“So I am still sitting here on my balcony looking out at Vegas rather than out playing or doing anything else on probably the last of our beautiful days before summer really hits hard. I feel guilt about that, but am also enjoying the beautiful weather so...

Anyway. Pitbosses as morons. Lol.

Earlier this year I was playing off strip at a casino known for being very sweaty. No not the Spaniard place downtown, but there is a connection. So it was fairly early in the day and the $25 and $50 tables weren't open. So I was playing double deck at a $10 min table with one other player, a female between 35 and 45. ( I am not good at judging ages).

So this other player was spreading $10-$40. Really I only saw her bet $40 once, so she was effectively speading $10-$30. If she was max betting at $40, she was waiting too long to place that bet. As a matter of fact her whole bet ramp (when she placed the larger bets) was anything but optimal. Not even close. And her play wasn't very optimal either. Some strategy change index type plays weren't at the right numbers. She even made a few basic strategy mistakes. So nothing about her play was optimal. She was likely playing about a break even game at best.

So I was spreading $50-$300, but doing so in a manner that disguises my spread some, spreading both ways. Someone looking really has to see both negative counts and positive counts up to Maxbet to identify the whole spread.

So anyway, as you are probably guessing by now, after a couple shoes at this double deck game, Joe smoe, pit guy comes over and tells her she is not welcome to play blackjack anymore. She argues and such, which NEVER does any good, only makes you more memorable and then she glares at me. For a moment, I thought she was going to rat me out saying something about my play, but she didn't. She left.

So of course my point: This young lady was playing a break even game give or take with her effective $10-$30 spread and she was backed off. What morons!

AND I have seen a lot worse that that. I have seen players backed off that were no more counting cards that the man on the moon. They simply were varying wagers and Asian players do this A LOT. While sad it is also amusing because these players are genuinely confused when they are told they can't play.

Have these morons never experienced players increasing wagers because they are chasing losses? Never experienced players actually parlaying wins? Not every player varying wagers is a card counter. LOL”

While, logically, I have no qualms with the positing that somebody uses a card counting narrative to obfuscate income from various "entertainer" income streams, I have to think that acquiring details to support such a counter-narrative would be relatively easy. If there's no concrete details, it's all just rumors. Why bother with rumors?

Being a blackjack civilian, I have to ask, what was wrong with the pit-boss-as-moron story?

I know nothing about blackjack. But I have been shut down (or extremely limited; nobody actually shuts you down these days) for things I should never have been shut down for. Sometimes managers see ghosts when there's nothing to be afraid of.

Pit folks are like everyone else. There are all types, idiots to sharp. Generally it is fairly easy to get a quick read. The ones I am really on the lookout for are newer (usually younger) types that think they are scoring points by backing of a suspected counter, whether the person is actually a counter or not. You can usually spot these a mile away.

Otherwise it isn't so much whether they are a moron or not, most aren't moron, but they are just working guys trying to get through their day with as little problems and extra work as possible.

Now it so happens the story I shared that "hayseed" repeated here, the pit was a moron, because the lady was counting but absolutely no threat, probably playing a break even game. But see THAT kind of idiotic thinking doesn't even come from the individual pit critter. That is a casino involved mentality. There are a few casinos that just think anyone varying wagers is counting and backs them off. More than half are not even counting and of those that are, most are like this lady, playing a break even game, or just slightly +EV game. To give you an example, El Cortez is such a place. And so is the place in the story, which has "family ties" to EC, thus that same idiotic mentality.

But anyway, who knows what Hayseed is attempting to do here.

“ I know I am a relatively new member to this site, but this seems like the site to share my thoughts of Vegas after returning from a 2 week trip, so I am reposting a post I made from another site that I visit. My apologises for the redundancy for those that are members of both sites.

I grew up and lived my first 18 years in Florida by the ocean. It was a fantastic and fun place to grow up. After high school I moved to and lived in Philadelphia for 8 and a half year. I consider than my adoptive city. I still love and follow the sports teams and have many friends there that I miss dearly. Philly is a great place for a young person lo live. Many clubs and activities and always something going on.

I felt the pull of Vegas from my first trip six years ago and the day I moved to Vegas and stepped off the plane, I knew that I was truly home. I love this place. The excitement. The lights. The good and the bad. Residing here 2 and a half years has not diminished these feelings one iota. Returning from a 2 week trip last night, I think I started looking out the window for the bright lights somewhere around Denver. When I finally saw this desert paradise of neon that makes up the strip, my heart was racing like a school boy with a crush. I play less and less on the strip these days, but it I spend a great deal of time there. The excitement and bright lights of the strip is my home and I think it has been since long before I moved here. I feel so blessed to live here and be able to support myself in the manner that I do (playing blackjack). When I finally do see those bright lights, the feeling is well...orgasmic. The only thing that could make it better for me is if one of those big aluminum birds that we fly in, were somehow transformed into a time machine enabling me to visit the Vegas of 20, 30, 50 years ago that I romanticize about...just for a day. I know some of you don't share my feelings for Vegas, whether you live here or visit often and some of you down right despise the place. I truly hope that your home, wherever it may be, provides you with the same euphoric warm feelings that I have for Vegas.”

