Kewlj I have nothing against APs but my concern is that I want the public protected against unverified claims of APs. I've known a couple self-proclaimed APs. One I met at Rincon who has s yearly income of probably not more than $15,000 a year and in his mid-50s he lives with his mother. Another AP I know in the poker world plays low level tournaments at The Bicycle casino near downtown LA and sleeps in his car but will stay in a nearby budget hotel for a night if he cashes in one of the tournaments.
By the way the poker player sells shares of any wins to get the money to enter tournaments that cost about $80 to enter.
Alan, it's one thing to be helpful. If someone had a strategy question about a certain play, I'd be more than happy to answer. Don't expect me, or anyone else for that matter, to give away everything. I wouldn't expect you to reveal a juicy play if you found it. Some things you just have to go find for yourself.
I can appreciate this concern of "protecting the public". But ya know, it is a message board site, not a court of law. The members of the site, have some responsibility to figure out who is legitimate and who might be blowing smoke up their ass. And like I always say, it usually isn't that hard to figure out "who knows what they are talking about and who is just talking".
I am sure you don't know this Alan, but I am banned at one of the top blackjack site, and also at WoV, because of the exact scenario you laid out. I (and two other known professional players) challenged the credibility of a member that was blowing smoke up people asses. Complete bullshit claims as to not only his success, but the methods he was using. Claiming outrageous things like this new method of card counting that he invented had 5 times the improvement in win over traditional card counting, which is mathematically impossible. You can't achieve that even with computer play.
The reason, that I couldn't follow my own advice that members of the forum have a responsibility to figure out "who knows what they are talking about and who is just talking", is because this guy was throwing all kinds of numbers and equations, and formulas, most irrelevant and not backing up what he was saying, but enough to "muddy the waters", so as to convince other members, especially newer players, of his nonsense.
So, I and these two other know professional players stepped up and challenged this fraud, and all hell broke loose. I was eventually banned from that blackjack site and when it spilled over to WoV, the owner of that BJ site, convinced Shackleford to ban me at WoV as well. So I do know a little something about calling out fraudulent and this is key...."misleading claims". But you have to balance that with people's right to privacy and members of a site's responsibilty to figure some of this out on their own.
I have to agree with JB here. I have made the mistake of giving a horse to one or two friends at the track (only because I know they are only betting five to ten dollars) and then have 30 people thank me after the race. Now I will only pull a friend aside about 30 seconds before post and give him the horse so it can't get spread around.
I am not going to keep going round and round with this, coach belly. If you don't think I, or Mickey, or RS or some of the other AP's are real, that is your right. Believe what you like. Believe the earth is flat. Believe the moon landing occurred in a studio in California. That is completely within your right.
But if you think I or any other AP has to prove anything to you, you are living in some sort of twilight zone. Why would any AP do that? What benefit is there to us to do so? Because I can think of a number of reasons not to.
The bottom line is that I am not here selling a book or selling a system. If I was selling something, yeah maybe you have a right to demand proof of claims.
But I am simply sharing some of my experiences as an AP, as others did for me, not long ago. If you want to doubt....then doubt. It's not going to effect me, my income or my life because there are doubters. I can assure you that I and every other AP has dealt with doubters since day one. Not only on message boards, but family and friends.
AP's are famous for spewing total nonsense about their gambling, then come on and claim they are just "sharing" their "experiences" while having no proof of any of it. And if you don't believe them you have the right to also believe the world is flat.Yet if you share any of YOUR successful gambling experiences that doesn't fit into the AP state-of-mind narrative or follow their anonymous/secretive agenda, then you're lying.
Is it any wonder why Gaming Today had it's most successful years when I exposed these phonies on a weekly basis for nearly 8 years.
When I founded the forum I wanted free speech and truth. My original web visitors were my TV viewers from decades on the news. That's why I challenged claims.
Alas those days and my TV news audience is gone. Dan sets the rules now because the forum is now his.
I just thought of a great promotion for a casino client: I'm going to have them print up buttons that say "I'm an Advantage Player at ____ Casino."
This is (and will remain) a "mostly free speech" forum. I mostly let it run itself.
I don't want to see threats, racist/anti-Semitic/homophobic attacks, or anything way over the line.
However, I choose not to get involved in personal disputes/arguments between users here, for the most part.
LOL -- not sure where Rob's "noodle-slurping Chinese" falls on the spectrum, but I'm hoping he's equally creative when dealing with the local Jewish contingent.
Ahhh....so you are familiar with "the voodoo forum". ;) Well, I am not going to comment on players who aren't members here (that I am aware of)....although I do have some strong opinions. :p
But, I will comment on Singer. In my short time here, it is very apparent that he can't restrict his comments, discussions and arguments to the topic being discussed. He has some sort of need to immediately go low and personal with his attacks and comments. I just don't bother with that type of person. I don't need that kind of negativity.
No--I am not an AP. But horse racing, sports, or similar games do not have the same house edge as other forms of gambling (although one could say the high take out for horses is a house edge). In any event, it is only in rare occasions where my friends are getting killed and I love a horse at some degree of value that I will make the gesture anymore. I have educated them over the years just in the race by race analysis and discussion that we have throughout the day. That alone has improved their game.
I'm protecting the world against Alan Mendelson's faulty gambling math. LOL! Alan, how about protecting the world against guys like John Patrick who sell craps books to the masses. I guarantee you he has sold 100 times more books than Bob Dancer. The only thing you will learn from Patrick is how to lose at a slower pace....but you are still going to lose.
Do you think your system of giving the edge to the casino is the best way for the public to go?
