As far as the military, this is the main function of a government from a conservative standpoint - to protect its citizens. Obviously, there is no right answer on how big the military should be. But a conservative knows no matter how big or small the military is, a liberal Democrats will always try to take money away from it to support one of its goofball liberal projects, or just use this money for handouts to some fringe group to get their vote.
Democrats have no principles. Look at Bill Clinton. He stuck his finger in the wind (took polls) everyday to figure out which side he should be one.
