As science ascends the need of society for religion descends: that's just the way it is.
There is no PROOF that god exists: none.
Without objective proof that a concept is viable why would people devote so much time, energy, and money to religion?
Are they all that bereft of hope?

Not sure how we truly exist, either. Repeated big bangs would erase all record of our individual existence with each and every new cycle. The one constant then would be the big bang, itself. But, again, what's behind that?
As for all the evolution stuff. The body can do anything the mind can do. It will evolve in the same crazy spits and spurts, or shape itself over the ages, and then some. Some ideas are seized upon, and others shaped.
