I cashed the ticket out and put it on the side hoping a person would remember and come back for it but no one did. So I approached who I thought was running that particular team and ask if had they been playing it, he said, "yes", and explain that he had just had a bigger jackpot. I proceeded to give him the ticket and said, "I think this is yours". The guy was highly appreciative and sure enough it was just as I expected as he went to explain that he was so excited he hit the jackpot that he didn't even realize he had money still left on the machine after he got his hand pay.
If you're an advantage player and you come up on a machine you want to play that has money on it you should probably just cash it out and put it on top of the machine.

In that spot a lot of guys would have emptied the hopper twice then walked to avoid the three fill check. But the way to make a lot of money is play the machine and take the handpays. In those days $400 jackpots and higher were handpays at Riverside. It was a 5X game so carried the right variance.
I can't remember if it was a two-coin or three-coin machine but if it was two-coin them I would be paying 10 cents per $2 spin on a game with about a 90% return. In other words, I'm going to crush it.
I thought about the long term implications of the play. Did I really want to take a chance on losing the Riverside just to make a quick score? I decided I didn't and called over a slot attendent.
When slot operations got out there I pointed the problem out and asked them to give me my $10 back. They said it would have taken them forever to figure out the problem, that I was an honest guy, and gladly refunded my $10.

I wasn't 100% sure who had this been on that particular machine, but I assumed it had to be one of the competing team members who hit the jackpot and forgot about the credits. I cashed the ticket out and put it on the side hoping a person would remember and come back for it but no one did. So I approached who I thought was running that particular team and ask if had they been playing it, he said, "yes", and explain that he had just had a bigger jackpot. I proceeded to give him the ticket and said, "I think this is yours". The guy was highly appreciative and sure enough it was just as I expected as he went to explain that he was so excited he hit the jackpot that he didn't even realize he had money still left on the machine after he got his hand pay.
If you're an advantage player and you come up on a machine you want to play that has money on it you should probably just cash it out and put it on top of the machine.

All valid common sense points, without emotion as always from you. Some people refuse to believe AP is possible and nothing you say or do will change some minds. How about AxelAss takes that $1,00.00 ticket and puts it in his pocket. If anyone comes up to him while he’s playing the machine, he could hand it off or say I didn’t want to lose the machine and was going to bring it to security when done.
Like he said in his bullshit post he guessed whose it was but had to seek out the team leader to be certain. Let’s say he didn’t seek him out right away and forgot about it. Now a week later lo and behold he finds the ticket at home. Then let’s say he breaks the code of AP honor and then offers a friend going to that casino later $200.00 to cash it for him.
According to a few active AP’s on these boards, they are willing to admit the hustling back-stabbing life full time AP’s live. Even you Mission and all other AP’s are just everyday hustlers. I don't know about this code of AP honor that you speak of. I'm certain that some AP's, and some non-AP's, would just take the ticket without a second thought. I'm sure some people wouldn't. I'm simply discussing the considerations that go into making the decision (outside of moral considerations) whether or not taking it is +EV or -EV.
I am an everyday hustler and I'm not at all righteous. I don't donate 25% of my winnings to churches, food banks or anything along those lines. I don't try to play +EV because I hate the casinos and what they do to certain people. I dislike some policies, but don't have a hatred for the broader industry such that I consider it predatory, at least, not any more predatory than innumerable others.
I think the problem that some people have is that they want the casino industry (both sides) to be this big underhanded affair. Sometimes, it is, but that doesn't make it any different than many other industries that you (and others) might consider legitimate. If you haven't already, you might want to read anthropologist Natasha Dow Schull's "Addiction by Design." It's the best gambling/social science book I have ever read. It'll get you up to date on the last 15 years or so of research and do it in an entertaining way. It spends a lot of time looking at the industry itself and in a fairly neutral way.
Also, and I mention this because part of this thread is devoted to the legitimacy of APs and all that. I was disgusted today as one offshore refused to allow me to deposit. I knew when I was put on hold a long time, it was a bad thing. It's one of the places I had SF to win the NFC last year, and they decided I am persona non grata. A few years back we were on a big play out of state where we encountered a competing AP team. What I mean by competing is the fact that there were only a couple really good machines for this particular play available also you know there's a limited amount of money the casino will give away before they change the rules.
On this particular play you would reach your goal and you yourself would be done for the day, so we would have to rotate in and out players on a couple of machines.
I want to sit down on one of the machines and lo and behold there was a large amount of money on there. I can't remember exactly how much, but I'm pretty sure it was around or over $1,000. I wasn't 100% sure who had this been on that particular machine, but I assumed it had to be one of the competing team members who hit the jackpot and forgot about the credits. I cashed the ticket out and put it on the side hoping a person would remember and come back for it but no one did. So I approached who I thought was running that particular team and ask if had they been playing it, he said, "yes", and explain that he had just had a bigger jackpot. I proceeded to give him the ticket and said, "I think this is yours". The guy was highly appreciative and sure enough it was just as I expected as he went to explain that he was so excited he hit the jackpot that he didn't even realize he had money still left on the machine after he got his hand pay.
If you're an advantage player and you come up on a machine you want to play that has money on it you should probably just cash it out and put it on top of the machine.

