The antipathy between many AP's and teliot / the casinos should be put into context.
First and foremost: it's all just one big game.
Think of it like football: you've got offense (AP's) and defense (teliot / casinos): they study one another, they have a rivalry, but rarely is there or should there be hatred.

Last week I alluded to the fact that the daily visits by members, has taken a sudden jump in the past couple weeks, reversing a declining trend of several years. Up until a few weeks ago, the daily member visits on weekdays was in the neighborhood of 150 (down 50% from just a couple years ago). On weekends, even lower, 140-ish daily visits from members, occasionally in the 130's on a Saturday. Lower weekend visits isn't unexpected.
So as I said just after the first of the year, these numbers seemed to "pop" with weekday daily visits hitting 180's most days (currently 185 at 10pm on a Wednesday) and weekends in the 160's. Finding it strange that this "pop' occurred and has remained for several weeks, bucking a several year declining trend, I just clicked on some of the names, focusing on the handles anyone who reads the forum is not familiar with, meaning handles that don't post much.
Interestingly there are about 20 new handles, most created the second week of January. And they log in every day but have no, or very few posts. :confused: Then there is a second group of 15 names/handles, that were created in 2009 and 2010, (which was like the very beginning of the site) and haven't participated in years, some for 9-10 years. Now all of the sudden they are logging in every day. :confused:
Let's see....how do I want to put this? Ok, I'll just say it. It appears somebody is trying to manipulate the numbers and make it look like more members are visiting all of the sudden. :rolleyes:
And IF this is the case, I am guessing that second group that I mentioned, the handles that joined in 2009/2010 but have now been dormant for years until 2 weeks ago, are all sock puppets (well I think both groups are sock puppets), but the second group sock puppets that were created at the origin of the site to get visitors and discussions going. This is actually a casino trick as they will sometimes have a "shill" sit down at an empty table, knowing that will draw others players.
Anyway, just an interesting observation. :cool:
Interesting KJ. One thing I liked was the Blackjack Hand calculator I recently discovered. I don't read much on that forum. The format doesn't work for me. For instance, in your post above, I easily could pick and choose the paragraphs and/or sentences I wanted to read. Plus I can see comments from above and below of other posters. WoV and some other forums, you read the first few lines and then decide if you want to click to read more. I rarely click. Thus, don't visit.
That whole sock puppet thing is an interesting concept. Like you said, they make very profound statements and then disappear for years and then come back. Try putting your hand over the handle and reading. The dots are fairly easy to connect. Flash/T3 are the worst or best IMO.
FWIW. There is a current thread at BJTF called Interesting EV Discussion. Some newbie is wreaking havoc. Once a person is banned it's very difficult to go back and read old posts. But go down to be bottom of the thread and you can click on a thread started by you back in 2014 Discussion Battle.
I think you'll see the similarities of socks. That thread in 2014 actually had some useful info.

Then I moved to Vegas and the exact same scenario has played out with the Local type casinos. Tighten rules, lower pay-tables, cut offers, squeeze the customer base (local players). And as the base shrinks , you squeeze that smaller customer base even more.
Now the strip is a different beast. They can get away with this some, because they believe they have an unlimited customer base, every day, plane loads of new people show up. But the locals casinos, just like Atlantic City have/had a finite base. You can only squeeze so long until there is nothing left to squeeze.
I always though if some local type casino, that caters to the locals, were to really embrace the "Zender philosophy", their numbers would go through the roof and everyone else would follow suit. Unfortunately, I am still waiting. :(

No casino is surviving on my 25-cent video poker play or my $5 craps play. Red Rock does have $5 craps in the early morning hours.
By the way, this past Monday morning I had a $75 free table bet. I went to Red Rock at about 5am (I prefer an empty table) and put my $75 voucher on the passline and put out a $5 bill for any craps.
I threw a 3. I lost the $75 voucher but was paid $40 for the any craps bet. I walked to the cage, cashed and left.

