There's some things you don't understand. I've described some plays which you called two-bit. Sure, one play might be worth just $40. But what if you are doing 15 plays a day on that game? That's $600 a day. That's what you don't get. It's not just one play. And all those plays add up.

Now, I know what you will come with. "600 a day! That's 220K a year. You're full of shit!" As that is a typical response from you. But how many people do you know that work 365 days a year? I certainly don't work anywhere near that much. I do pretty good on the days that I work. The average is actually closer to 500 a day. I made 86.8K off machines last year. The actual true figure. That's what all my "two-bit" plays added up to last year. I'll do just as good or better this year. This may not reach the standard you or anyone else has for me but it's plenty for me. If I'm not complaining then you shouldn't. If I wanted more money I would work more days.

PS: The win didn't come out of just one casino, or a dozen casinos. The number is actually in the hundreds. Divide my win out by that. So how badly am I hurting any one casino? I'm not.

I assume you don't have any kids (that you know of(-;). You seem to be frugal, no ? (no 1.5 mill RV's and hellcats for you) If I may ask, what are your monthly bills?

I would have to assume you get to save a large bulk of that money each year.

I would also assume you get to go(and buy) where you want, when you want, how you want, anytime you want(within reason). I have always said that is one of the things I enjoy about doing this(of course, I have partners so there is some scheduling to contend with but it also has nice benefits as well)

Just as a way of comparison, there are roughly 4 million people employed by the American fast food industry at an average salary of 24K or thereabouts. My numbers may be dated, but off the top of my head there are about 1,300,000 in the Army (my wife was an army sub-contractor, which doesn't count) and about 300,000 in the Navy. The highest paying job for non-lifers is intelligence officer, which pays about 35K. I think the full Army pay range is 20-something to about 110K. The average teacher salary is roughly 55K in the United States. The average starting teacher's salary ranges from 30K in Montana to about 50K in D.C. There are roughly as many teachers as fast food workers, 4 million or thereabouts.

The median farmer salary is about 65K.

So I think mickey does okay. One thing about this country, the more important (in my mind) jobs certainly don't pay the best. The people who grow food, serve food, teach children, and defend the country all make less than mickey.

It's an interesting thing, this capitalism gig, eh, blackhole?

I applaud you for this post and sharing your experiences including what you make, both on days you play and annually, mickeycrimm. It is a very realistic view into what machine AP is, realistic expectations, including the money end. This is something I too have always tried to do and receive a lot of criticism for. But I think it is very important to show just what kind of money we are talking about....realistically....so again kudos to you mickey.

In the blackjack world, just about the time I was getting started, was the time the MIT team stories hit. First 2 different books and then the movie '21', all painting a very unrealistic picture of card counting and the kind of money that can be made and all attracting new, young players with those very unrealistic expectations, especially financial. THAT is when I decided to share my experiences, including financial details to show what really is reasonable expectations, which for a solo type, grinder type blackjack player is upper 5 figures.

And while our AP play is as different as can be, me a blackjack card counter and you a machine player expert, I have always seem remarkable similarities. The grinder aspect to our play, what I refer to as 'shearing' vs the 'slaughter', or slash and burn type player. And I am not surprised the range of reasonable financial return is very similar.

I would like to ask you this though. How many days a year to you play? Based on you stating your daily average is close to $500 and your win last year roughly 87k, I am looking at 175 days a year? Roughly 50% of days, leaving plenty of time for a mickeycrimm to enjoy life, whatever that may entail. Good for you. :) While my playing schedule consumes more days as I play roughly 300 days, most of my days are 4-6 hours, some very short at 2-3 hours (weekend), while I suspect on the days you do play, you play much longer shifts (especially on the road).

While like I said, while what we do has us as far away from each other as can be in the "AP club", and I don't even understand most of what you do, and have all but given up even hoping to, I so greatly appreciate reading of your experiences, including results. Thank you again, for doing so, despite all the bullshit you go through in order to share your experiences.

Rent is cheap in Montana. When I quit drinking I wanted to move away from the bar. I lived next door and payed $600 a month. A friend of mine was looking for a room mate. I moved in with him. My share of the rent is $250. That's it, electricity is included. He's a computer repair man so I get free computer services. When I'm on the road he texts me pics of my casino mail so I can go over it and get the codes.

I work Choice Privileges Hotels. Their promotions are good. Right now it's "buy two nights get one night free." It actually works out to buy two nights get 1.2 nights free. On the pay nights I use Econo and Roadway the cheapest in their chain. Using points I stay at Quality Inns and Comfort Inns maybe sometimes Sleep Inn and Mainstay Suites. So about $120 gets me 3.2 nights. Plus I mix in comped nights in some of the casinos. So my hotel bill averages to about 1K per month.