Part 3

We catch up with our hero pool strut aka Kewj telling a tale of philanthropy. The strip strutting gun nut passing out Fivers like candy’s enjoy

“Yesterday morning, my partner and I drove to Fashion show mall and walked the strip, donating 5 bucks to each panhandler. I included the musicians who had a donation jar, hat or box, but NOT the costumed type characters. That might be discrimination of the entrepreneurial costumed characters, but hey....my rules. Started with a pack of 100, $5 bills. We hit each of the 14 pedestrian bridges over the strip and side streets (Flamingo, Tropicana, Spring Mountain roads). The remainder of the walk south took place on the east side of the strip because it seems like their are more panhandlers that congregate on the east side than the west side of the strip, often sitting in the quad area, down through now closed Bill's, the area in front of Bally's is another popular area as well as further south between Planet Hollywood and MGM. At the completion of our journey I had only 11 bills remaining which I gave to the folks collecting money for the homeless. I really thought I would exhaust the supply of bills before we reached our journey's end, so that surprised me, but I should mention that this walk began at 10:30 on a Sunday morning. Might have been just a wee bit early for prime time. Perhaps and hour or two later and I would have run out of bills before panhandlers.”

Part 4 was too good not to post tonight

In this chapter our hero becomes the villain fantasizing about crossing the mythical one million dollar mark lolololololol then in the same post shows his play to angle shoot a family member. The EMFH team lol ahhahaahahah enjoy

“When I started writing this post, I mistakenly thought we were half way through the year and intended to share a bit of how my year was going, but it turns out May is only the FIFTH month of the year, not the half way point. I guess this shows that you don't have to be able to count (months) all that well to be a card counter. :rolleyes:

So very briefly, I ended 2016 on a bit of a 'back slide'. After touching the million dollar mark in career earnings, in late September and again, a week later, in early October, I spent the remaining 3 months on a bit of a negative variance run and finished 2016, more than 30k off that (meaningless) million dollar milestone. Early in 2017, I went on a positive flux run and went back over that mark. During the last month, including a horrible blackjack trip east, I have once again been sliding down hill as far as blackjack. However my two partners and I hit a low 6 figure score on a machine (non-blackjack), which still has me very significantly ahead for the year and above that meaningless milestone that I have been straddling.

But that isn't what I really wanted to talk about, although slightly related. Since my younger brother began his blackjack career, in 2015, I wanted to partner with him. He kept turning down, what is really a good offer for him.... and beneficial to both of us. I think he was afraid, he wouldn't live up to expectations.

Well, he agreed to partner our blackjack play at the start of this year, so we formed an (E)very (M)an (F)or (H)imself team. This is different than the blackjack teams of MIT, the movies and books. It is NOT a call-in, spotter/big player approach. What it is, is two or more players playing separately, at separate table, separate casinos, can be near by or half the world apart. But they combine results.

The benefit of the EMFH team is that it smooths out results, variance and those nasty swings that I have occasionally written about. I have had (4) different negative swings that lasted 6 months in my 14 year career. That's what you are trying to eliminate and minimize. The idea is that when one partner is going bad, in the midst of one of those negative flux periods, the other will hopefully be going well or more stable. Even in the rare event that both are going bad for a while, you still get to that "long run" faster. And that's really what it is all about....getting to the long run at which point the swings are less meaningful.

One of the 'pitfalls' of the EMFH team, just like any other blackjack team is "trust". Trust, was the downfall of many of the big blackjack teams. Blackjack is a game of huge variance (swings) and distrust is a human nature. When things are going bad, you tend to think the worst...."hey someone is skimming". For this reason I have turned down opportunities, real good opportunities to be involved in several teams and always remained a solo type player, or at times one partner, my spouse.

The reason, I am willing to partner with my brother is because I have complete trust in him. I hope and think, he does me as well. And THAT is the key. If you are going to form a team or partnership, and usually the partners combine bankrolls, you need complete trust. I would recommend a close family member or longtime friend. The saying goes that you shouldn't mix family and business, but because trust is so very, very vital, I think this is the exception. I mean that's assuming you really trust your family member. If you have a sketchy brother or cousin...steer clear. :D:eek:

I think the reason my brother finally accepted this offer is because for the last two years it seemed every time he was running bad, that I was running good, and vice versa. So we are not at the halfway point as I thought when I got the thought for this update, but 5 months in it is working just as planned. My bro is running a little ahead of EV or expectation, for the year and my recent downturn now has me a little under EV for the year. And so far, when one has been in a little downturn (as I am now) the other has been winning. Just the way it is supposed to work. Of course in this particular year, we both have the benefit of having been 2 of the 3 partners in that machine play score mentioned earlier, so that 'pads' both of our stats for the year.

