deduction. You guys couldn't come up with that???

Right. Here's another theory. I didn't come up with that because I have some working neurons. DarkOz, do you ever read your own stuff? Just stop Porkchop. Everyone knows this isn't about any concern as a shareholder. Maybe he is a shareholder, but that isn't what this is about. Look here is the thing about the Eliot story. What we know or have been told is the guy played $125,000 and was up 10 million. So that is what 80 bets. We don't know the timeframe, other than 3 years, meaning just how much play and how often.

So up 80 bets? That is really just varaince. I have been down over 100 max bets 5 or 6 different times in my career and that is playing with an advantage. So that happens. That is why card counters need a BR of 100 max bets or more, and it is really the "or more" these days.

So the 10 million is distortoring. Numbers I don't deal with, so you talk about that and it seems huge, until you break it down to 80 max bets, which again is on the edge of normal variance.

Now let's compare that to Mdawg. The times Mdawg has mentioned he asked pit for an average bet, it has been $1500, $1800 because he has mentioned how he feels this is low. So lets say $2000. Well he was up well over $220k a week or 10 days ago when I added it all up. Since then he has posted about a $66k losing day and mentioned a big $80k winning day and a number of 6, 8, 10k winning days. So he has got to be up over $250k from a $2000 average bet. That is 125 bets already, proportionally more than my biggest swing ever and 50% more than the guy in Eliots story. AND THAT IS JUST THIS TRIP! There are other not equally, but big winning trips, every day or almost everyday last fall, last spring and several years back, I beleive a total of 12 trips?

I mean do you see the magnitude of these claims?

This did not take place at a US casino, it was in Asia. As I recall, the player got in total about an additional 125M in cash comps (paid in non-negotiable chips). The comps were never taken away. Also, the player had his own private parking spot, his own private high limit lounge that was permanently reserved for him 24/7 with a live dealer and staff, should he show up. And to answer KJ's query, this player played several times per month over his winning streak, trips often lasting days. He must have played well over 1000 shoes. And, when you figured it all out, he was only 2.8 SD above expectation, not at all unreasonable. The chances of that result or better are 0.0026 or about 1-in-385. If a $100 player did the same, no one would have thought twice. Casinos have thousands of players each day, so they should expect dozens of 2.8SD (or better) players. His max bet, I believe, was about $125,000, but it may have been more. This same player had a similar result at a neighboring casino, though not quite as extreme (I think up about $100M). But, fortunately, both casinos let him play and even a player who is lucky enough to be 2.8 SD ahead will eventually be a loser.

So yes, this winning loser became a losing loser.

Actually, I just saw an ad for a Newell for rent on the roof of the Cosmo. Some Israeli bought it in Arizona, but then realized he couldn't drive it back to Israel, so he made a deal with the Cosmo.

It's supposed to be a real nice set-up. Two girls in bikinis wash it down every day for you so you can see the lights of the strip, and you get to keep the extra squeegees.

What makes MDawg different from, say, the half a dozen committed baccarat whack-a-doodles on Gambling Forums, is that MDawg has managed to become the flagship poster at what was alleged to be the most math-oriented general readership American gambling forum, WoV.

And he's backed up by various cheerleader posters at WoV, who don't post here for completely explicable reasons. So the Dawg has made a real commitment across multiple forums to push this tale.

He needs his own podcast. Maybe, since he's been doxed, he can find some peace writing and broadcasting his own stuff under his own name. God bless the dude. He works hard to push really banal narratives. At some point, we need escalation (already in progress) and maybe zombies or aliens to spice things up. I vote for robot hookers. Then he could still be a good dude for technically not cheating on his wife, and the photos would be more interesting.

The key word in this lament is "was". I have more of an issue with the infomercials for affiliate casinos posing as audits than I do this poster. I ran an I-net casino auditing company for 6 years, one Mike sold to me. I understand audits, these guys do not. For me, the posting of those videos is the real shame on that site.

Think about the sheer number of talented mathematicians, game developers and AP's who no longer post on WoV and you will realize that any particular gripe against an individual posting there is a waste of time. WoV is not coming back. But good for Michael, he made and continues to make $$$ from the sale -- it is our own failure for wanting something that was good in the past to still exist. Death is tough. For example, I really enjoyed bj21.com back when it was thriving 20 years ago. Now it sucks. Just think of WoV the same way.

