John Wick 3 (the first two were great too).

John Wick 3 (the first two were great too).
I watched them both for free but I would hardly put them on the great list.
Something to watch if nothing else to do.
The man can't get killed. Reminds me of the A Team TV Series.
In that TV Series the opposition would fire thousands of bullets missing everyone but The A Team fires one shot or throws a punch and wins.
Loved the A Team though lol!
Not too many movies to choose from these days.
Hollywood has gone digital with CGI and good stories with great acting is a thing of the past.
I love the John Wick movies. Reeves can really shoot, and it shows.
Flipped around and caught Meet Joe Black once again.
Damn movie has an amazing soundtrack.
It is sort of like going to the Symphony and watching a 3 hour movie.
I've watched this movie many times since it came out in 1998 but it gets better with time.
You have to be in the right frame of mind and had enough age or life experience to appreciate it.
Of course that is all subjective but it is hard not to enjoy the perfection of the last 25 seconds with the perfect Fireworks Scene.

I saw one yesterday with Ethan Hawke involving time travel that was excellent. It was called Predestination.
Spoiler Alert in my post about Gattaca!
If you haven't seen the movie, this is your Spoiler Alert Warning!
You had me at Time Travel.
I looked it up and it seems to be a Dark Sci-Fi Movie.
I doubt it can be as good as Gattaca but it has 7.5 User Review Ratings so I will have to check it out tonight.
I love at the end of Gattaca when Jude Law says he is going on a trip too lol.
Yeah... a trip to the Oven!
Thanks for the heads up as I haven't seen this one.
I'll check back with my thoughts in a few days.
I enjoy most movies dealing with Time Travel.
I got hooked long ago on a short lived TV Series called Voyagers!
I remember watching this movie a few times and enjoying it.
Guys built a time machine in their garage and moved it to a storage unit.
The movie has a few free youtube sites... here is one of them.
PRIMER
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_HHnXeMWT0&t=212s
Hi Monet, I have seen Gattaca and Primer. However I remember Gattaca more vividly as I had seen it more than once. I enjoyed both movies, but, I liked it better than Primer. Hopefully you will like Predestination as much as I did and I look forward to your opinion of it once you've seen it.
You bastard!
I feel like I got set up on this movie.
15 to 20 minutes into the movie and I am about to dismiss it and shut it off.
However, I have to continue because tableplay has this under a movie reco.
39 Minutes into the Film and I am having a difficult time with the premise or subject matter.
We are basically into some sort of modern day Transgender Agenda that Hollywood continues to push with their Liberal SJW Bullshit.
Other than that egregious plot line, my first impressions were mixed as we get into some bad writing or acting from two unknown agents.
After the first line I immediately think of the 2009 movie "The Box".
2 minutes into the film and I get this feeling of the 1998 Film "Dark City".
Small notion of 12 Monkeys.
A few other films come to mind like "In Time" or "Equilibrium" as I am watching the first 5 minutes or so.
I start to get flashes of "The Hunger Games" from the female lead in this movie who was in the movie "Steve Jobs".
Most of the Hunger Games was a horrid movie anyway.
Only the parts at the end with Donald Sutherland and the Totalitarian Government were worthwhile.
Figures that "Oddball" would be involved in a movie about Total Government Control.
I've had some time now as I paused the movie to type up this report or post.
I suppose I can stomach a few minutes more to see where this all goes.
User Reviews are ranked decent enough but it is rare that I would miss out on a great movie for 6 years.
The whole bar scene with the 30+ minute backstory is difficult to listen to.
On the upside, the movie is about 97 minutes so they will get to the point and I can try to suffer through another 60 minutes.
I finished it anyway.
To sum it up, the movie is basically "Looper" and "Jumper" with a Transgender/Hermaphrodite Self-Incest spin.
IMO, Looper is the better movie and Jumper is the worst... by far, Jumper is the worst of these three.
Which is saying a lot since Jumper doesn't have some sort of twisted Transgender message.
Plenty of other similar movies come to mind when watching this like "Inception" which is way ahead of any of the films I listed in both posts.
