Did you even consider if this was posted in the appropriate section before posting?
Appropriate section? Are you kidding? Give the monkey credit for being trained to type so well with her phone while hanging from branches.
Give her a break…. I’d like to see what you could do while swinging from your tail in a tree.
You’re so mean blackasshole
How is it a new decade?
Was there a year zero?
Tasha, I did get and read your long email. I will only say I know you feel like going on a cussing rant, but don't do it. Nothing good can come from it.
Tasha, first I would like to thank you for your contributions to this message board. This place would not be what it is without you.
This thread alone has me seriously wondering whether it is a new decade or not. Good stuff.
And if you feel the need to give a cussing rant just remember you are better than that ! Remember though that Jesus forgives if you DO cuss and rant.
Happy New Years!
Thanks for the advice. :) I was going through one of my weird phases when I considered doing the cussing rant a few days ago but even then my logical brain told me, "Maybe you should hold off in that cussing rant. Remember how bad your other cussing rant 7 months ago ended up being. " And I listened to my logical brain and didn't do it. :)
This is a perfect example of why and how the endless stupidity on this forum continues.
Not only the stupidest, but the biggest con artist on this site, getting advice from the number 2 and 3 underlings who are both secretly fighting for the top spot. Of course, now that KewlJ is allegedly gone these two idiots moved up a spot. Imagine sharing private e-mails seeking advice from un-known anonymous people over something as ridiculous as this thread.
One of them even brought up Jesus. I’m surprised the other one didn’t bring up Allah, based on his known political beliefs.
Dumb, Dumber, and Dumbest. You can’t make this stuff up.
(Being it's a New Year, maybe it could be a good time to re-evaluate your life's.)
Our calendar was created by the Romans. This is the year 2020 A.D.
A.D. is the abreviation for the Latin "anno domini" which means "in the year of our Lord" and refers to the birth of Christ.
The year of Christ's birth was the year "1" and not the year "zero." Therefore the decade begins with 2021.
There is another thing to consider: there is no "zero" with Roman numerals. For this reason alone there could not be a year Zero.
I will anticipate your next question: yes, the years jumped from 1 B.C. (before Christ) to the year 1 A.D.
There is also no such year as Zero when the years are marked as B.C.E. which is Before the Christian Era to C.E. which is the abbreviation for Christian Era.
Again, since there was never a year Zero, decades begin with years ending with the digit 1.
Now I'll throw you and the other nitpicking trolls for a loop. A decade is a period of ten years. 1935 can be the start of a decade just like 1932 or 1939 can be the start of a decade.
So to be more exact, 2021 will mark the start of another decade since the start of the current Roman calendar.
Yes a decade is any period of 10 years and can begin on any date.
So the OP correctly noted the following...
You would have also been correct if you wrote....
But you qualified your claim by stating the following...
How will you extract yourself from the loop that you created?
Specified decades begin on specific dates.
The decade of the 2020's obviously began on 1/1/2020.
I believe that was the OP's observation, and the point of her original post.
You likely understood her point, but you tried to dispute the obvious anyway.
As did the retard who wrote this...
I'm not sure how to respond to this... "I'd rather be an underling than a nothing". Would that piss you off even more in your weird world that is totally bizarro to me.
It is interesting you obviously have paid enough attention to me to remember I don't like Trump. I'm not sure that is much of a political belief. It is far more of a ethical belief.
Really, what bugs me at this point is how Trump's fans can't acknowledge that the guy does anything wrong. EVER. I'm not sure why this seems like a thing. I guess other presidents didn't do outlandlish shit constantly that makes one question their supporters. Case in point - Trump pardoning that guy. The war criminal's own guys didn't want to report on him, but had enough of his evil bullshit. It was actually bad enough to be investigated and that is not something that readily happens in the military. Those guys operate with impunity for the most part. I mean, go look at a list of what the guy had been accused of and my guess is that it is likely all true.
To let that guy go and take him to political fundraisers as a hero is the equivalent to taking a big shit on everyone in the armed forces who actually tries and believes they're "doing the right thing".
You ask the Trumpers about this shit and ALWAYS some variation on "Well someone else somewhere in the past has done something at least vaguely analogous therefore HA! Thats just the press making a big deal of it".
What
the
fuck
You must be a moron.