So that is the two man EMFH team, for those that didn't know about it or how it works. And by the way, in my opinion, the EMFH team works best as a 2 or 3 man operation. Any more than that and you just are inviting trouble with that trust issue. Humans and distrust is a very powerfully inbred thing. You really need to stick to one or two people that you really trust.”

Am I supposed to be embarrassed by these posts from the past? I am not at all. Maybe a little sad that I have gotten away from caring about the homeless and donating a little time and money to help out. I used to volunteer at a homeless shelter here in Vegas, well North Vegas, but got away from that after my last heart surgery. Just never got back into it. Now, I take the easy way, like most people and just make a couple donations to a few charities I like at the end of every year. :(

Other than that, I feel pretty good about the posts being posted. This, sharing some of my experiences, hoping that other blackjack players may benefit, was always what I wanted to do on these forums. It is why I joined different forums. Unfortunately, that is not what forums are today. Instead, the trolls take over and start trolling and next thing you know you are doing nothing but defending yourself and then you grow jaded and start trolling back.

It is what it is, but thanks again for reposting some of my better posts sharing my experiences. Keep going, this is good stuff. :cool:

I never know what to make of this stuff. I operate on a level that's not going to terrify any sports book, and sports books never actually (well, almost never) ban anybody because you can just send beards in to do a man's job, so to speak. And sports bettors always try to expand their expertise, which 99% of the time leads them to going off the profitability rails, so the sports books figure they'll get us one way or another, if they're patient enough. And sports change, rules change, times change. So what worked in 1960 may not work in 2020. We aren't playing blackjack.

It must be very weird to be your everyday AP with your head down. Wasn't it DarkOz who wore a mask for a lunch meet-up? I have no idea what it must be like to go around with your livelihood on the brink every time someone is pissed off at you. And, really, how do you tell if anonymous posters aren't casino-affiliated?

Today, I married my long-time live in partner, best friend and business partner in typical Vegas fashion, at one of the many little wedding chapels with the ceremony performed by Elvis. And this wasn't an impersonator, I am pretty sure it was the real Elvis....ok maybe not.

I picked the 31st of October because Halloween has always been my favorite holiday. But even better, October 31 is also Nevada day, which for those of you who don't know, is a state holiday, the anniversary of Nevada statehood, which is most appropriate for me. For those of you who don't know me, I am all about Las Vegas and Nevada. I love this city with all my heart. I have only lived here 5 years, but knew this was my home, the moment I stepped off the plane during my first visit. I think I have neon running through my veins.

It was a small ceremony attended by only about 40 friends and family. My brother, who I have recently reconnected with over the last couple years after a decade apart, and who currently resides with me, served as my best man. My mother, who I have been estranged from until earlier this year, attended. My partner is 20 years my senior and has 3 grown children from his earlier marriage and 'straight life' and I was particularly pleased that 2 of them attended, as he is not all that close with them. Hopefully that will change. I had a handful of friends from Philadelphia, where I used to live that attended. They have been here all week, flying in a week early for the Life is beautiful music festival. And we had several friends and neighbors from here in Vegas, including two friends that work the pits here in Vegas. How ironic: two pit guys attending a professional card counter's wedding....Only in Vegas. :)

After the mid morning ceremony, we had lunch at one of my favorite strip casino buffets. It doesn't get any more Vegas than a buffet lunch celebration...lol. After wards, everyone went their separate ways to do whatever they do in Vegas, and I took a nap. Tomorrow we are hosting a pool party in the backyard watching football and barbequing. In lieu of gifts, we requested donations to my favorite Vegas charity Opportunity Village. A little side note about Opportunity Village that I recently learned: all of the scarves that Elvis used in his Vegas concerts were made from the folks at Opportunity Village. :)

Personally, I could have done without the formality of marriage. To me, what is important is the commitment of the two people involved, gay or straight, and I committed to this person some time ago. Dude you don't know what you are talking about. When I met my partner after I moved to Philadelphia in 2001, he was already divorced, and had been for a number of years. His wife had remarried so there was a stepdad in the equation. two of his three kids were 18 or 19, the other 9 or 10. And he didn't have much contact with them. Birthdays, Christmas, I remember 1 high school graduation, he went to. THAT was 2001-2002 when I met him. And we were platonic friends at that point, and roommates to cut expenses.

10 years later, in 2011, when he followed me by a year to Las Vegas, 2 of his three sons were full grown adults, and he didn't have much of a relationship with them. The youngest was still at home (I believe having graduated from high school and in first year of college) and he saw him periodically. So if I wrote "young sons" and I don't know that I did, but if I did, it was in error.

I had nothing to do with breaking up his marriage. That occurred years before I ever met him. So just stop your fucking lying, you sick pup.

And the dude was on disability for a very bad back, having had I don't know how many operations, on the day I met him and remained so until he passed. At the time he passed he received just over $1000 a month in disability. I mean this is the person you think I seduced for his money? I never took a dime from this man and in the end when he passed, it cost me money, because I distributed some money to his kids. I figured he helped me earn some money handling our video poker play, so I wanted to return that to his kids.