You also get a feeling of "Daybreakers"... well this is because it is the same directors/writers and lead actor so you have that.
Sometimes I can't believe I actually watched "Daybreakers" as vampires are not my forte.
In the end, the movie was difficult to push through and not something I would own or re-watch.
PRIMER is way the best movie out of the time travel movies listed.
Even if you think you understand it you probably don't.
They have 20 minute breakdowns of the movie Primer on Youtube.
That movie is more mind bending.
Just my opinion or review though, which doesn't mean diddly sqaut.
Fair enough Monet. I'm sorry you didn't like it. I didn't think of the transgender angle - but that is true, Hollywood is trying to push that stuff (i.e. normalize that shit) and I had not kept that in my mind as I watched it. What I liked was the circular nature of it and the revelation at the end that it is all the same person. Maybe I was just in a good state of mind when I watched it and I would have not liked it as much under other moods.
Time Cop and Millenium were a couple others that you may have seen already. They weren't all that great (Time Cop was especially mediocre), but they fit the genre. I liked Time Bandits even though it is silly.
Time Bandits has some heavy hitters!
It's a Terry Gilliam movie so can't be all that bad.
I seen it a couple times around the ages of 7 to 10.
I liked it!
I guess a more off the beaten path of his movies is "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" which is watchable for me.
Fear and Loathing is a constant movie I replay... especially if I take too much.
It's the one movie that makes me want to sniff Ether but I keep fighting the urge.
Disclaimer:I have not seen the full movie and I have weird taste. I am probably the only person who likes the part of this movie I did see. I will watch the whole thing if it gets rebroadcast on the Thrillers channel of Pluto TV.
"Only God Forgives"
Alright Mr Play!
If I seen this movie I sure don't remember any of it.
It does feel like I seen it but that doesn't prove anything.
Have to watch it now but looks like a movie I need to purchase the DVD to enjoy with the Uncle.
I like when the guy takes the bribe (1:58) and Matthau asks for his money clip back!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NX-TqWefqRQ
I am pretty sure I seen this movie once and forgot it.
I will give it another go and report back eventually.
Thanks for the tip on Always Monet. I enjoy John Goodman's movies so I will check it out.
Best, tp.
I think the love of this movie will depend on the individual.
I have a sentimental attachment to it for many reasons.
I watched it over and over when I was 13 to 16 years old.
I enjoy Richard Dreyfuss in movies even though I think he worships the devil.
Can't prove that last statement but he is a Master Mason.
He was made a Master Mason "at sight" by the Grand Master of Masons of the District of Columbia at the Washington DC Scottish Rite building.
Anyways, I like his quirkiness on camera and it is usually the same sarcastic acting that he does.
The movie also hits home with me with the music and I always enjoyed that song by the Platters, Smoke gets in your eyes.
This movie is also heavily wrapped around Aviation which I enjoy tremendously.
Comedic Love Story with a young Holly Hunter who has great charisma and energy in the movie.
You also get a great scene with Audrey Hepburn and some nice camerawork.
I think most younger people won't enjoy the movie or it will be too slow and corny for them.
You either have to have a lot of attachments to this movie or just love watching movies.
An individual may have to be in the mood for this type or style of movie as well for it to resonate.
I could see how you could watch it today and be bored to tears and change the channel.
Perhaps 6 months later you are in a different mood and try again and love it.
You know how these things go.
Monet, I appreciate the excellent insight. Might I recommend The Great Waldo Pepper then if you haven't seen it. It has been many years since I watched this aviation classic. Unfortunately, as you know, Hollywood is full of devil worshipers and, as you also already know the things they do in the act of that worship are far beyond what we would call evil. I doubt a person can even become a big star in Hollywood unless they are compromised in this fashion. There is no need for me to get into specifics since you know exactly what I mean and have equal hatred of it.
Here's one we watched, yesterday. A "visitor" from Cuba helped to fill in some of the blanks. Enjoy.

Found an 80s movie I can't remember or never seen.
Haven't watched it yet but it is now on the list.
Hard to beat anything that Vangelis is involved in.