If MDawg would have PM'd me telling me he went out of his way to find out who my wife and I were, and found out who we were, I would take it as a threat whether he verbally made a threat or not. Just saying it implies he's telling Box to watch his step or else.

Yeah, that's pretty much the way I see it. MDawg never grasped the cultural disconnect between himself and some folks, me included. He never really got the "for every action, there's an equal, opposite, and usually badass reaction." He showed up out of the blue, with no gambling cred but with nonsensical tales and figured he was golden. What could go wrong?

I'm not sure where Boz grew up, but his wife grew up down the road from my hometown. We're talking hard coal region, miners and truckers and towns falling into the earth due to massive mine fires (Centralia). We're talking home of the Molly Maguires, who were hung about eight miles away in Pottsville. If somebody does you wrong, the law is not your default option.

But I disagree with you in that I do think there is an important role for people like you and Wizard, math guys, in debunking these guys. In the absense of that you just have what looks like a lot of back and forth by different members. Guy that are respected as math and gambling math experts are the ones that make a difference. But I respect your right to not get down and dirty each time.

Ok, so is mickey correct. Is Mdawg the one that doxxed Boz and his wife? I didn't even know that. Since Boz isn't at Wov and hasn't been for a long time, that has to mean this stems from far back, pre-Mdawg days meaning Mdawg is someone else (previous member). And if that is the case, Wizard HAS to know that and that makes him even more complicit! The plot keeps thickening and getting nastier and nastier.

And I will give a example of this. In the first drama or calling out of a player making claims that couldn't be, back on Norm's blackjack forum, it was a handful of players, professional players, myself and two others leading the charge saying these claims just can't be. They defied math. It went the usual route, sinking to name calling and attacks and suspensions. Norm the math guy refused to get involve, so it just went on that way, what seemed like a handful of players challenging one guy and a couple supporters. Of course, I was banned and others left, which just left the guy to continue his claims for several years.

Finally, it was Don Schlesinger, a highly respected blackjack math expert who steped in and made the very same arguements some of us had made 2 years prior and finally ended the whole thing. Totally debunked the guy disappeared. So that is what it takes, you highly respected math guys to step in and say, "no that is not the way the math works". People like me, even as a proffessional player, carry no weight.

For the record, and BOZ knows this, and has even said as much, I had nothing to do with his being doxxed. I noticed that he was gone, and then he came back and stated that he had been doxxed and this was news to me.
I did mention that I knew who he is after Boz came on here threatening to doxx me about a month ago (and even then I mentioned that I knew who Boz is, I said nothing about his wife), which incidentally Boz's threats that "MDawg is going to get doxxed" go back a good year.

In fact, after Boz returned from his absence I got the impression that he had had some health problems, and I actually inquired into his health and commented that I was glad to hear that he was okay. In other words, I haven't ever to my recollection said anything much untoward to Boz. Why, he suddenly decided to claim that he was about to doxx me, or what he has against me based on the interactions he and I have had, is bizarre to me.

In any case, the screenshot / info of his doxxing was handed off to me by someone who didn't think that it was right that Boz was threatening to doxx me, and it was handed off well after the doxxing of Boz was disclosed online. It was sent to me without my asking for it, and I don’t believe the person sending it was even the one who had anything to do with the Boz doxxing either.

As I think back I don’t recall any particularly unkind words exchanged between Boz and me, so I am at loss to understand why he decided to undertake or claims to have undertaken some plot against me.

If Boz is so certain that he knows who I am, why not contact me directly and let’s settle whatever the alleged bad blood is between us with conversation. And if he’s not so certain that he knows who I am and is fearful of getting his ass sued by the wrong guy who he is claiming is MDawg, why not send MDawg a PM at this forum.

I had nothing to do with the doxxing of Boz, Boz knows it and even said so. I never even knew Boz had been doxxed until months after it happened.

All I was saying a couple weeks ago, was, Look Ye, I know who you are - and I only said this AFTER Boz threatened to doxx me a month or so ago.