It was a very common practice in the military for people to borrow 20 for 40 and other amounts. I was known for always being willing to lend. 60 for 80 was a very common thing and people would come to me first. I would be a fool not to do it. I didn't need a leg breaker. I always like Billryan, who posted as Shadroch back on the first forum I was on, the original Blackjackinfo. At that time, I believe he lived in NYC or somewhere in New York, operated a business (I think a bar) and did a bit of traveling playing low limit blackjack. He was pretty knowledgeable and I learned a lot from him. I didn't know about his politics and didn't want to. I didn't know too much about his personal life. He does occasionally mention that he was in the service because he likes to tell stories and that is a part of some.
In short I enjoyed his participation. But you start leaning someone's politics and all that changes. Someone you like, learned from and enjoyed their participation is now your mortal enemy. I don't get that. :confused: And I do gotta say, Billryan has changed quite a bit from his blackjackinfo days. He was very likeable back them. Now he seems more cranky, opinionated and looking to "get into trouble". I think his very first post at WoV, or his first post back after a many year hiatus was in a thread entitled KewlJ in which he went off on me (to which I couldn't respond), so I am not the biggest of billryan fans.
I guess I just don't get the political thing and hating people for political views on a supposed gambling forum. :confused:

I'm shocked but not surprised that Even Bob has been suspended for 7 days. Even Bob was going on a weird belligerent Bender this last couple of days. I got suspended for twice as long for something WAY more innocent than what EB was doing the last couple of days. I mentioned Alimony twice in a thread that was about a guy trying to hide his Jackpot. The thing is, OTHER people brought up the Alimony thing first and I was replying to them. How I was the only one suspended for the Alimony thing despite not being the one who brought it up in the first place was so unfair. Two week suspension for something OTHER people brought up first and I was replying to them. I'm still bitter about that suspension.
EB jumped in the Nightmare thread and was telling darkoz (not one of my favorite people) that he couldn't write. He gave DO a clinic on Ernest Hemingway and what a great sentence writer he was, structure, grammar, everything. Hemingway was definitely known for that. However, EB never gave an example of a bad sentence by DO. And this is the real clincher. Louis L'Amour was an editor's nightmare. Bad spelling, grammar, punctuation. But he sold about 50 times more books than Hemingway. One of the best story tellers of all time. I guess EB never heard of an editor.

My income went up because I was working more instead of spending so much time drinking....and I wasn't blowing money in the bars anymore. So I'm in a very good position these days. There's one thing about drinking that I absolutely don't miss and that's the hangovers.

It is pretty clear that the WoV Forum is just a Front.
IMO the real aspect of WoV is the Private Message System.
Most members are going to be on the outside looking in but they use the Forum for recruiting purposes.
They filter the members from the threads to the backdoor via PMs.
It didn't take too long for me to notice that.
I am not totally against it but it just feels funny.
My experience is a good fit but I have never been a Team Player so it is a major conflict.
The usual PM from most of the main players is always the same.
I was surprised how the greeting is identical from multiple members.
It goes something like this:

I have always enjoyed your body of posts.
After this it can vary a bit.
Usually you are invited to a regular poker game or some other meet and greet.
Wizard of Nothing had a different approach.
He basically said Hello and gave you his phone number to call him asap.
I was surprised how well it worked but scams usually work pretty well in general.
One interesting note is how respectful they are about BBB and Wizard on the Forum.
However in person or in PM things tend to be completely different.
It is also used as a Front to make money though legal means as well.
I found it fun or entertaining but it is pretty clear that it loses its flavor after time passes.
The same goes for this Forum as well.
The truth is that we really do not have much more to discuss that hasn't been posted.
So now both Forums are just a place where you can wage your own personal battles.
Those battles can range from Gaming to Politics to the all favorite:

I find it funny how some members bashed BBB and Mission146 for questionable actions.
6 months later they are praising them as Moderators and Individuals.
Tough to get a bead on how people really feel about each other.
I expect that from the gambling community though.