A Year of Living Dangerously (1982)...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vsBOxDM_Vek
Here is something interesting or at least I think is interesting.
I watched the first 30 minutes and it seems clear that Joe Rogan hasn't watched many of his movies.
So far he has just gone round and round with the same basic questions about Platoon.
I feel like he really missed a great opportunity here with this interview.
It's sort of like having Orson Welles, Marlon Brando or Mel Brooks on your show.
I did learn a few things that I didn't know and it's kinda embarrassing to admit I didn't know this about Oliver Stone.
He was actually in Nam and did 3 months extra on his tour.
That has to put him well above his competition with that level of experience.
He wrote Scarface (1983) and partied with the actual criminals.
I am sure that I will find more things that I didn't know or realize about Stone as I finish the long interview.
I've always enjoyed Salvador over Platoon but not by much.
I relate more to Richard Boyle compared to Sgt. Barnes.
James Woods is really good in Salvador and the first time I watched that movie it was a good ride for me.
Funny how they came out in the same year and basically Salvador tanked while Platoon won all the awards.
Also funny how they basically lied, cheated and stole their way to get these movies made on shoestring budgets.
The nice thing about the Salvador DVD is you can get the director, Oliver Stone, taking you through the whole movie which I find enjoyable.
Earlier DVDs do that where they have the director or actors watching and talking about the whole movie.
Groundhog Day has a great version of that with Harold Ramis.
I'm guessing Platoon does this as well but it seems I lost my DVD copy so will have to buy another one and check it out.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOrOYUxzX3o&t=2095s
I have not seen Salvador Monet. I think James Woods is a great actor so I will try and see it. Best Seller was one I really liked that had James Woods in it. Did you see the movie Real Genius ? I thought that one was extremely funny (and realistic).
I seen Best Seller a couple times.
Hard not to like how quick James Woods is.
I seen Real Genius 20 or so odd times.
Funny popcorn scene.
Those are the days of Top Secret.
That's Val Kilmer when he was in his prime...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogKqQc4q6y0
So I added to the DVD collection and watched a few of these yet again.
Turns out I have seen Hopscotch many times but forgot about it.
Enjoyable movie to veg out to and love the music/soundtrack.
Looking forward to listening to the directors/actors break down of Platoon as that's a bonus feature.
I watched Only God Forgives last night or I should say Re-Watched it.
I seen it when it first came out on DVD but kinda forgot about it or dismissed it.
Supposedly it has an interconnection with the movie DRIVE.
It's not a bad movie if you can get past the disturbing gore or subject matter.
Not a pleasant story as it deals with the underworld and how Evil it is.
The cinematography is amazing though with all the vibrant colors and camera shots/angles.
It's basically a story of Good and Evil.
It has some ugly incest themes but that goes along with this lifestyle they are portraying on film.
I started to watch the Directors break down of the movie afterward but didn't finish.
Looking forward to more of that as he breaks everything down as he watches the movie with you and gets interviewed.
Actually that DVD has a bunch of bonus features of interviews and behind the scenes.
He stated that Executioners existed for some time in Thailand and that is what this is about.
I guess they moved to guns as it was more humane but for this film he thought the blade was a better touch.
Can't remember watching Charlie Varrick before but it is exactly the same style as Hopscotch with some difference.
Not sure if I seen Road to Utopia before but probably did and it was a bargain so bought it.
Secret Window is another easy movie to figure out but the last few minutes come together nicely and I get a good laugh from it.
Looking forward to the Love Movie with Mel Gibson as I can't recall it.
I probably seen it but forgot it so it makes it like a new movie for me.
Currently Playing the 100k Sunday Tournament on WSOP Poker so had some time to post this finally.
I haven't seen Love Movie before Monet. Mel Gibson is one of the few Hollywood actors, who, like James Woods, doesn't seem compromised, and is outspoken against all the shit that goes down in that city. I remember going to the movies and watching Highlander when it was still playing. After the movie I thought that it was really enjoyable and was glad I watched it. Not too long after that, the movie was gone from the theaters and I had heard that it was a commercial failure. At that time I was like, WTF, this movie was great. Sure enough, in later years the movie became a cult classic and several Highlander movies and a TV series were made. None of the other movies or TV series was able to capture the magic of the first movie. In retrospect, perhaps the first movie was poorly promoted or something and so it became a sleeper during its initial release in the theaters.
