New rules. Or... A reminder about the current rules.

I think it's time to remind everyone about the rules, and common courtesy whether it's in the rules or not.

Let's stop the personal insults.

For too many months I was lenient about allowing "insults" because I am thick skinned and I can take 'em. Others aren't as thick skinned as I am. I'm thick skinned because I have gone through a lot in my life.

Today, however, I got an email from a long time forum member who said to me that the forum has dropped to new lows. Meanwhile I know that there are many, many readers who come here who don't participate because of the hostile atmosphere.

I believe in the right of free speech and I am very liberal about it -- but it's time to ask you (the offenders) to tone it down.

I don't want to be as restrictive as some other sites are, but if I have to, I will.

I will even close down the forum. I don't need the forum -- and it certainly doesn't make me any money. As you can see, the most visitors we ever had on the forum at one time was about 400 and I am sure many of those were bots or spammers. My main website gets as many as 9,000 visitors a day. So, this forum is not my concern.

Frankly, I'm in the TV business and not the website business and no one is going to offer me $2.3-million for this. (Wink)

Be fair. Be square. Cut out the insults. Or, go away. And if you don't go away, I will ban you.

And if you don't like the rules, start your own forum and your own website. I'll even let you promote it here. Just don't leave your garbage here.

Please don't ban Rob Singer, this is the only forum I know of to read Rob Singer.

No matter whether you think his strategies are correct or incorrect,
whether you agree or disagree with his philosphies,
the guy is pretty damn entertaining and interesting to read.

Banning isn't necessary, you can always just delete the insulting posts.
Once he sees his work removed, that may frustrate him enough to stop posting outright insults.

Same with mickey crimm, he obviously can't help himself with the insults...

To be honest, I am surprised at the amount of trolling/insults here.

While a lot of that goes on at my own forum, it's a different atmosphere over there, and pretty much a place where you can post things that you can't get away with on other poker forums.

This place, while not initially set up as a gambling-related forum, has mostly evolved into a VP/Caesars discussion forum, and I think there's a lot of good information here. It's also not a young group (I'm 42, and definitely well below the average age here), so I don't see why this place has to devolve into what appears to be a bunch of children insulting one another.

I think if people can disagree respectfully rather than turning the forum into an excuse to personally bash people, it will be a much more useful and inviting environment. I'm sure there's plenty of lurkers here who are afraid to post, believing they will get ridiculed.

Dan - I have not contributed in about a year. I lurk to find out the valuable information that YOU give about the CET 7 star program. I hate to contribute because I don't want to be accused of being an oh so special 7 star.

But probably the main reason is - we (DH -seemoreroyals) and I and anyone else that showed up were suppose to meet up with Alan for coffee at the GGWU last year at 5pm. We got there a little early and waited to around t 5:30 and no Alan. What was his excuse - sorry folks - and "Funny Story- some guy was on a run at a craps table" WHAT!! He couldn't excuse himself and meet people from the forum.

However, I do appreciate all your posts Dan and lurk on this forum to find valuable information about the CET program.
(speaking of that - noticed on Seven Star Insiders - they added another 7 star signature event cruise from NOLA for Dec 14-21)

I will keep lurking and hope you don't get discouraged by the mean spirited trolls on here.

Not surprised that you would take offense to my post, since you're one of the biggest trolls here.

The prank calls I make on my radio show (which are only occasional) are never mean-spirited, and never harm the party I'm calling in any way. The only exception involves known scammers or other major scumbags in poker, who deserve a little taking down (but even those are fairly tame).

But what does this have to do with Alan's forum? Surely you can't make the case that I troll anyone here.

I'm sorry that offended you, but I guess you don't play much craps. A couple of points:

1. A run for a shooter is a rare event -- and you never want to leave.
2. It is very poor etiquette to color-up and leave during a player's "hand" or turn with the dice. Try that at some casinos, and some guys might follow you to your car and smash your head into your windshield.