If I were to doxx every person that said he didn't believe my casino claims, I'd have no time for anything else. In fact, Boz has always been supportive of me and stated that he gives kudos to my stock picks and that I must have worked hard in my life to get to where I am. After that not so much.
You can skip 3 thru 6.
7 Uncle Dave is pretty good as it seems that is the polished version (toned down) of "I kinda like it when a lot of people die."
8 and 9 are ok as they are real life accounts of what happened to the HBO special that they filmed on September 9 and 10th of 2001.
Ironically, they had to scrap the material because of what happened on September 11th.
His bit about Disasters is either loved or hated.
It's a bit with Irony but you know... too soon.

Okay, I read this whole thread.

What a mess.

Here are my conclusions:

First off, I don't like the idea of people being ratted out to casinos, unless they are scammers and harming innocent people. If these are just people beating the casino (or falsely claiming to do so), I feel snitching on them to the casino is bad form. As someone pointed out, it's a slippery slope. The next time someone else is a jerk on this forum, are they going to be reported, too? There should be a code in the AP community that we simply don't do this, unless innocent people are actually being hurt (which doesn't seem to be the case with MDawg).

With that said, there's no question that MDawg has been an obnoxious braggart, and has rubbed a ton of people the wrong way. There's something missing from his stories. Either they're fabcricated, grossly exaggerated, or largely incomplete. In any case, coming onto a gambling forum full of APs and acting in such a way is also bad form, and it angers people. This is especially true because the internet is so highly saturated with gambling phonies, everyone's bullshit detector is set off the minute anyone brags about any winning beyond the norm. You know what they say... extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. MDawg has never provided this evidence. The frustration with him is justified.

Regarding the letter itself, it's unlikely to do much. We understand it well, because we're all gambling forum people, and we also know Shackleford well. The average casino executive isn't familiar with forum culture (even if they browse them occasionally), and while they might know Shackleford's name, they are unlikely to be interested in Mike's validation or semi-validation of a user claiming to be winning at an alarming rate. Again, to us this seems significant. To the average employee at a casino receiving that letter, it's going to look like confusing drama.

They also likely get crackpot letters all the time about things. Your best friend Bill sleeps with your wife, you find out about it, and you're furious. So you vow to get Bill back, and you think, "Hey, I know Bill loves the casinos! What if I write to them and say Bill is cheating their games!" They get vindictive letters all the time, but short of actual proof, they're throwing these letters into the round file.

The funny thing is that MDawg could have been mildly interesting if he just stuck to "I'm a high roller, here's my trip reports" sort of posts, and just kept quiet about his results. Not all of us get to see the high end suites or other spoils of being a casino whale. That stuff is interesting, even if it's an overall loser posting it. Or maybe he's pulling a Don Johnson and somehow winning via loss rebates, as has been discussed out here already. Obviously that wouldn't explain his claims about winning "55 out of 57 times", or whatever, but it's theoretically possible that he has an edge and wants to tell someone about his success.

Do I think MDawg is winning? No. I think he probably has some money (maybe not as much as he claims), likes to gamble, likes the high roller treatment, and wants to present himself as a guy who gets all this AND wins, rather than just a chump who is getting lavish treatment because he's dumping money.

Let's say I was claiming to be banging several new chicks each week in their mid-20s, all of whom are at leats a 9/10 in looks. You probably would say I'm full of shit, and say that if this is happening, I must be paying them. If I continue to insist that I'm not paying them, nor is any kind of money or opportunity involved in any way, you'll especially call me a liar, saying that it's impossible that a gaggle of super hot young chicks would be routinely having sex with a 49-year-old guy like me, without getting anything out of it. Even if I post pictures of me hanging out with hot young chicks, that wouldn't answer much. Are any of them actually dating me? What is my appeal to all of them? Why don't they mind the age difference, if money isn't involved? Do I even know them, or did I just show up to a club and ask pretty girls to pose with me?

If I just ignored those questions and kept telling stories about the wild threesomes I'm having with these girls, you'd get annoyed really fast, and in fact some of you would develop a desire to prove me a liar.

That's basically what's happening here with MDawg, and I get it. At the same time, he's not harming anyone, and while he deserves a lot of the insults he gets out here, he doesn't deserve any "off the forum" consequences.