Good luck in the tournament.
True, even though I seen all the Highlander Movies a few times over.
However, the TV Series on USA was pretty good and ran for 6 seasons with Adrian Paul.
I tuned in for most of those episodes and the intros were always jacked up with that music and sword fights!!
There can be only one!
We can't fight here we're on Holy Ground.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDjsTS5PATo
You're not wrong.
The first one was really good IMO.
I love when the bad guy is screaming with the girl in the car lol.
3:33 on the video below lol.
The next 4 movies were pretty bad but somewhat watchable to me.
I guess they made 2 more that I didn't see as they have 7 total.
The first one with James Bond was good but like you say it got pulled out of the theaters after the first weekend.
I placed in the tournament.
I'm sure you and the rest of the forum knows this...
It's funny how those tournaments have so much room for skill in the early rounds.
Once you make the money its pretty much an all in fest.
Once you get near the final table you have some room again for skill but those blinds will murder you!
Not a bad beat story and I probably could of waited but I attacked the Big Blind from the Small Blind with 22 for 75k all in.
Blinds were 2500/5000.
He snapped called me with K10 off and flopped a 10... game over.
I didn't wear a mask or goggles at my computer if you were wondering.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuS2JDtwPXY
Great job in the tournament Monet, glad to hear you did well. In Highlander 2, it wasn't clear to me how Ramirez came back since of course he was beheaded in the first one and I started watching the 2nd one after whatever scene it was that explained or showed how he came back (it was on Pluto TV a few days back). Michael Ironside and John C. Mcginley were perfect for their roles in that 2nd movie. I saw the 3rd one some years ago. In that one I remember there was some other dimension or plane of existence where there was some sort of theocracy of Immortals - I remember the Kurgen praying there. I can't really remember much else of it.
Caught the movie Gorky Park on Epix2 last night.
I love the music and miss the 80s!
I'm not exactly recommending this movie as it is good and bad but for me its something I grew up with and enjoy the nostalgia.
The storyline bothers me a bit with the last 30 minutes and this movie is over 2 hours.
I also have a problem with all of them speaking perfect English but when they write it's all done in Russian and they even overlay English over the Russian words lol.
My last beef is they filmed it in Helsinki and Stockholm as the crew was denied access to Moscow and the real Gorky Park.
All that being said I still enjoy the movie for what it is lol.
Love seeing the old CCCP stuff.
Love all the Volvo and boxed cars of that era.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2XO39vz01M
I will have to re-watch that one at some point. It's been many years since I saw it and have completely forgotten most of it - I remember enjoying it at the time. Along the swords and sorcery vein, I saw the movie Solomon Kane a few weeks ago. For a low budget movie it wasn't bad at all and seemed to leave room for a sequel.
Since you enjoy John Goodman movies, might I recommend Barton Fink? It is a little known Cohen brothers movie. John Goodman is great in it.
It is sort of a strange movie, people either love it or hate it, but if you read between the lines it is a send up of Hollywood and some really funny scenes about how movies get made.
Might as well stay on my 80s theme as I always do lol.
This movie is one of my favorites because I watched it over and over and over from 1987 to 1989.
Hadn't watched it since but they have been playing it a lot on my movie channels.
I think Encore.
Anyways, many people don't like it but I love it.
I can watch it every day that I see it in the TV Listings.
I guess it brings back my school day memories as I played organized Football, Basketball and Baseball up till 11th grade.
Interesting combination/comedy/drama with Mork and Wyatt Earp.
The Best of Times (1986)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6M7l9IULxM
Yes that one was pretty funny. I would say my favorite movie with Kurt Russell in it was Escape From New York. Really one of my favorite movies period. John Carpenter's The Thing was also terrific IMHO. I remember some funny movies (in a kid's eyes since I watched them as a kid) Kurt did in the 70's like the Strongest Man in the World and the related The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes. Robin Williams did a good job in Good Will Hunting and Fisher King I thought.