As a craps player for 40 years, I have to side with Alan on this one.

One time many years ago (i was 23) I was at the Flamingo playing craps and a young "professional lady" in the lounge across from the craps table caught my eye. Having never partaken of professional companionship it was a long debate in my mind but I finally decided to jump in. Since I was with other lawyers and didn't want them to know, the arrangement we made was for me to go back to the craps table and her to walk by in 15 minutes and tap me on the back and I would follow her to the elevator.

The craps game got hot--she came and tapped me on the back--and I said get the eff out of here. A hot craps game always wins out over sex. So cut Alan a little slack.

I don't post as much as before because of the antics. As a result, there's probably less than 10% of the posts that contain anything of actual value to me. I find that maybe another 10% are about the casino games I don't play (Which is fine. I'm wise enough to appreciate the skills and knowledge demonstrated by those contributors.) The remaining 80% is the silliness. As I said in another thread, it's all very much akin to toddlers in a sandbox throwing sand at each other: immaturity all around.

Regnis, it goes a bit further than just that. I wasn't aware of this incident until I just read it, and it should serve as a life's lesson for everyone. Doing what you say you will do builds an incredible amount of trust, and says very loudly that you respect the other party. It's also key in the credibility dept. When someone uses ANY excuse to blow someone off without having the wherewithal or courtesy to inform the other party beforehand barring a true emergency, it speaks volumes, and it can destroy trust in an instant. In this particular case where an event such as gambling came first with blatant disrespect for a prior commitment, it says more than one needs or cares to know. The fact that a "table was hot" doesn't even reach the pathetic stage.

How about this Rob: I didn't notice the time. But would a better excuse have been I just had a flat tire?
Sorry I didn't make the meet-up. I didn't realize that would keep people off the forum for a year.

Rob clearly is not a craps player. A good roll comes as often as the cubs win the world series.

And isn't there some kind of unwritten Vegas rule relating to time and meeting up with others.

It's about simple respect and how you would like to be treated. No gambling event would or should ever come before disrespecting others. A courteous phone call would have sufficed, and if that wasn't an option then there is no excuse at all. None Alan. As I said, it speaks volumes.

You should never color up unless the last shooter has sevened out and the dealers are clearing chips off the table. If any shooter has the dice you wait.

A hot roll is ANY roll without a seven out. But most players would call a hand "hot" after 20 throws because that's rare.

About 15 years ago I sauntered up to a craps table at the Golden Nugget (downtown Vegas) very late at night and plunked down $40 playing the pass line with odds and placing points. I kept pressing my bets because of my hot luck with making points. Occasionally I would seven out, but would repeat the process all over again and still remain hot even during the next series of dice shoots. I walked out with about $1,800 or so.

I was alone at the table. If the stickman had passed the dice to another shooter (which was impossible at the time), it would have interfered with my generally hot luck since I was rolling sevens at a lower frequency than normal.

Maybe it's rude for the stickman to change to the next shooter after a hot roller finally sevens out? Just because the shooter doesn't roll a flawless series without sevens doesn't mean he couldn't be very lucrative to bet with at the time. From what I can tell, all that's really needed is a lower frequency of 7's than normal.

This is only partially correct. What you really want is for the 7s to show up at the "right time." You want 7s to show up on the come-out roll. If you could throw a dozen sevens in a row on the "come out" you could make a fortune. What you don't want is for 7s to show up after a "point" is established.

The procedure in the game is for the stickman to offer the dice to the next player, going clockwise, after the previous shooter sevens out. The next clockwise player is not obligated to accept the dice to shoot next. I have been at tables where all the players "passed" on accepting the dice so that the "same shooter" could roll again.

Sure, Alan, I understand all that. I have a good grasp of the rules in craps, but if someone has a really hot roll making all kinds of points before sevening out wouldn't it be rude or jarring to have the stickman pass the dice to the next shooter?

