Earthing. (sometimes called grounding)

First I am posting this here because I am in Las Vegas :D and Dan Druff recently re-affirmed that the Las Vegas forum is pretty much the "general forum".

So I started having some back discomfort late last year. I am not at all overweight, but am in my 40's and that is about the time everyone starts having back pain. :rolleyes: Finally went to the doctor the first of the year and he thinks it is because I am not nearly as active as I used to be, spending much of many days siting at computer making sports picks and then watching games on TV and much less time than I used to out playing in casinos. So he sent me to physical therapy for 6 weeks and suggested I get back to a move active lifestyle.

So PT, really didn't help at all. I am not in agony or anything, like my late partner was with his major back problems, just some discomfort some days or parts of some days. I still am able to do everything I want.

So about a month ago, just as I was finishing up my PT course, I saw a show on Earthing. Which is sometimes called grounding. Anyone familiar? The concept is that there is electrical currents throughout the human body that makes different things work. That is not really a concept, but rather a fact. That is why electrical shock can re-start the heart. Also a fact is that the earth contains electric currents, I guess from all the lightning strikes as well as something to do with the Sun.

So the conceptual part is that somehow we (humans) benefit by connecting to the earth everyday. This has to be direct skin on earth contact. Most people into earthing do so by walking barefoot for 30 minutes or longer, although there are some fanatics that think you should get naked and roll around in the grass. I am just going with the walk barefoot for 30 minutes. :D

So one of the supposed benefits is the reduction in inflammation throughout the body with is the root of most pain and sicknesses. If you haven't picked up on it by now, I was and remain skeptical. :rolleyes: BUT, I have been at it for 3 weeks, about 30 minutes a day, and whether phycological or placebo effect, or whatever, I am feeling less discomfort, some days almost none. :D

If you research Earthing, you will come across a guy named Clint Ober, who comes across as a bit of a nut. But I am trying to keep an open mind. I will keep you posted as to if "earthing" is the miracle cure for all things. :D

I broke my back in a wreck in college (T-3 compression fracture) and the sawbones gave me a hand out for daily stretching exercises telling me to do them or else.

I've done them, and added on and am glad I did: I am pretty active anyway, going to the health and fitness center six days a week for light weight and cardio work, plus I ride my bike year round and walk the 'hood before going to bed.

I took yoga classes and now incorporate some yoga plays with my morning stretching exercises.

It's worked...my point: exercise daily if you want your body to work correctly; this "earthing" sounds interesting but it can be no substitute for old fashioned daily workouts but might be a helpful addition.

I was in no way suggesting something like "earthing" as a substitution for exercise and fitness. Without a doubt my move to a less active lifestyle is what has caused my hopefully temporary problem and being more active and exercise (which I usually do pretty regularly) is the path back.

It is just you see different shows or read things and say "yeah I'll give that a try". And so I am. :cool:

Funny story - an ex-boss.. if you would call him that believed in this. Someone early on warned me about "Do you know what he believes?" and I didn't heed him. The bare-footed dude turned out to be a retard in many ways but one whom did ok via grift due to a lucky positioning.

Earthing? Just do your damn stretches and strengthen your core and buy a new mattress. Unless you had a bad accident, or a job that involved heavy lifting for years, or are a woman who birthed children, chronic back pain is not the norm for people in their 40s. I exercised, stretched and went swimming all before I made a single post today. Also ran about 50 simulations of todays games.

I am not a big believer in heating pads. It feels good but does nothing to really solve any problem you might be using it for. Same thing with medications that mask pain. Now I will take ibuprofen because taken in doses of 600 MG it reduces inflammation. But I won't take it every day. I prefer a natural inflammation reducer like Turmeric. Turmeric really has A LOT of health benefits and almost no one incorporates turmeric into their diet. I use both root powder and supplement. And I am not a big supplement guy, but really got to consume more turmeric. Everyone should.

I am not familiar with Gary Brecka, but that was an informative podcast and a fair representative of everything I have read and seen. Non-believers can doubt and call it quackery, but there is some definitive science behind it that you can literally see results of and changes (for the better) at the cellular level.

