What is my "long term" for video poker?

So much talk about the long term in video poker... so I wanted to figure out what my long term is?

I am 63 years old. I hope to be going to casinos for the next 20 years. I see plenty of 83 year old folks going to casinos to enjoy the buffets... maybe I'll get to be one of them?

Okay, so I'm 63 with 20 years of visits ahead of me.

Let me hope that I can go to a casino once a month to play video poker for five hours. That's 5 hours X 12 months = 60 hours a year. Let's say each of those visits involves two days, so now I have 120 hours of play a year.

I am not a fast player. I figure I play ten hands a minute, about six seconds each, and this takes into account when I hit a winner and the credits add up on the meter -- I like to watch that happen.

10 hands per minute X 60 minutes per hour = 600 hands per hour.

600 hands per hour X 120 hours per year X 20 years = 1,440,000 hands which is my long term.

83? That's all? 90 year olds constantly get in my way with their walkers :-)

I'm a lot younger than you, but I'm certain I'll play way less hands then that. Mostly because my vp play doesn't consist of five hour sessions.

I play a bit less than that per year, but I'm a few years younger, so let's say my long term is also 1.5 million hands. Arci, are you there? How representative is 1.5 million hands of an infinite number of hands?

Once a month??? Yeah, right.

I've been going once a week and staying for two nights. I will play over a half millions hands this year alone. However, since my game is being removed my play will drop to nearly zero unless I decide to visit Vegas again.

For the games Alan play (AFBP), he should be quite close to expectation in less than a million hands. I think they had an equation over on vpfree. I

Arc at Bellagio they have One Eyed Jacks starting at $1. I didn't look at the pay tables but what pay table do you need to play it? I will be back there this coming week -- staying there instead of Caesars for the Great Gift Wrap Up.

There are a couple of good pay tables. I play the 4000-1000-375-250-15-5-3-2-1 version (100.28%). I doubt their game is anywhere close.

I will check when I go. I also doubt Bellagio has anything close to full pay. I can't even find 8/5 Bonus there.

Gee....I wish I could sit at the poker machines for a half million hands. Quite the life going to an Indian casino for 2 nights every week.:) Maybe I'll text my daughter in Gem Lake, Mn. and let them know what they're missing out on!

The casino has a nice golf course which I also play each day I am there in the summer. They also put me in a two room suite due to my level of play. Add in an exercise room, a spa and a couple of nice restaurants and most people would consider it more like a vacation. All comped of course. Did I mention free wifi? Yup, it is just awful that I am able to enjoy what most people would consider a nice vacation each and every week. Oh yeah, and I've made a bundle of money to boot.

Leave it to Singer (or should that be Beaver) to once again make a complete fool of himself.

What was this purpose of this thread, Alan? Just to figure out how many more hands of VP you're going to play in your lifetime?

Arc I only wish I had the time to enjoy all that many casino resorts have to offer. In my case I love the shows and the restaurants. What is great about Vegas is that so many fine restaurants are within walking distance and that also means you don't have to drive and pay $18.50 for valet parking in Beverly Hills... or half that in Malibu or Santa Monica or Pasadena or the Melrose Avenue area.

Unfortunately you can have only one lunch and one dinner per day in Vegas but there are half a dozen restaurants I would love every day and don't forget about the luxury of room service and relaxing and watching movies. I average six movies per weekend and that's not a lie. Frankly it's the only TV I watch. While I make TV I don't watch it. (Don't tell my advertisers that.)

Yeah, I guess when you have to do things alone then you might as well try to keep your mind busy so you don't keep kicking yourself over mistakes of the past. Funny thing though: I've looked at every day being a vacation day since I retired, whether I stay home, RV, or travel somewhere via car. I don't need casinos to "make my day". Problem gamblers do.

Exactly. Singer is a delusional fool if he thinks enjoying a nice trip with good food, good entertainment, and social interaction with other nice folks is a bad thing.

I was shocked at the quality of entertainment and the venues at some of the bigger Native American casinos like Pechanga and Cherokee. I don't recommend the gambling, but I recommend them as resort destinations.

Pechanga really does have great concerts -- far superior to Rincon and the other casinos in the area. In the Palm Springs area the casinos there also get great acts and shows.

Rincon despite their new ballroom still lacks in getting the big acts.

Never said that arci. You really do need to do something about your pathological online lying.

Having good food while enjoying good entertainment and talking to others isn't a bad thing. But it can be done without habitually needing to go to casinos to do it. I'll bet you can't, and now that you're free I expect the only other thing you do between now and grim reaper day is drive to Nevada. If you do let me know. I have a 58-yr. old widowed cousin there whose husband just passed away, and she's doing the same thing you are.

Funny, when they took out the OEJs machines at my nearest casino I stopped playing for two years. I will completely change my routine when the OEJs games are removed from the casino I've been using. Probably visit only in the summer when I can play golf. As usual you don't understand anything at all about advantage play. Probably why you failed.