I have to wonder if perfect craps etiquette would be having all the others present at the table agree to simply pass the dice right back to the shooter that finally sevens out after shooting 15+ points, just to see if he can do it again....

15+ points or 15+ numbers? There is a difference.

The procedural rules for craps is for the dice to move clockwise, just as the dealers button in poker moves clockwise. As I mentioned above it's up to the next player in line to decide if they want the dice or if they choose to pass.

What makes you think a shooter who just made 15+ points would even want the dice back? If I made 15 points at a $25 table betting full 3x, 4x, 5x odds, I would have made $2,625 not counting what I would have also made hitting "numbers" in between the points. If I hit just ONE number between points it would be an additional profit of $490 for a total profit of $3,115 less my initial outlay which (depending on the point) would have been as little as $235.

That would have been a net profit of $2,880 and I would have been running to the cage with those chips.

And if a Fire Bet were involved, it is likely that with 15 points made, six might be different points meaning a $10 fire bet would return an additional $10,000. Now, would you expect me to shoot again?

I CREATED A NEW THREAD FOR THIS DISCUSSION ABOUT HOT ROLLS AND CRAPS ETTIQUETTE.

I think there were two dueling issues at play here:

1) It would be a breach in etiquette to color up from the craps table during a hot roll

2) It would be a breach in etiquette to agree to meet someone and then not show up

The problem is that both #1 and #2 were happening here, and it was impossible to avoid both. So Alan had to choose, and he chose not to breach #1's etiquette.

I think the moral of the story is NOT to start playing craps if you agreed to be somewhere soon.

But I had no guarantee that the others would be there waiting for me. I hate to say it, but many times I've had "meet ups" scheduled in Vegas and for one reason or another someone is a no show.

Dan... we met for the first time at Nobu. And by luck your reservation was set for about 30 minutes after we finished dinner so we hung out in the bar. Look at why our meet up was successful:

1. We had each other's cell phone numbers and could phone and text each other.
2. We had a certain time to meet up: you had a reservation, and we were finishing dinner in the same location.

But was it our first time meeting up in Vegas? No. We were both at Caesars several times in the past but failed to meet up for various reasons -- and that's life in the big city.

What's wrong with what Rob wrote. I don't understand why he was banned for having an opinion. People have been calling you names and being a lot more disrespectful than telling you that you have a gambling problem. You've been told you were dumber than the character on dumb and dumber. I think it is kinda strange you feel that the ban for mickeycrimm was long overdue while Rob's personal attacks and insults have been flying around for about two years, he has been banned before for his behavior and never really cleaned up his act. Must be me, but I don't get that.

I'm with Alan on this one for 200%. It's disturbing too see that people lowered their standards in regards to the amount of personal attacks that are acceptable. I have stayed away from this forum for a long time because some individuals were bringing out the worst in me. I've even had words with Alan in the past and I have even been banned. When all is said and done, I think Alan was right to ban me at that moment because I was responding out of frustration. That's what happens when people constantly insult you while you are expected to remain civil (and it wasn't Alan who was insulting me). It makes your blood boil to the point where you say things you regret after the fact. This forum had become the place where you could burn people to the ground without consequences and that's not the direction any forum host wants to go.

Singer has always been a cancer on any forum he has been allowed to comment freely. Like all cancers that can lead to additional growth (comments), but none of it is healthy.

I don't recall Rob ever throwing out Cuss words or "F" bombs. Yeah, he's egotistical and insulting. But aren't most of the people on here? That will never change. Let me ask you Alan. Do you think you have a gambling problem? It does seem to take over your life and that's why this forum does so well.

I think Rob adds a lot of positive influences in the discussions forum and he doesn't care about comps like most of the people on here do. I really like that he argues against them. That's how I feel.

You left out the worst one---the wife walks up to the table in the middle of the guy's roll.

Whenever "she" (wife or girlfriend) walks up to the table I say to her "now you can't leave because that would break the curse."

After a while they learn -- and never walk up to the table.
