Bubble Craps at Harrah's Ak-Chin -- Unusual Features

Last weekend I went to Phoenix with the wife to watch some baseball Spring Training games. We stayed at Harrah’s Ak-Chin. This is a tribal casino located in a suburb about 45 minutes south of the Phoenix airport. It has no live craps. But it does have one Bubble Craps machine. I don’t mind Bubble Craps as a substitute for real craps, primarily since I can then play the Don’t without feeling like a skunk at a picnic since no one can easily see your bets.

As I played the machine, after the come out I put $10 on the passline odds, then $12 each on the six and eight. I then tried to add $5 on the come box but was only able to place a single dollar. WTF? I then noticed signage on the machine I have never seen on any other machine. As you can see below, there are three sentences just below the craps layout: (1) “$35 Max bet per roll”; (2) “If total bet exceeds $35, off chips cannot be turned on”; and (3) “Bets exceeding $35 do not repeat after a win.”

As I experimented with the machine I came to see that I could only put up to $35 in new bets every roll. But I could keep adding up to $35 each time. If I hit the point, then as usual all the bets turn off (except for the base come bets) on the new come out. But if one already had more than $35 in previous bets, they do not all automatically turn one on the subsequent rolls. You can certainly turn such “off bets” on by touching them again, but I was not clear what the default was. Eventually as rolls continue, the automatically off bets do turn on.

It would seem to be in the interests of the casino to take all your action. Sometimes the limit helped me because in case of an immediate “Seven out” all my previously placed bets were not in action. Of course, it hurt if the roll was a temporarily dormant bet.

Even on Saturday night when most Bubble Craps stations in Vegas and Lake Tahoe are crowded, there was always at least a seat on this machine. I wonder if this feature reduced the demand for the game

Does anyone have any idea why the limit on new bets? Does any other place have such restrictions? .

Another odd feature I found was that after fifteen rolls by the shooter, a green light bathed the machine. I did not notice it myself but another player pointed it out to me. After about 20 rolls, the light switched to red. Here are two photos below: one is green mode and one in red.

Does anyone know if these color schemes exist on other Bubble Craps machines or just at Ak-Chin? Additionally, does anyone know if color schemes exist other than green and red?

I’ve nevrr experienced the max bet thing you’re describing. That seems odd and likely Phx Ak-Chin specific, or at least rather rare. My guess is they got beat up on the game and got scared.

I’ve also never experienced the red/green light thing, although I think that’s a pretty cool feature. Was there anything in the game rules about it? Does it go to a different color after 30, 40, 50+ rolls?

It would seem to be counter-productive for Ak-Chin to have a betting limit on a machine. I don't know if the text of the "game rules" explain the colors as I did not try to open and read the menu. I would have loved to find out if the colors were different after 30, 40, 50+ rolls, but alas was never on such a monster.

Red color is Hot shooter feature, 20 CONSECUTIVE ROLLS OR MORE without a Red 7; Blue 7’s are okay.

It stays Red regardless if you have 20, 30, 40 or more consecutive rolls without a Red 7.

Forgot to add that the Green light means the shooter made his point.