I am not sold of the idea of earthing/grounding mats or even sheets for your bed that they have available. They supposedly work by plugging into an outlet that is grounded. That sounds a little more far-fetched to me, plus I don't like the idea of monetizing the concept. So for now, I am just going with get out, take my shoes off and spend 20 minutes a day walking in the grass. And if it turns out there are no benifits....nothing lost.

It just seems very reasonable to me that there are benefits to connecting more with nature. Getting some fresh air. Getting some vitamin C directly from sunlight. It is all connected.

As you know, I have a friend that works at one of the majors and he knows everything going on at the strip both at his casinos/chain and not associated with his casino/chain. If there is a higher end player that is losing or even perceived to be playing -EV, every casino knows and would like to get a piece of him. If there is a higher end player winning or perceived to be playing with an advantage, every casino knows and is on the lookout for that player.

I don't hear about all of it, but he knows as does every other person in management at these casinos. My friend only shares with me things that might effect me like a team of APs or card counters circulating which could have consequences for me and my brother because every casino gets tight during such a period. But he knows every time a higher end player is winning or losing. EVERY TIME!

For Mdawg to think that every casino wouldn't be aware and communicating this kind of information, again, shows a complete lack of understanding of how things work.

Even if he is just the losing higher end player that most of us believe he is, he should have figured out that such a player is NOT anonymous up and down the strip. At levels I play while playing anonymously (unrated) it is hard to not be known. It is actually more about not rocking the boat that tricking anyone. But at the levels this Dawg person is claiming, it can't be done, let alone for 7 years now. :D. There is as much chance as 18 y.o. s in a row, or as much chance as Singers claims. It is just fantasy!

You can chose to believe anyone's claims you want or not believe anyone's claims you want, but lets get back to reality as to how things work. If you are going to AP Las Vegas, you have to work at it and that includes playing limits where you won't be known and on the lookout for up and down the strip!! I am not a big believer in heating pads. It feels good but does nothing to really solve any problem you might be using it for. Same thing with medications that mask pain. Now I will take ibuprofen because taken in doses of 600 MG it reduces inflammation. But I won't take it every day. I prefer a natural inflammation reducer like Turmeric. Turmeric really has A LOT of health benefits and almost no one incorporates turmeric into their diet. I use both root powder and supplement. And I am not a big supplement guy, but really got to consume more turmeric. Everyone should.

I am not Asian, despite the lies stated here. So if turmeric is being used in Asian and other cultures for health benefits, great for them. They usually are ahead of us in many of these types of things. And if I can learn something and pick up something from these types of cultures, I will do so.

Our Western culture and diet leads to many health issues that other cultures don't have or don't have to the extend we do. Many of these issues, diseases, ect, extensive inflammation is a root cause of, including cancers and dementia and just many things. The western medical establishments answer to inflammation is take 3 Advil (ibuprofen). 2 is not even enough. You need 600 milligrams 3-4x a day for inflammation fighting/reducing properties. Taking that much ibuprofen that often has other major side effects.

That is actually our whole medical culture now. Take a pill for this. Then side effect pops up and take another pill for that. Pills and medication are chemicals. They are poison. They are not the answer, unless you are dealing with a severe specific issue. And they should not be the first answer.

There are things, nutrients, foods in nature that fight inflation and disease naturally. Just many of these healthy things aren't part of the carb rich American diet, so Americans don't get enough. And turmeric is right there at the top of the list. Make no mistake, turmeric doesn't taste good or at least I haven't adapted to the taste. I try to mix it in with pudding, applesauce, soup, occasionally make a tea. But it is bitter and you can't cover that up. So in addition to trying to incorporate more turmeric in my foods, I take a supplement, which I am not big on.

I sincerely believe more turmeric in the diet will be beneficial to everyone. And if that puts my catching up to Asian cultures that already know and understand this....so be it. I am happy to be joining the club.

Aha, but notwithstanding my regular use of weed I am happily married, in good physical and financial shape, etc.

Spent the night at Chinook WInds last night, visiting my Navy vet buddy (post-heart surgery), watching a local theater put on a play, and of course gambling.

As is my wont I smoked weed while there, with no negative consequences.

+ $530.00 winnings for the trip.

Oh yeah...I don't drink, but hey that claim by you is as valid as your claimed wins.