I spend just as much money on meals at home as I do on the road so I don't consider that to be an extra expense.

I don't blow money on extravagant cars. I buy 10 year old cars in the 5 to 6K price range. Pay cash. Insurance runs about $700 a year.

Fuel bill is a couple hundred a month.

I give money to my poor sisters and their broke ass husbands. I have 4 sisters and one brother. They're all going to get a nice chunk of change when I kick the bucket. The reason why is I don't spend even 35% of what I make in a year. That is, if they can outlive me. It's an ego thing with me. I'm the oldest. I'm supposed to take care of them.

Dear Wizard,
I was surprised to find a few years back at the MGM Grand Vegas(it may still be there) a roulette wheel with single zero and the traditional surrender rule found in Atlantic City for all even money bets.
Strangely, the double zero wheels didn't have the surrender rule.
Just wondering how unique this is and what the house edge is on this?

Yes, Dark Oz should be similar to Zardoz as that is relevant to the Wizard of Oz.
Dark Oz refers to a comic book sequel to the Wizard of Oz which I am involved with.

Okay, so I had gotten comped at one casino, both hotel room and free buffet.
So I went and ended up losing my entire paycheck at Roulette and Craps.
So, with time to kill (I still had the room for the night as I lost my money pretty quickly), I decided to take advantage of the free buffet.
So, since I had lost about $800 bucks, I tried to make it up in food.
I started calculating the cost of each plate and downing it to get back my $800.
I gorged for about 4 hours - by my calculations I got back at least $150 in edibles.
Oh my Lord, I was sick for the next thirty six hours.
When I got home, my relatives had to administer to me. Overeating hangover!
I'll never do that again(the gorging. Wish I could not do the losing money part but that I seem to repeat.)

I'm not sure pending court cases mean anything. As we have seen some casinos try to go after people for stuff even though it isn't illegal. Then again, I don't know what jurisdiction he was in.

Great post tableplay. And this is why I found all those posts attacking my $8800 day loss and $29k week loss so bizarre. If a player, say blackjack, not counting or otherwise playing with an advantage, but playing the typical -EV blackjack game, were to register an $8800 win, does the casino employ some sort of loss or stop limit and shut down for the rest of the day? Of course not. The casino knows that 'volume' which is another way to say "longterm" is on it's side and it will win that money plus many times more back.

Well if an AP is playing with the advantage, no matter what method, it is the same exact principal. Short-term (variance) will occur, but if properly bankrolled, just like the casino, a player doesn't worry about it knowing that if he keeps playing he will win that back many times over.

And this works this way with all advantage plays. The machine players like mickey might not have to deal with quite so much losses, but maybe a play only returns a fraction of expectation. So they don't have a loss like us blackjack players for that day, but a much smaller win than expected. But they know that if they keep piling up these plays, results will catch up to expectation. It mathematically has to. Anyone thinking it won't or thinking you can continually repeat some short-term result that goes against the math, is simply trying to do the impossible. Their chances are about the same as trying to stop aging.

It is such a simple concept that it is almost impossible to believe that people like Alan, and more recently, the banned member (claiming to be a professional BJ player) don't understand this. Which really leaves only one other possibility, these people do understand this, but their purpose is to troll.

It is really this simple: AP's win by finding a way to turn the odds from slightly in the house favor to slightly in our favor and then employing the very same volume principal that the casinos do.

I assume you don't have any kids (that you know of(-;). You seem to be frugal, no ? (no 1.5 mill RV's and hellcats for you) If I may ask, what are your monthly bills?

I would have to assume you get to save a large bulk of that money each year.

I would also assume you get to go(and buy) where you want, when you want, how you want, anytime you want(within reason). I have always said that is one of the things I enjoy about doing this(of course, I have partners so there is some scheduling to contend with but it also has nice benefits as well)

Rent is cheap in Montana. When I quit drinking I wanted to move away from the bar. I lived next door and payed $600 a month. A friend of mine was looking for a room mate. I moved in with him. My share of the rent is $250. That's it, electricity is included. He's a computer repair man so I get free computer services. When I'm on the road he texts me pics of my casino mail so I can go over it and get the codes.

I work Choice Privileges Hotels. Their promotions are good. Right now it's "buy two nights get one night free." It actually works out to buy two nights get 1.2 nights free. On the pay nights I use Econo and Roadway the cheapest in their chain. Using points I stay at Quality Inns and Comfort Inns maybe sometimes Sleep Inn and Mainstay Suites. So about $120 gets me 3.2 nights. Plus I mix in comped nights in some of the casinos. So my hotel bill averages to about 1K per month.

I spend just as much money on meals at home as I do on the road so I don't consider that to be an extra expense.

I don't blow money on extravagant cars. I buy 10 year old cars in the 5 to 6K price range. Pay cash. Insurance runs about $700 a year.