And when he realizes that we've stored our RV for vacations that cost nearly double what our new home was, maybe he'll finally begin the healing process. How do they justify the cost of those things? I knew a man who repo'd a new one with the front end wrecked and still ended up over $100k in it.

There's no good justification, and there's no bigger money pits. It's something that you have to be in the right mindset to do together, and you have to have a whole lot of disposable extra cash--not just for the shocking purchase but for the massive amount of expenses for operation & maintenance, even on new units like ours is. We got the biggest one, but they're still very small inside. Their only plus is their luxury and the ability to go anywhere with your "home". We lived in it for 4+ years and that was enough. Now we'll probably use it one month a year.

Red, arci got what he asked for & deserved both from life and from me. No question about it. This is a gambling-relation forum for honest discussion, and when someone like him comes along with a pack of non-stop lies & stupid assertions as well as having shown how he respects vp machines & points over the life of another human being--then proves it by turning into nothing but a weekly casino-rat as soon as the insurance policy cashes out--it's what the saying "what goes around comes around" is truly all about.

The guy for years has spent every opportunity on every forum lying about my vp play, my family, and my life including here, simply because he disagrees with my strategy and success. Then he makes his wife go to casinos when she would have been far better living a healthy final few years. So when all his BS comes around full circle and in such a righteous way, he absolutely gets what he's been asking for and deserves. He should have thought about his lies. Almost everything Rob writes about is pure nonsense. He's basically swinging for the fences every time he plays. Well, when he used to play, supposedly. Given the huge amounts of cash he claims to have and the winning system of his, I'm surprised he doesn't drive out to LV 1-2 times a month and plays $1 to $100 SPS or ARTT. He could still file taxes as a professional gambler and have plenty of time with his lovely wife in his motorhomes. But instead, he plays $0.25 to $2 SPS/ARTT, or something like that, because he claims he wants time to be at home with his wife and can't file taxes as a pro any more for some reason. Whatever. More nonsense.

Rob is banned on every gambling forum and is the laughing stock of all professional gamblers.

Dan, you're missing the point: HE DOESN'T CARE about what went down with his wife or what I say or how justice has been served up to him after his years of stalking & lying. All he has ever loved is sitting at the vp machines, then trying to force his views on everyone else. No big surprise how you keep making it up on the go. Something you'll never have: pensions, ss, 401k...equate to retirement. Constantly going to germ-infested casinos is not any reasonable retiree's definition of a quality life, and it's actually a sickness for anyone who doesn't do it professionally AND successfully. Once every month or two should be fine for anybody looking for entertainment. I just bought a house for entertainment, and I just ordered a 2016 Charger Hellcat to put into our garage. All with cash. The latter I have to wait for. Even that's more entertaining than going to casinos all the time.

I would just pray that, for Cindy's sake it would stop. From all I've read over the past 10 years, she seems like a wonderful person and you said you believed that what goes around comes around and I think she's needed. What does concern me is Rob selling the mystical, magical nonsense of personal tragedy being the result of some karmic comeuppance. Rob has preached that here, and it basically amounts to religion of some kind. So Rob is not only promulgating his personal BELIEFS regarding video poker, but he is allowed to repeat time after time his personal religious beliefs on a gambling forum. This is inappropriate at best.

Picture me claiming that worshiping Satan was the key to my lifetime winning at sports betting, and that all of you Christian/Jewish/Muslim dolts were losing and getting what you deserve because you don't worship Satan, and that every tragedy and disappointment in your lives was because of this. Picture me posting this every other day. I think Alan would pull the plug on me pretty quickly. Rob basically does the same thing by claiming his "righteous" life and personal beliefs have resulted in him having a wife who is alive and a motor home and video poker winnings. It's just ridiculous. These posts are a form of personal religion and do not belong on a gambling forum.

Of a much more serious consideration: What about the Sandy Hook shootings where almost two dozen 1st graders were shot to death in their classroom? How could it be possible that young children being brutally victimized like this would

Well imagine that--red's looking at this as if arci has never written anything hateful or nasty about myself or my family over the years. Get the whole picture before the lectures.

Karma because of vp strategy or AP nonsense has nothing to do with my message. Alan, I understand your thoughts on this. But as I've said many times, I have credibility with my entire family as well as with all the people I've worked with in business around the world. That's what's important to me. I also have lots of cred with the people I've trained and advised on something as unimportant as vp. Arc you've been saying this a long time. But how exactly is Rob saying that the mathematics and the mathematicians are wrong? It seems to me he is taking the mathematics into account but playing differently hoping to get lucky to connect with a winner that will beat the theoretical expectation.

He has been caught in so many lies I lost count.

