Vice story on Vegas Dive Bars

I’ve been in over half of these but a couple I had never heard of before such as “Play it again Sam”. The Aztec is definitely one of the worst I’ve been in. The new Atomic probably doesn’t even belong on the list anymore, it’s more of a hipster hangout with all the craft beer.

Champagnes isn’t much of a dive either in my book. I was in a shitty bar years ago between Strat and downtown inside a motel but can’t remember the name. It was Spanish or Caribbean or something like that.

Frankie’s probably should be on the list, same owner as Double Down, just a different concept.

I thought Play It Again Sam was a strip club on Spring Mountain.

I had just gotten into town one weekend and was having trouble finding a reasonable room. I walked by the Aztec and thought, what the hell, I'll try there. At the desk, management said yeah, they had a room, and price was right (I looked a little rugged in my youth, I guess). I said I needed to see it first, so they took me to see it. There's people strewn about on the ground in front of the rooms, and the guy shows me my room. A dude is passed out in the doorway, and there is no door. It's off the hinges laying to the side. I said, "Hey, I don't require much, but I really do need a door."

So I never stayed at the Aztec. Cool place, though.

Yes, I didn't know if Axel's Aztec Bar was the one at the Aztec Casino. That's the place.

I hadn't really thought about it before, but I would have to rate the rooms I saw at the Aztec as below The Western. I cannot believe I'm saying that, but it was true.

LOL. The last time I stayed at The Western, they put me in a room right behind the big generator, so I couldn't really hear anything. The next morning I woke up to the maids saying, "Look at all that blood!"

So I open my door and, yeah, there was a boatload of blood spattered around the walkway in front of my room. Wasn't there when I went to sleep. No body, though.

Is it just me or does every dive bar in Vegas have the crazy homeless guy in the parking lot?

I went to the Dive Bar a couple weeks ago. Wow. 2 guys broke out grappling in the middle of the bar. Really outside of the person I was with I don't think anyone looked like a functional member of society.

Yeah, I know that place well enough, as I used to live in the Naked City behind the Strat near Fairfield and St Louis. I walked/rode by that bar on my way to work. One of my former coworkers/friend Phil was a bartender there, I stopped in there from time to time to chat with him. At one time we had a little sports betting partnership. I think Phil worked there until it closed down and I lost track of him after that.

I'm not sure if I would call it a cool place, it's just one of many shithole bars in Las Vegas.

I have lots of guns and TBH I never shoot them without being drunk. It is kinda boring sober? I mean I don't drink much so I don't shoot my guns much either.

I once almost shot my foot with a tracer round from an AK47 but that was about the worse.

If everyone is drunk then that would mean they're all assholes for hanging out with each other.

Secondly, not everyone gets that stupid with a few cocktailss in them. Laughing and kinda stupid but not stupid enough to ever point the gun in someone's direction. If your drunken friends can't handle that then you probably should find different drinking friends.
