Why Waste Time with Video Poker if Win Goals, Loss Limits and Martingale Progressions Work?

Why bother with piddley $100,000 Royal Flushes when there are BIGGER fish to fry? The recent $1.6 Billion dollar Powerball Lottery was the biggest lottery prize in history!

Who's with me? We'll get a bankroll together and start buying Powerball Lottery tickets. We'll start with a modest win goal, and keep buying more and more each draw until we reach it. We can even put our small wins like $4, $7 and $100 into an ambiguous soft profit pool to help us reach our win goal faster!

Once we reach our win goal, we'll "quit" since we are "ahead" and then start over again next week. With any luck (Since it is all luck and by buying more and more tickets we're giving luck more opportunity to appear.) we'll just keep winning million dollar jackpots. There'll be plenty to go around so we don't have to keep arguing with each other.

I made this same argument many moons ago. Basically, why not use it for craps, roulette, baccarat, everything?

If win goals and stop losses work in some material way, they should be applicable to everything. Obviously. And if they worked in some material way, people would have been using them for hundreds of years, and we wouldn't have any casinos, unless you want to argue that our generation suddenly jumped 100 IQ points over past generations.

There's nothing wrong with having a win goal and a loss limit in playing the lottery.

But the question you're not asking is what are the chances of winning the lottery and what are the chances of hitting a royal flush?

Winning the Powerball: 1 in 292 million, I think.
Hitting a royal: 1 in 42,000, I think in most games.

I bought a total of 5 tickets for Powerball: one ticket had the Powerball number, so I had 1/5 wins.
I think in Bonus poker you're supposed to win (break even counts as a win) about 3/5 hands played.

In video poker you can expect to win or push just under 50% of the time. The lottery is a joke, which is why I love to see the very few pictures of big winners after drawings like this last one. Similar to the WSOP--where nobodys from nowhere always win out over all the so-called big name "pros" because poker is nothing more than a game of luck regardless what the wannabes like to say--lottery winners were only hoping that their numbers would be called, just like poker players always hope their cards will be called.

Of course, there's always some out-of-control gambler like LoneStar who comes along, bragging about going to LV 40 times a year while being treated like the Sultan of Brunei, when in reality his wins come less often than the number of times his son masturbates in a 48-hour period in a "Parlour Suite" at Wynn.

I think Rob is trying to tell us those Parlor Suites come with a lot of free porn. But how would Rob know that?

Rob never ceases to surprise. Every time I think his most recent post hit a new low, along comes a newer post with a lower low.

I wouldn't call it a new low. He's just keeping the Pahrump end up (that's a take-off on the end of The Spy Who Loved Me).

We all know he just wants to bait LoneStar into a discussion of his son's love life. That is kind of creepy when you think about it.

Looks like Singer is hooked on the LoneStar saga. I can just see him signing on every few minutes to see if the newest installment is available.

I do give Rob credit for some originality on this one. No one could have expected this one. Does no one else see the dark humor in Rob's posts? Keep em coming Rob--I am easily entertained by you.

Tell me you have no confidence that you could beat any poker player--"pro" or not--at any table anytime anywhere. It is nothing more than a knowledge of the game and a whole lotta luck. All this nonsense about "reads" and feelings about those reads and doing the math on a deck when you have no idea what cards are already out, is nothing but commercial BS designed to improve the popularity of the game.

Most "live" poker in this world is played online. This completely eliminates all that mystique about reads and feelings. So now we're down to luck, just like we always are in video poker.

Poker has been legalized in so many jurisdictions in this country because it has been proven in courts of law that it is a game of skill.

It may be legal in states like Nevada but how do you know the seven or eight others at your table aren't playing on laptops in the same living room?

When I played on Pokerstars they had stop gap measures to thwart colluders. The easiest technique is tracking players to see who was always playing in the same games together. Then look at their betting patterns.

Also, by explaining over & over why I've been a successful, consistently winning vp player and why the critics are unable to launch any attack that doesn't include playing into infinity or at least several million hands, there's not much more I can do other than to insult how dumb they are for being blinded to the undeniable truth.

Taking the larger picture view, much of my time here outside of all the teachable moments, has been arguing with the AP point of view and saying why it's nothing but self-confidence-building BS. This is how dumb of a gambler Rob is. It depends on what the money line is. If you would have gotten an average of +310 against the Patriots this year in the regular season you would have showed a profit.

I'm going to wing this without looking stuff up, but I seem to recall that a protagonist should be the person whose point of view commands the story or the character with which we are supposed to identify.

Rob's point of view doesn't really command the storyline here, but there is a certain pathos that draws the reader in with Rob. Kind of like Frankenstein's monster. You feel for him, even though he's strangling the villagers. And when a blind guy takes him in (no Alan, I'm not referencing you -- it's actually in the story), the monster gets along swell. Until he throws the little girl in the lake, although that may have been an analogy for the times that 57K goes down the Martingale River.

Rob probably sees himself more as a latter day Dexter. I only saw that show a couple of times, but I got the drift. A serial killer who kills serial killers. Kind of like somebody who uses 95% AP strategies, but goes around killing AP's because they're evil.

I expect a Pulitzer to go with my MacArthur for what I just wrote, by the way.

Somebody has them at 14-1 to win the thing.

What was interesting was that, while the Patriots drew spread money the last 24 hours, moneyline money came in on the Broncos at the end.