The 1920s ran from 1/1/1920 - 12/31/1929.
Was that not a new consecutive decade from the preceding decade 1910-1919?
Then the decades that followed (30s, 40s, 50s, etc...) were not consecutive to their respective preceding decade?
LOL...OK jackass...believe whatever you want to believe.
We are now in the 2020s, the new decade began on 1/1/2020.
Are you really so dense as not to understand that?
Deal with it you fucking numbskull.
You are a fool...way to show your ass.
Here's the original point, which is obviously true no matter how you look at it...
But you being the jackass that you are, you disputed that fact anyway...
So dummy, do you now understand that it is a new decade?...the 2020s?
If we're not in the 2020s, then what decade are we in?
I'm not trying to change the topic, if the topic at hand is your simple-minded questions...
The 2020s is a new decade. That decade began on 1/1/2020.
Are you disputing that?
Do you really not understand that 1/1/2020 began the decade of the 2020s?
You asked "how?"...the answer is the same as how 1/1/1920 began a new decade.
Here's an explanation, hope it's still not over your head...
The 1920s (pronounced "nineteen-twenties") was a decade of the Gregorian calendar that began on January 1, 1920, and ended on December 31, 1929.
The same criteria applies to the 2020s. Not sure how you can misunderstand this, unless of course you are too retarded to understand.
Your second question is irrelevant, since a new decade can start on any date...
No there wasn't a year zero, but it doesn't follow that therefore a new decade did not start on 1/1/2020.
There was a year 1900.
The decade known as the 1900s (1900-1909) began on 1/1/1900.
The century known as the 1900s (1900-1999) also began on 1/1/1900.
Do you dispute those dates...because there was no year zero?
Mr Belly you can call any ten year period a decade. 1865 to 1875 was a decade.
But as we measure time through the use of our calendars the definition of a decade is specific.
The first year in the Christian Era, or what is known as Anno Domini or year of our Lord, was the year 1 A.D. The Roman priest who devised the first calendar called the first year "1," and he did not call it "Zero." This fact is accepted all over the world. Look it up if you don't believe it.
Now, with year 1 being the first year, here's how the first few decades looked:

Do you want to refer to the years of 1960 to 1969 as the decade of the 60s? Well go right ahead. But it's not a decade as measuring the time Anno Domini or year of our Lord.
You’re wrong Andrew G. Most frequently used method is the cardinal method explained very well by Wikipedia below. In common usage no one ever defines the 60s as 61 to 70 or the 80s as 81 to 90.
any period of ten years is a "decade", and there is no "official" legal nor administrative start or end point,[1][2] so it can be any arbitrary span of ten years. For example, (1) 'the first decade' of a person's life begins on their birthday; (2) the statement that "during his last decade, Mozart explored chromatic harmony to a degree rare at the time" merely refers to the last ten years of Mozart's life without regard to which calendar years are encompassed.
There are two main methods of counting decades in recognition. The first method, counting ordinally, counts decades starting with the first year 1 CE (For example, the years 1981–1990 is referred to as the 199th decade or the 9th decade of the 20th century), while the other, counting cardinally, groups years based on having the same digits (For example, the years 1980–1989 is referred to as the 1980s, or commonly known as the eighties).
A YouGov poll was conducted on December 2, 2019, asking 13,582 Americans whether the following decade would begin on New Year's Day 2020 or New Year's Day 2021. Results show that 64% of Americans answered the next decade will begin on January 1, 2020, and will end on December 31, 2029 (the cardinal range). 19% of the Americans surveyed replied they are unsure, while 17% answered the next decade will begin on January 1, 2021, and will end on December 31, 2030 (the ordinal range).[3]
The frequently used method to refer to decades is the cardinal method, which groups years based on their shared tens digit, such as the nineteen-sixties (1960s) referring to the period from 1960 to 1969.[4][5] Sometimes, only the tens part is mentioned (60s or sixties), although this may leave it uncertain which century is meant. In this method, a new decade begins when the third digit of a numerical year changes (for example, the 1970s began when 1969 ended and 1970 took over) while ending on the last day of any year ending in nine. The fact of there being no year zero does not apply, as this method counts decades cardinally rather than ordinally.