I think they pretty much always knew the Don Johnson thing was theoretically possible. There's actually a quite interesting documentary on Youtube that covers it. If you're interested and can't find it yourself, let me know, and I'll try to find it again. One of the keys to his overall plan (which was very multi-faceted) is that he'd established himself as being a mediocre Blackjack player, and according to him, actually was only slightly better than average. Once the trap had been laid, then he enlisted some help to learn the game perfectly. I found this pretty interesting because my immediate instinct was to pin all the blame on the casino execs, (and it still largely goes to them) but it turns out they were giving him the sort of perks that they'd have laid out for anyone else at that level; Johnson just knew how to exploit them.
I understand the point you're making about the claims, but from my perspective, Axelwolf hasn't made too much in the way of specific monetary claims. I'm not saying he's never made any, just that most of his claims are pretty vague in that regard. I don't know what the motivations are for KewlJ and Darkoz, because then all you end up getting into is having people (some might say detractors) wanting you to prove it. How are you going to do that? Posting your tax returns as well as a photograph of yourself holding up your state-issued ID next to your smiling face? I guess what I'm saying is that even if I was making bank---and I'm certainly not---I don't know what would compel me to get into financial specifics.
But, that's another thing: I imagine most AP's don't get into those kinds of specifics. There are probably innumerable people out there who read the various forums and Twitters, but you never hear a peep out of them. I even know a few AP's who either don't participate, or who have, but we haven't really seen them on the forums in years. Maybe they do the Twitter thing? I'm pretty lazy when it comes to following the gambling Twitter because I don't like the platform much for those purposes.
I would say I can understand where you're coming from, though I'd also suggest that your perspective is exaggerated. For instance, "PM Backdoor," is something that you make sound like this great underground nefarious thing added to the forums in order to facilitate these kind of dealings. While I haven't participated at any great number of non-gambling forums, I've participated at a few, and all of them have had PM functionality.
I also get confused by, "Rookie suckers." For example, the first time I met Axel, it was when I was going to Vegas (though we had spoken before that) and he compensated me to stop in a few casinos and do a simple task. It was all extremely upfront, go in, do x, get paid y. I would assume that it was profitable for him (at least, by expectation) to compensate me, otherwise, why else do it? Why would anyone offer anyone else money to do anything for them if the thing the person is doing is not expected to be profitable or to come with some other benefit? That just seems like common sense, to me.
So, it basically works like anything else. Is hiring someone to a job a, "Scam?" No. And, I would assume that if you're an employer the expectation is that what you will gain from the person's efforts (labor) exceeds what you are compensating them...at least, it must, or nobody would be able to stay in business.

Let me just correct Blackhole when it comes to a play being burned out.
True but unless is huge (Ivey Baccarat) then the burnout is usually localized.
Multi-carding for example suddenly may be discovered and cracked down at casino A. So you just move onto casino B. And from there casino C, etc.
A few years go by and sometimes you can even return to the old burned out casino. Unlike the AP, the average casino employee isn't concentrating on what some team did four years earlier. They may vaguely remember the details.
Even better, casinos have employee churning. They leave, new ones are hired.
So play burnout is an immediate issue but not necessarily long-term

If you're an advantage player and you come up on a machine you want to play that has money on it you should probably just cash it out and put it on top of the machine.
In that spot a lot of guys would have emptied the hopper twice then walked to avoid the three fill check. But the way to make a lot of money is play the machine and take the handpays. In those days $400 jackpots and higher were handpays at Riverside. It was a 5X game so carried the right variance.
I can't remember if it was a two-coin or three-coin machine but if it was two-coin them I would be paying 10 cents per $2 spin on a game with about a 90% return. In other words, I'm going to crush it.
I thought about the long term implications of the play. Did I really want to take a chance on losing the Riverside just to make a quick score? I decided I didn't and called over a slot attendent.
When slot operations got out there I pointed the problem out and asked them to give me my $10 back. They said it would have taken them forever to figure out the problem, that I was an honest guy, and gladly refunded my $10.
I was just protecting my own ass.
The most interesting one I found was on Bonus Run (Linked) so you could use the machine to advance the bonus meter on the other machines and snap it off there (a huge Advantage when the advanced meter was only one away sense you got $125 and that took very few spins to advance) never really bringing any fills or attention to the affected machine. There wasn't too many hand pay combination on that particular machine. It was good for a few days,unfortunately, not too long after, since it was Bonus Run it attracted Hustler's. There was this one really nasty three team Asian group we continually had problems with(it even got physical at one time) that demanded time on the machine, or they wanted us to run the meter up for them and sit out once we did so. They wanted us to do that for an entire shift or they would turn it in. Of course, we told him to F off. Because of that we were basically forced to take fills. Of course, we knew their fill check rules. For those who don't know, a fill check rule was x amount of Hopper fills per shift(usually 3) would trigger the slot attendant doing the fill to hit a test button that would spit out 10 coins and the attendant would proceed to count them to make sure it was accurate.
Obviously that wouldn't detect a bill validator problem, however, after so many fill checks they would call in a slot tech to shut down and check the machine. We caught wind that they actually eventually did turn it in and it didn't last that long. Had it not been for those nasty Asians the casino would have lost a significant amount on the other machines. Not sure exactly what it was worth per day, but I'm assuming somewhere around the $7,000 range.