Not a movie but I was going through some 80s and 90s songs just now as I miss that era...
This video and song is pretty powerful in my opinion.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOllF3TgAsM
Now this next album was released in 1983 but people have no clue.
They think it was in the 90s or early 2000s and others think it sounds like the 60s.
It is truly a great album that seems to cross over many eras.
I still love to listen to it today in 2020.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JE-d...tiLm5wqujdbQ_z
As a senior in high school in the mid 80's, I remember that our graduating class was so apathetic that one of the other classes (juniors IIRC) won the homecoming float contest which normally the school awards to the senior class (I heard about it from a friend) by default . But since only a very very small percentage of Seniors showed up and participated in making the float and cheering it on, they had no choice but to award it to a different class.
Many people from that era just got on with it - I'm glad I was part of that (fuck participation awards and group think).
Wasn't a big Bush fan, but Glycerine was one of the best songs of the 90s.
Movie reco: Tenet (2020)
Not sure how I missed this movie from 2009.
Caught it today on one of the movie channels.
Based on a True Story.
The musical score and slow methodical burn could hypnotize you into an emotional breakdown.
97% chance of eyes watering.
I was fine till my wife decided to cut up a bunch of onions in the kitchen.
Screw You Hollywood and your damn powers over emotional feelings!
And your never ending use of Richard Gere in Dramas.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIl2o1hm1F4
Thanks Monet. I caught some of No Mercy yesterday (on the free over-the-air Movies! channel) which had Richard Gere in it as luck would have it. It seemed OK, but I am mentioning it only because of the coincidence of your reco having the same person as a main character in the movie.
MeTV has been running this show on Saturdays for awhile now.
I got the complete DVD Set of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century today.
The first episode has the James Bond Style Intro and feels a bit more like a TV Movie.
A Great TV Movie IMO.
That episode was enjoyable and this show has William Conrad's voice along with Mel Blanc.
Gil Gerard reminds me of Robert Urich and I've always been a fan of them both.
Erin Gray... Nuff Said!
The next episode is "Planet of the Slave Girls" and features Jack Palance!
It also has Buck Rogers from 1939 meeting Buck Rogers from 1979!
1939: "I've been doing that sort of thing since before you were born, Captain."
1979: "You think so, huh?"
1939: "Young Man... I know so."
You can find these on ebay and I got mine for 30 dollars in like new condition.
Really happy with it.
After researching a bit it appears the show was tied for 1st with Laverne and Shirley and Benson.
After the 4th episode they took a break to build a bigger set and props.
The second season got delayed from an Actors Strike.
The show never recovered in the ratings.
Brings me back to my childhood as I love this show.
The second intro that was primarily used is probably one of the best TV Intros ever!
However, I am enjoying it even more today.
I didn't watch much of Avengers or that Wolverine garbage and what I did see has nothing on shows like this.
I'm about to buy the entire DVD set of BattleStar Galactica which is another great show from the late 70s!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVf00anmpxM
Yes, thanks Monet I recall seeing it on MeTV - I think a couple months ago I saw the episode that mostly took place in a casino.
It wouldn't surprise me. It was popular enough where they made a pinball machine based on it that I really like (you know you've made it when they make a pinball license based on a person or show):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lePevjDCOVE
Pretty Cool Pinball Game!
I just watched the episode you are talking about.
"Vegas in Space"
Rogers has a pretty good quote in that episode.
After he wins over 9000 credits he says:
Two Great things about playing 10 11 against a computer.
One... You don't have to worry about the computer dealing from the bottom of the deck.
Two... You don't have to tip!!
Kinda Geeked up over here with TV shows as I am depressed from modern day TV Shows and Movies.
I just fired up my complete DVD set of VEGAS.
Gotta love Dan Tanna!
My only gripe with the show is that after season one the episodes seemed to get redundant.
That being said, who wouldn't want to live next door to Circus Circus and drive your car into your Living Room?