The rarer ordinal decade counts years beginning with the year AD 1, as the Gregorian calendar counts ordinally rather than cardinally, and hence there was no year zero. For example, the term 196th decade spans the years from 1951 to 1960. The last year of an ordinal decade ends in zero while matching with the corresponding digits used in the title (For example, the 201st decade spans from 2001 to 2010). Alternately, one could use the term "sixth decade of the twentieth century" in lieu of "196th decade" to refer to the years 1951–1960.
Particularly in the 20th century, decades came to be referred to with associated nicknames, such as the "Swinging Sixties" (1960s), the "Warring Forties" (1940s) and the "Roaring Twenties" (1920s). This practice is occasionally also applied to decades of earlier centuries; for example, referencing the 1890s as the "Gay Nineties" or "Naughty Nineties".
Mr dgenben your post, citing opinion polls to create facts, just shows how stupid most people are.
Here's another fucking poll question to ask: what is the definition of AD? Most of your stupid poll responders will say it means "after death."
Learn how to read.
The first year in the year of our Lord was 1. That's how you start counting your decades.
Read this moron. You can label any ten year period any way you want to. You want to call the roaring 20s the roaring 20s then go ahead.
But the first calendar year was the year 1. It wasn't zero. Calling the roaring 20s the roaring 20s doesn't change that the first decade of Anno Domini was the years 1 through 10.
Now shut up moron.
O, I guess I was BOTH right AND wrong. This is the the start of the 20's DECADE, but technically it is NOT a new Devade. :)
You really are a fucking moron who can't read. I said all along you can call any ten year period a decade. But you didn't see that? No. You had to create your forum diarrhea of telling everyone the same thing everyone else can read for themselves.
There is no question that any ten year period is a decade. Got that bozo fuck face?
The only question to get straight here for bozo belly is that the first calendar year was 1. So the next calendar decade will start in 2021... and if you don't agree with that fuck off idiot.
Did you ever pay your son for all that work he did Alan?
And if you are not Alan, I apologize for confusing you with that miserable piece of shit. Walking scammer who would fuck anyone over to get his losing gambling fix. Did it for years under the guise of consumer advocate. Bad, bad individual with zero moral compass.
Who doesn't refer to the years 1960-1969 as the decade of the 60s?
You are a mental patient.
Just look at how quickly you went from being polite to vitriolic when confronted with your own stubborn ignorance.
But you didn’t actually change, your mask fell off and revealed who you really are.
Come on bozo belly. Did the new decade start with 2020 or does it start in 2021?
Let's see if you learned what Anno Domini means? Or if you're just going to remain stupid?
Just as the century known as the 1900s began on 1/1/1900, and the decade known as the 1960s began on 1/1/1960, the new decade known as the 2020s began on 1/1/2020.
Do you disagree?
You seem to be struggling with the concept of "ordinal" counting vs "cardinal" counting...compounded by whatever other psychological issues that you struggle with.
The decade of AndrewG on VCT began 9/x/2019. It will end 10 years later on 9/x-1/2029, then the next decade of AndrewG will start on 9/x/2029.
Get it now, bozo?
This is the most fucked up forum I've ever been on.
Yes. For the millionth time, yes. You can call any group of ten years a decade. Yes, the decade of the 20s began with 2020. Yes, yes, yes.
But the decade of Anno Domini starts in 2021.
Do you understand that?
Let me congratulate Tasha. She gets it.
[QUOTE=AndrewG;95909][QUOTE=coach belly;95908]
So what idiot? What is your point idiot? Everyone has already agreed a decade can start anytime you like idiot.
If you are trying to look smart because you can use a method that almost no one uses in practice idiot, I hate to tell you but the ship on you looking smart sailed long ago idiot.
Have a pleasant weekend idiot.
[QUOTE=DGenBen;95912][QUOTE=AndrewG;95909]Today is January 3, 2020 A.D. Apparently you don't understand that.
It's amazing that this is being debated on a forum of self proclaimed experts and math geniuses. You don't even know what the date is.
Here you go. Happy new year and end of a decade.
https://www.cnn.com/2019/12/21/us/wh...rnd/index.html
So what?
The original post in this thread did not reference Anno Domini.
The original observation of this thread is a follows...
Tasha was referring to the new decade that began on 1/1/2020...the 2020s.