Fuel bill is a couple hundred a month.

I give money to my poor sisters and their broke ass husbands. I have 4 sisters and one brother. They're all going to get a nice chunk of change when I kick the bucket. The reason why is I don't spend even 35% of what I make in a year. That is, if they can outlive me. It's an ego thing with me. I'm the oldest. I'm supposed to take care of them.

Well, I'm the youngest and I am always loaning money to my brother and I have never been paid back(he owes me thousands). I have loaned to my sister a few times in the past and never asked for it back. She is doing well now so I don't think I will have to loan her money ever again. I send my Mom money sometimes if she needs it for a new car, or wants to buy something she cant really afford right then, like a new computer. I try to help out my niece but she is kinda difficult to deal with at times, especially when you try to give her any advice. I keep offering to pay for some classes for her but she doesn't ever seem to set it up and do the research needed, so I did do the research and set it up as far as I could go, but she has lots of excuses and never seems to take the plunge. She has No drivers licence. She wanted me to teach her how to drive I said ok, but she flaked too many times and I don't want to deal with that BS. I told her I would pay for a real teacher but again she didnt set it up.

Thanks KewlJ. As far as I'm concerned, the people who claim they don't understand this are Trolls and actually do understand it. In some cases they lack the patience,analytical skills and/or discipline required (and so have failed at it). In other cases they are extremely wealthy,bored and evil so they just like to harass you,Mickey, Monet and other APs who post very valuable information. There are probably other reasons too.

I think that was before he started AP stuff and had his sights set on being a writer. One might hope that adding your real name to whatever you write might help somehow. I don't know how long he claims he has been an AP for. I have noticed AP's changing that number from time to time and not because time has went by and its been that much longer. I can't really fault him if he added his real name before he went AP. There are many other things you can rag on him about.

FWIW...I've been to several WoV events. When we order ala carte, they put it on one big check. Somehow I'm usually the one collecting/verifying. More often than not, (like 3x out of the last 5) the check comes up seriously short. And I've (voluntarily, I admit) been among those who make up the difference.

So, there would be a certain advantage to a prix fixe menu (like this), where everyone pays the same in advance, walking into the party. Whether it's this place or another, I'm just saying, not pointing fingers, but that's been my experience.

You obviously are not familiar with a facetious remark. By the way, how many times do we have to hear the story about your $1200 dinner with BBB?

I only glance at WOV occasionally but it seems to be a random group of people that happen to post on the same forum. Not some tight knit group.
Regardless of what anyone's comped anyone at any fine downtown LV establishment, you're just asking for trouble organizing some event for a group like that with one check for everyone.
Even forums where everyone pretty much knows each other and there's been get togethers for years with the majority being a core group of long term friends, they still don't do that. It's either pay in advance $x for some prix fixe meal, or something provided for all that certain players will cover from comps or cash then everything else is order and pay on your own.
There's enough trouble with shared checks sometimes even among people you know.

Unfortunately, Trump himself has driven away a large part of his original base from the primaries, which wasn't made up of traditional conservatives, but from people who were tired of traditional conservatism just as much as they were of liberalism.

And the fact is, President Trump has failed on being anything Campaign Trump was, that would have been different from any bog standard Jeb Bush style republican. About the only "successes" of the Trump administration are tax cuts and 2 fairly decent supreme court justices.

No wall.

No locking up of Hillary. In fact he backed off of that before the inauguration.

During the election "I love Wikileaks" - now? Pushing for the arrest of Assange.

In a thread at WoV, an (obviously new) player started a thread entitled "strategy when dealt an ace", where he asks about doubling his first card ace. It seems likely this player is confused as he appears to be very green. Perhaps he is thinking doubling an ace-10, rather than take the 3:2 payoff, which isn't a good idea.

BUT in recent years here in Vegas there was a side bet based on only the player first card of an ace. Upon being dealt a first card ace, the dealer stopped dealing and the player had the option to place a side bet that he would receive a blackjack at a payoff of 2-1 for the side bet. This made the side bet essentially the same as taking insurance, and profitable at the same count +3 for hi-lo.