And... having milk delivered to your door every morning while a Show Girl works your telephone!
A Driving Double Feature!
Have you ever had a cop spill hot coffee on your hands??

Need more Bruce Dern??
Watch this Gem for the Nineteen-Seventies Triple Feature!!
I have the other two on DVD but need to buy this one.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JiQAHN3ZD50
Hi Monet, I saw Vanishing Point some years back and thought it was great. I haven't seen The Driver or Posse. Thanks for posting these. I saw a movie with Bruce Dern a few months ago with Matt Dillon called the Big Town. It has to do with Matt Dillon being a craps hustler. Apparently as long as you know the odds of a game you can make money at it even if it is -EV. LOL. Tommy Lee Jones does a great job in that movie as well. I enjoy Bruce Dern's movies just as you do.
Best, TP.
IMO, which doesn't mean too much, "Vanishing Point" comes in 3rd place between these 3 movies.
I rate "the Driver" number 1 but by a very slim margin.
After you watch it you should research it a bit if you have time.
One of the best movies of its genre and the chase scenes are probably the best in the business.
Your going to get many people saying that Bullitt, with Steve McQueen, is better in that regard but I disagree.
Of course Bullitt was first and the Director, Walter Hill was inspired by that movie.
Either way, you can't really go wrong with either as it boils down to preference and what kind of mood you are in.
Besides, The Driver is on the wrong side of the law but he lives by a specific code.
I think you and I can relate.
The director of "The Driver" does the story with a minimalist approach.
Not much dialog but I figure you will understand the characters and the world they live in and why they do what they do.
Posse is just amazing to me.
I don't want to spoil it at all for you so better for you to watch it and discuss it later.
Perhaps you won't like either of them as much as I do but you won't know till you actually watch them.
Vanishing Point is great because it is basically Rage Against the Machine.
It has some problems with it to me because the car just takes too much abuse and never has a scratch on it.
(I recently bought all the Dukes of Hazzard episodes and it reminds me of that. Not a bad thing as I am enjoying season 1, 2 and 3 more than I did as a kid!!)
That bothers me a bit but the heart of the story, as you already know, is to go out in a Blaze.
Hopefully a Blaze of Glory.
Not much left for that guy to do really.
He got bored after being a War Hero, Medal of Honor Winner, Race Car Driver, Policeman, Police Detective... etc etc.
After that he fell down the slope pretty fast, which is very realistic as you get older.
The world doesn't make sense anymore and he turned to drugs.
Basically trying to achieve that Edge or High that he had most of his life.
I really love the ending of Vanishing Point as I usually want my movies to not be some Happy Hollywood Ending.
Anyways... long post... watch the movies if you ever get the chance and let me know what you think.
Nothing wrong with Matt Dillon at all IMO.
Most of his movies are really good.
I watch Factotum all the time amongst others of his.
I seen the Big Town a few times.
Recently it was on one of my channels.
A little silly but entertaining.
They didn't concentrate on the cheating as much as they should of.
Like you said, they focused on Hot Streaks.
Fi-Yah!!
Oh and don't let a guy throw acid in your eyes!
He has another 80s movie that isn't too bad.
On the silly side as well but that's the 80s.
I like that Cheese!
"The Flamingo Kid"
You probably seen it.
One thing is guaranteed.
Great Movies and Actors are over.
Mostly because of some bean counter saying that good stories aren't cost effective anymore.
They don't want Great Movies or Great Actors anymore.
They just want to make 1000% or more on their investment.
Turns out all they need is CGI to achieve that.
Gone are the days of method acting and story telling.
We had a good run.
Turns out it is like Television Shows.
I have to buy all the DVD sets now to enjoy TV.
Another Movie they have been running lately that I don't own.
North Dallas Forty... Great Movie with Nick Nolte!!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJweLdwtDLY
thanks Monet. I'll see if The Driver and Posse come up on Tubi TV and if not then I can probably find them on putlocker (and then watch it on my laptop if that is the case). Yes Matt Dillon was in a number of good movies. I thought Rumblefish was pretty solid for example. Yup it's pretty much over. They figured out they can make a profit on most things without requiring any quality as you stated (same with food and music too I suppose). Marketeers dumbing down the populace did the trick, but unfortunately that also created a nation of millennial invalids.