As another contributor pointed out, that is how society commonly and most frequently refers to decades...
The most frequently used method to refer to decades is the cardinal method, which groups years based on their shared tens digit, such as the nineteen-sixties (1960s) referring to the period from 1960 to 1969.
And, you've agreed...that is correct.
But your initial reply contained the following declarations, both of which are dubious at best...
Decades begin every year, not only in years ending with 1.
And you've agreed that this correct.
Since decades can begin in any year, the fact that there was no year zero is irrelevant to when decades begin.
Yes, a decade begins with 2021...but not all decades, not the decade we are in today, the 2020s.
Our current decade (the new decade) began on 1/1/2020.
And, you've agreed that this is correct as well.
And no one would define the new decade, the 2020s , as beginning on 1/1/2021.
Would you?
The US Government has answered your question Mr Belly. Read the CNN article.
And if you’re going to excerpt my posts do it honestly.
This will set your clock back (pun intended Mr Belly), from the CNN article:
"The US Naval Observatory, the agency that maintains the country's master clock, tackled this question in 1999 as people debated when the new millennium would begin. According to the astronomical dating system through which it measures time, the observatory stated that the new millennium would begin on January 1, 2001."
We know what the date is...you seem conflicted about whether or not a new decade began on 1/1/2020.
I didn't see where the US Government defined the new decade.
That's not in the CNN article, maybe you should re-read it...
According to the astronomical dating system through which it measures time, the observatory stated that the new millennium would begin on January 1, 2001.
Also from the CNN article...
We talk about decades differently...as a society, we seem to have collectively determined that decades begin in years ending in zero and end on years ending in nine.
After all, it makes sense.
When we think of the 90s, we think of the period from 1990-1999. It just doesn't make sense that the year 1990 would be considered part of the 80s.
It is pointless to continue this discussion. But before I leave the discussion some final comments.
When I talk about what the date is it is in reference to our calendar and dating system which began with the year 1.
The paragraph I quoted about the US Naval Observatory came from the CNN article. There is a link to the CNN article.
When I say excerpt me honestly it means do not pick and choose partial comments to support your case. Excerpt my full thoughts.
Again Tasha gets it. There are two ways to measure decades.
If a millennium (1,000 years) starts in a year ending with one, a century will also start with a year ending in 1, and a decade will end in a year ending in 1. This is why the decision by the US Naval Observatory applies to this thread.
Frankly I'm surprised this is being debated. In elementary school we were taught the first year was 1 and not Zero and that a new century started in 1901 and not in 1900.
And yes I refer to 80s music but the decade started in 1981. I get it. Do you Mr Belly?
You wrote this: "When we think of the 90s, we think of the period from 1990-1999. It just doesn't make sense that the year 1990 would be considered part of the 80s."
Very simply, why can't you think of the fashions and music and styles of the 90s while the year 1990 actually belonged to the previous decade? Why is that an issue? One thought has nothing to do with the other, does it?
I copied and pasted that passage directly from the CNN article, using the link you provided.
If a record was released in 1990, then which decade did it "belong to", the 80s or the 90s ?
As you already agreed, decades measure a period of 10 years and can start at any time.
When considering only decades that begin on Jan 1, the year 1990 actually belongs to 10 decades...1981-1990 through 1990-1999.
If the question is...did a new decade start on 1/1/2020? ...then the answer is undisputedly yes.
If the question is...did the new decade start on 1/1/2020? ...if the new decade referred to is the 2020s, then the answer is undisputedly yes.
I'm not sure what you are debating...both 1900 and 1901 are correct, because they refer to distinct centuries.
from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/20th_century
The 20th (twentieth) century was a century that began on January 1, 1901[1] and ended on December 31, 2000.[2] It was the tenth and final century of the 2nd millennium. Strictly speaking, it is distinct from the century known as the 1900s which began on January 1, 1900, and ended on December 31, 1999.
We commonly use both terms..."20th Century" (ordinally) and "the 1900s" (cardinally).
They are distinct centuries, referring to distinct periods of time.
Not so with decades, we exclusively refer to decades cardinally...groups of years based on having the same digits (For example, the years 1980–1989 is referred to as the 1980s, or commonly known as the eighties).
If we are not in the decade known as the 2020s, then what decade are we in?
You seem convinced that only ordinal counting of groups of years is correct.