1) He claimed to have all kinds of documents to support his many claims in a storage locker in AZ. He has yet to provide one single shred of evidence.
2) He claimed to have won over a million dollars but would not send his tax returns to Alan for verification after claiming he had already sent them.
3) He claimed to live in a big house in Carefree, AZ but when I checked his records it turns out it was a small apartment from which he appears to have been evicted a few years ago.
4) He masqueraded as another person on this very site. Alan caught him using his IP address.
5) He claimed his wife is an engineer but she has no degrees in engineering.
6) He originally claimed to have a 6 step progression but when pressed he admitted he only used the 6th step 3 times (which is doubtful in any event).
7) He claims to have had 3 mathematicians verify his system yet no mathematician could support that junk and he has never provided those names.

Do I need to go on? This is the tip of the iceberg.

Allow me to punch some holes in your statements:

1. I know an AP who went bust. There was nothing wrong in what he was doing but the "cards" and the machines just didn't cooperate with his "advantage plays." I am sure he's not alone.

2. Special plays in video poker can make a difference IF you get lucky and they hit. Frankly, making the correct plays in video poker is no guarantee that the RNG will cooperate. I make the correct plays ALL THE TIME and I don't use Rob's special plays -- and sometimes I don't win. Actually, until recently, I lost a lot more than I won using the "correct plays." You see Arc, using the right plays doesn't mean you control the RNG... but you knew that.

Below is a photo example of a "play" that both Rob and the APs will agree on. I couldn't have done this any differently than anyone else. LOL

Well, the only schooling I could see was from an Art institute. Not exactly engineering. However, Singer made many claims about her pulling in 6 figures as an engineer, etc. The only reason you might have to defend him is you have some kind of relationship.

I was willing to send Alan my tax forms as long as Singer did the same. I had all the forms filled out ready to go. Alan decided he didn't want to see any of them but that was after Singer has obviously backed down. However, that is not the point. Singer is the one making anti-science claims. Don't you think he should support his claims.

PS. As for seeing my tax returns you'll have to wait till I file next April.

Anybody can claim anything on the internet regarding personal matters. What is said about objective non-personal reality and math in general, however, is something else. Has anything arci said regarding video poker return and the math of game play been demonstrably wrong? Is anything Rob said demonstrably wrong?

Rob has never directly addressed the criticism that nobody with a doctorate in mathematics will agree with him or validate his claims. He did, however say that three mathematicians reviewed his strategies. I'm not sure if he mentioned the credentials of these people. He never provided followup information or the names of those mathematicians. Now one would suspect that there would be some consensus among professional mathematicians regarding whether what Rob does is sound. So it's logical to think that if more math guys look at Rob's strategies, then they should approve and agree with them. Rob has not sought this kind of validation. That's okay -- it just means Rob wants to keep his strategies to himself. But Rob is sharing them on this and other forums. So why would he want the public to have knowledge of what he has crafted, but he doesn't want mathematicians to look at it?

It's an interesting question. Maybe he had a bad math teacher as a child, and he hates people with math degrees.

I experience it every time I go-special plays ABSOLUTELY make a difference. AP's CAN win-with luck and being at the right spot at the right time-he has ALWAYS said luck plays and important part. Math CANNOT define whether one can win on a certain hand and the only math I use is subtracting my losses from my wins. I prefer my computer over the casinos ANY time-it's a marvelous God-given gift (sorry Red} and the fact that I'm not tied down to a set of rules that I MUST follow gives me a sense of mental freedom that's inexplicable.

I think what Alan, Rob, and slingshot (and perhaps coach belly) are saying is that you CAN win if you're in the right position at the right time, with luck, etc. etc. Yes, we all know it's certainly possible to have a winning session while playing with a disadvantage. The more you play with a disadvantage, the more likely you are to be a loser.

LUCK should never play an important part in any winning system or strategy. Well, let me rephrase that -- assuming you don't get extremely unlucky, with a winning system, you should end up a winner. Luck plays no part in AP. You don't get lucky and win, like what these system guys are trying to sell. You win (with AP) because you're supposed to win.

He said some mathematician friends of his looked over his strategy/strategies, told them what they thought, then he revised his strategies from there and that's what he uses. I don't think Rob has ever said his system has been mathematically verified to be a winner. *IF* whatever "wins" Rob is claiming to have had, I suspect 1 of 2 things: Either he did in fact win that much, but ran extremely well and got incredibly lucky. OR he's doing that made-up math stuff, where he double counts his wins but only half counts his losses....ya know, puts $1K in machine, wins $500, cashes out. Puts another $1K in, loses it, another $1K in, loses it. Walks away with a REAL loss of $1500...but in the books he writes a $500 win...because, well, that's how the system works apparently.

It is luck. The skill is finding how to position yourself so the luck finds you.

Sometimes you skillfully get yourself in position but luck doesn't come.

And we all know casinos don't often do the correct "business 101" thing. As a wise man once said, "One day I was with a friend and we were crossing a street.