I will not allow any doxxing of him or anyone else, by the way. Nobody is allowed to post his name, links to web pages giving hints to his identity (unless these were public postings by him), pictures of him (unless he posted them himself, to be seen on gambling forums), workplace info, address info, relatives info, or anything else like that.

BTW, the doxxing of Boz had absolutely nothing to do with MDawg. It was by some idiot who hated certain WoV posters, and was angry that some of them were coming over here once banned at WoV. I told him clearly that I don't care what happens at WoV, and I will not ban users here for actions over there. Anyway, that was awhile ago, and I took care of the matter. It was unrelated to MDawg.

Good post dan Druff. I want to comment on 2 specific parts. I couldn't agree more about the high roller stuff. As a lower limit player and AP, it is a glimpse into a world or part of that world I don't get to see and experience. I enjoyed that, until he polluted it with ALL the winning that can't be. If he had just left it that he is a high roller that wins some loses some (loses more than wins), but gets comped accordingly, and enjoys that aspect, I would have been a big fan. But he is up to like 106 winning sessions out of 108 over last two trips and the only way that can happen is a steep progression and a steep progression is going to result in an occasional loss the wipes away ALL those wins. So he is either leaving that part out or just making the whole thing up.

As per Boz, I probably shouldn't comment further because I obviously don't know all the details. I know Boz and his wife got doxxed and he is/was pissed about it and rightfully so. So when he targeted that anger towards Mdawg claiming Mdawg had something to do with it, I assume he knows that. Otherwise why would Boz be so mad at Mdawg. They weren't on WoV together were they? Boz has been gone for a while. And minor interaction here. So I don't know what is going on. I still feel like for Boz to respond as he did, there must be more to the story. Maybe more than Dan Druff knows? Keep in mind MaryDawg almost assuredly posted as someone else before this handle, so maybe it dates back to that.

Doxxing is generally wrong. But damn, this MaryDawg really pushes people. That is what ends up happening.

It takes a really special thread for the most reasonable sounding poster on the thread to be coachbelly. But congrats, as this one managed to do it. Wow.

My take on this early on was that MDawg had regained the gambling bug with either a promotion or an inheritance or stepping up in marriage/family class, and he was looking for some credence to convince friends and family that his eons of time in Las Vegas were profitable. So he generated a kind of "I'm telling the truth" gambling log to verify that things were copacetic.

I told him privately and publicly that I thought that's what he was trying to do, and I was cool with it, but he was getting a little out there in his claims. Well, as the weeks and months passed, he went completely off the rails with the story-telling. Not sure why, but it may likely be the old problem that once some people get rolling with the high level gambling, they can't disengage. So the time involved gets worse, the losses get worse, and the stories need to amp up the winning to justify the increased casino time. The comps, however, would get better, of course.

I saw it as a kind of proof log he started online that family and friends could access if they doubted his stories.

Unfortunately, he went right from Walter Cronkite to Walter Mitty in the span of a couple months.

They have no idea how fluid and flexible Las Vegas can be. Things are not ever set in stone, even if law. For something called "policies," pretty much anything goes depending on the situation.

The person AndrewG spoke with went on to say that, of course, your mileage may vary depending on who you are. LOL. That means it's a "policy," not a law, not a regulation, and not even a hard-and-fast policy. So depending on who you are, what terms you are on with the casino, and what you've done for them lately, your results may vary.

Coach also fails to mention that whatever casino spoke with AndrewG may or may not be one of the casinos in question, which means the "policy" may not even be applicable. See, since it's not a law or a regulation, what you have is a preferred policy that will vary by casino. Hell, it can vary by who's working what shift.

This reminds me of a survey I did regarding limits and rules and regs for sports betting about 15 years ago in Las Vegas. I actually handed out survey forms and conducted interviews. Guess how that turned out? The "policies" varied by casino, even by casino under the same aegis, and "policies" in the same casino sometimes varied by what level of card holder you were (if you were tracked). So how much you could bet was determined, in part, by your gambling profile. I did an article about it that was published in Playbook, which was then a nationally distributed newsstand publication. "Policies" vary by who you are.