So OK, ordinally...what's the name of the current decade?
Or, if you maintain that a new decade will start on 1/1/2021, then what's the name of the next new decade?
I talked with Alan and.it's every 18 years (yo's) in a row!
This thread is awesome.
Happy New Years and New Decade and many things in between, IDIOTS ! (except you, Tasha)
Decade begins with 2020.
Any other interpretation is stupid.
That's what I was thinking when I started this thread! :D On an interesting note, this Decade officially starts the 100th year of the Roaring 1920's Decade where young women decided they weren't going to sit around being good, demure girls just waiting for male suitors to marry like their Female Ancestors but were instead going to live up their lives, drink, smoke, cuss, dance, date multiple men, have lots of sex. Kind of like 2020, LMAO! :D
Damn, it just fully hit me that this is a Presidential Election Year. There have been talks of Hillary Clinton is running for President again in 2020, and she feels this time she just might be the first female President, especially since she made it to Election night and won The Popular Vote, just the Electoral Vote and those Benghazi Emails did her in.
Normally I would say there is 0.0% of this happening but we live in crazy times where anything can happen.
When Trump was first discussing running in summer 2015 I thought he had no chance at the time.
This century has been so crazy that if you tried to write a fiction book or movie in 1999 about everything that would actually happen in the 2000s, people would have said that its too unbelievable to publish.
Imagine telling people in 1999 that yeah, the 2000 election will be decided by 500 votes, the trade center will be destroyed by terrorists, we will invade Iraq again and also Afganistan (which will be the longest war in our history lasting over 20 years) we will get our first black president named Hussain Obama, then after him Donald Trump will be president, and Hillary couldn’t beat either a black guy named Hussain or Donald Trump. Oh and there will be a great recession in 2008 where housing prices will drop as much as 75% in some markets and many household name companies will collapse. Although almost all the big internet companies familiar to people in 1999 would have already collapsed in the earlier recession of the 2000s.
People would have thought you were crazy and yet here we are.....
Sometimes when I need motivation to get out of bed I do it by saying to myself “I wonder what kind of crazy $hit is going to happen now......”
I know I am hijacking my own thread, but I wonder, as we go into Donald Trump's THIRD year(I remember Social Media claiming he would) be impeached sometime in early 2017)if Donald Trump wasn't the right choice for President after all. I mean, the Economy actually IMPROVED with him as President, he actually attempted to smooth things over with at least one Enemy Country(North Korea), he didn't have big scandals before becoming President. I'll admit, I voted for Hillary Clinton because I wanted to see the first Female U.S President and because she is a Democrat like me. I honestly feel that had Hillary won nothing really would have changed for the better and she sud some really shady stuff(Benghazi being a really shady thing) . I remember at least one Poster saying something like,"I knew Congress wouldn't allow Hillary to become President. Hillary is really Corrupt, whereas Donald's record is relatively clean. It's not hard to see why Donald won The Presidency."
Mistake.
I had such high hopes for 2020 when I started this thread and it showed. 2020 turned out to be one of the worst years ever. Kobe Bryant and his young Daughter's Airplane crash deaths early this year was an Omen for how shitty this year would really be. Coronavirus, ensuing Economic Recession/Depression due to forced Shutdowns, George Floyd's sudden death by a Cop, ensuing Countrywide Riots, blood sucking Horse Flies, etc. This was a shitty shitstorm of a year.
Actually many people like MDawg have had great years so far. Nothing stopping people from enjoying life.
As for you, what did you expect the year to bring? New relationships? A marriage proposal? Promotion to Walgreens CEO? A better way to create socks without being caught?
Trust me, you aren’t the one bitching about the year, but unless you died life moves on. We all can have to deal with tragedy at any time so this is no different. As a wise man once said “You can get busy living or you can get busy dying”.
Get out there and enjoy the beautiful area you live in.
I was actually thinking that 2020 would be a good year since 1920 was such a good year. People in 1920 lived the good life, Women in general vwere able to vote and Young Women were also able to date around, drink, have lots of sex moke cuss, young Women were no longer supposed to be the "Good girls," who were Chaste and Pure and only had ONE boyfriend who she was supposed to marry. I thought 100 years later the world was going to be much better than the already great 2020. I was so so wrong.