But here is the difference. Unlike insurance where a player is limited to 1/2 his original bet, there was no such limitation on the side bet. As a matter of fact, you could bet even more on the side bet that your regular blackjack bet, up to $100 max. This was huge. Made for a huge advantage. So much so that you could flat bet your main blackjack at say $25 and just take the side bet for $100 max when the count was right and you were at a nice advantage without even spreading. :)

In Vegas there were 3 casinos that had this Wild Aces side bet in this manner, Green Valley Ranch, LVH (now Westgate) and Golden Nugget. It didn't take long for this game to attract AP's. I played exclusively at these 3 casinos for several months. The funniest one was Westgate, where they allowed players to not only make this side bet on their own first card ace, but on other players first card ace. So when the count was right and anyone drew a first card ace, there was money flying from several different players into the side bet circle. It got confusing at times. :rolleyes: It also didn't last long after that. First Westgate went back to only allowing the side bet on your own hand and then this side bet disappeared from all 3 locations. ;)

So, I have been suspended from WOV for two weeks for my innocent answer to a Newbie who had a Progressive Jackpot worth $15,000 question. He claimed that the PJ was less than $400 away. I said you would have to play $4,000-8,000 coin in to get to that $15,000 PJ. I was crucified for my answer and then suspended for two weeks. I definitely did not see this two week suspension coming and am really shocked over it. I try to help someone and I got suspended over it. At least the Newbie thanked me for trying to help him. I also got suspended after trying to help out a Newbie asking for Craps advice. I told her the odds that give you the MOST money(30 to 1) was the way to go and I got crucified and then suspended for that! She didn't even thank me for trying to help her! At least I got thanked by the PJ advice!

I spend just as much money on meals at home as I do on the road so I don't consider that to be an extra expense.

I don't blow money on extravagant cars. I buy 10 year old cars in the 5 to 6K price range. Pay cash. Insurance runs about $700 a year.

Fuel bill is a couple hundred a month.

I give money to my poor sisters and their broke ass husbands. I have 4 sisters and one brother. They're all going to get a nice chunk of change when I kick the bucket. There were so many things contributing to my snapping yesterday. There was BBB giving me a two week ban two years ago for supposedly hijacking a thread about a guy trying to hide his Jackpot. One poster said,"He could have been trying to hide his Jackpot because he could have Alimony payments. I don't even know what Alimony is, but it sounds awful." I responded,"Alimony is what you pay an ex spouse after divorce. I've always hated the idea of Alimony. Why should I have to financially support another adult I am no longer legally bonded to? Especially if the reason for the divorce is because my ex spouse cheated on me? So, I have to PAY someone who cheated on me and their cheating is the reason we are no longer married? Hell no." Someone else after the first poster brought up Alimony, mentioned Alimony. I said,"Alimony sucks! It should be outlawed!" BBB said,"You have hijacked this thread that is about a guy trying to hide his Jackpot, with two posts about Alimony. You have been suspended for two weeks for hijacking." I was shocked and am still pissed off about it to this very second. How did I get the two week suspension when I was responding to other people who brought it up first? The other people who brought it up first weren't even suspended WITH me for bringing up Alimony first and second! Even other posters mentioned that was an unfair suspension seeing how I was just merely responding to people who brought it up first and second. But the suspension stuck for the whole two weeks.

I didn't like her condescending , rude, insulting, harassing ways towards me and how she CONSTANTLY brought up a ONE TIME mistake that I had quickly regretted and apologized for multiple times. Posters were like,"She pulled that stupid stunt TWO years ago and no longer is doing that. She apologized for it the same day she did it and has continued to apologize for it Why is BBB still bringing up that one time stupid stunt from two years ago when everyone else forgave and forgot?"

Here is something else that didn't sit right with me. I have my own website and posters were pretending to be BBB and writing very nasty things while impersonating her. BBB told me to delete those nasty things said by her impersonators. I deleted every one of them despite not being obligated to do so on my very own website. I did exactly what she asked me to do and she never acknowledged what I did and never thanked me for doing exactly what she told me to do.

She accused me of hijacking a thread called Harassment despite the OP putting my NAME in it. Right then and there I wanted to cuss her out, but I just very snarkily said,"Newsflash, I'm not hijacking! My name is in the OP! How am I hijacking a thread that had me in the OP! Posters admitted I actually had a valid point. I soon admitted in PM that I was three seconds away from cussing BBB out but the advice was not too. I was talked out of it. But what led to me finally snapping was her once again telling me that I was hijacking when someone mentioned that Poker Grinder might come to visit Sunny South Florida(After PG and I actually agreed on something )

I made a quip about how South Florida is a lot warmer than The Great White North(Canada) and that South Florida was number 6 out of 10 Hottest USA States. BBB accused me of hijacking. I was responding to a post that was directed right at me, so that's when all my politeness went right out the window and I went into Fed Up Attack Mode and told BBB off and cussed her out. That was the last straw for me and I was done taking BBB's shit towards me.

I wouldn't consider BBB middle aged and if she is she is on the backside of it.
For her size it is impressive that she goes all over the country to pick up free play and what not.

I was drunk one night and told a story I shouldn't have. In 1973 I was a participant in what would be considered a race riot at Fort Riley, Kansas. It was a situation where a small minority of white soldiers were repeatedly terrorized by the overwhelmingly black majority of soldiers and the brass wouldn't do anything about it. We were on our own. I referred to the terrorizers as "black bastards" in the post and got the nuke for it.