Whoops totally forgot about Wild Things (1998) - highly underrated Matt Dillon film IMHO (didn't get good reviews really). You might want to check this one out if you haven't seen it Monet. It's pretty fucking sharp.
Hi Monet, I took in the Driver at https://lookmovie.ag/movies/view/the-driver-1978 for free on my laptop. I enjoyed the movie, thanks again for the reco.
Observations:
1) The Driver sure plays a mean game of Chicken
2) It's always great to know that in the movies boosted cars are always in exemplary shape - no rods about to snap, engine belts are tight, etc.
3) Love all the 70's scenery and stoicism (try getting a room at a daily/weekly/monthly for $5/night these days, LOL).
Cheers M8, TP.
No Doubt on all points.
I've lived in those types of places/rooms in Las Vegas and Atlantic City.
Most of them have either been condemned or tore down
Shower/Bathroom at the end of the hall and it was a luxury if you had a sink in your room.
Reminds me of the scene from the Hustler when Eddie is renting a room for a buck and half by the night!
If things got really bad you would have to opt for the locker that cost only 3 dollars a week.
Oddly enough that is another scene from the Hustler as Eddie is living in a locker at the Bus Station.
In those days I always found that a Gym Membership was invaluable.
Those were the days they were moving away from monthly cash and forced members to have a bank account or credit card.
In 1999 you could actually play as "The Driver" on the Play Station.
They copied the Garage Scene... too bad they didn't use that beautiful Orange Mercedes!

Funny story about that movie as I was working in Cleveland at the Ritz Carlton when it came out.
I went to the theater killing some time one afternoon and it was the only movie on the board that caught my attention.
I had no clue what it was about or who was in it.
Great Movie as I suppose I would classify it as a Dark Comedy.
I'm not sure you can find too many bad Bill Murray movies.
I've owned the DVD a few times over the years and watched it plenty.
Kind of loses its charm after you know what it is all about and what is going to happen.
Great First Viewing but loses its replay value for me over time.
Yes, that's a fair statement (I'm glad to hear you have already seen it). Recall that Neve Campbell was the shit back then. I guess she was just too much of a smart ass for Hollywood or didn't want to play ball, since that was the Zenith of her career roughly.
Couple of other things. I lived out of a weekly in Reno for 3 years (working Northern Nevada casinos - mostly vulturables with a very small amount of non-vulturable VP mixed in under certain conditions), but in our much more luxurious contemporary times where there were no cockroaches, bed bugs or shared bathrooms in that experience (I did tape up some cracks to keep the ants out) - the whole nine yards were required; credit card (I'm sure there are spots where you don't have to have this), ID, damage deposit, and I think they probably did a background check on me. 40 years ago I could have just handed someone at the front desk some cash and said my name was Joe Blow - I would have much preferred to be an adult then (before the government was cracking down on people who wanted to go through life anonymously) and doing just that; oh well.
The other thing (I did say a couple): if you're going to claim the bagman got away with the cash don't kill him on a train with a gazillion witnesses (The Driver) and then expect to get away with it. Ahh Hollywood. Anyway, like I said, great flick. thanks again.
I'm too tired to watch it right now but plan to watch it tomorrow.
It's refreshing to find a movie that I haven't seen.
Subject Material seems to be in my wheelhouse.
Romantic Comedy with plenty of Gambling Adventures.
Warren Beatty is pretty good IMO but it does only garner a 6.0 Rating on IMDB.
It seems that Smart Cars have been around at least since the 60s.
Full Movie Free on Youtube it appears...

This movie ran similar to A Thomas Crown Affair.
Speaking of that movie, I like both versions (68 & 99).
Usually I detest remakes but I find it hard not to like Remington Steele.
This movie "Kaleidoscope" is worth a Free Viewing.
I'm not in a hurry to add it to my DVD Collection but since it seems obscure and forgotten that alone makes me think about adding it.
I am never upset at some movie about "Cheating" a Casino.
When I watch this movie, I think about how naive Zenking claims to be.
I also thought about the 1967 British TV Show called "The Prisoner" when I watched this movie.
That TV Show is pretty wild if you can find it.
I recently seen a few episodes on some obscure channel I have that I can't remember the channel name lol.
It seems youtube may have all the episodes.
I am going to buy this dvd set now as I have only seen a few episodes of 17.
I like when he says: "I am a Free Man, I am not a number!" lol lol lol

Hi Monet, PBS used to run the Prisoner series and that is where I saw the episodes. I enjoyed the series so I'm glad to hear you will be picking up the DVD set. The series is especially valuable for younger viewers since it will teach them that a person must not let the corrupt psycopaths in authority intimidate or bulldoze them. Obviously most of the populace has not seen the Prisoner since they all think this Covid garbage is worth destroying our entire way of life.
I'm pleased to hear that Kaleidoscope has similarities to the Thomas Crown Affair, because, like you, I enjoyed the movie (Pierce Brosnan;didn't see the older one).
Yah it's weird that Zenking finds it surprising that casinos cheat.
Hi Monet, I completed my viewing of the film. I thought it was pretty good. I think we both realized that as soon as the rules at Dominions' casino mentioned (by Dominion himself) that the decks could be switched when the person dealing was changed during the stud and draw 5 card games, that he would have to rely on his wits rather than marked decks during the final stages. I liked the old school pips and faces only cards. Back then you could depict women as completely useless in all facets except as a love interest - she was a non-stop detriment to his success until the end. But of course there would be no story if that were not the case. How he knew that the freshly printed marked decks had no latency (or if there was latency what that latency would be) between delivery to the casino and when they hit the felt is anyone's guess ;-).
Thanks again for the reco, TP.
You make a good point about the woman interest.
Most likely Feminist Pressure to be written into the story.
I read some other comments about the movie and they had the same gripe about her.
The movie is a bit goofy but I enjoyed a few parts.
I like when he was going all cat burglar.
I couldn't figure out how he kept getting naturals.
I'm guessing the glasses could see through the cards but still naturals almost every time?
The point was he knew when to bet on the bank and win.
Obviously he was being far too greedy and not milking it.
Of course that is true to real life as many players who find an edge like this burn it out.
I'm guilty of doing it a few times myself.
You can't think too much with this type of movie though... just have to enjoy it for what it is.
Better than the Avenger Movies of today.
I enjoy the cars, scenery, 60s atmosphere and the architecture.
The movie has some parallels to what Phil Ivey and Cheung Yin Sun did in real life for millions.
The movie is definitely a solid 6 out of 10 IMO... perhaps up to 7 depending on what you compare it to.
If you really want to get into a debate... lets talk about the best James Bond movie of all time IMO...
ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE
George Lazenby is really good.
He even breaks the 4th wall making a reference to Sean Connery.
The movie is Epic and it has the real life Vegas Fixture Telly Savalas as the Bad Guy.
It also seems to go with this 60s kick that I am on!

(It appears the Full Movie is on Youtube in 18 parts)
Recent Upload... probably get struck down by copyright.

Yes he could not control what cards were dealt - he could only make betting decisions based on the marked cards he saw, so we have to suspend belief as you say and just go with it. I was thinking exactly what you said about shearing the sheep and not torching the play as I was watching him blow out Monte Carlo.
Yes I remember On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Bond got married and his wife was shot up while they were driving. This movie was definitely a period piece. I thought it was pretty good. My favorite Bond movie would actually be a pair: The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker.
Now here I am about to write something weird. I remember Dolly (Jaws' girlfriend in Moonraker) having braces (I saw this movie in the theater when it first debuted and even got the little mini fold out poster with the full cast and promo artwork they handed out as you entered on the 1st day of the showing) - she showed them when she smiled at Jaws (the late great Richard Kiel) after the sky tram "accident". But if you watch the movie today she smiles and does not have braces. I have not heard of different versions of the film being shown so I will chalk it up to stereotypes rather than the Mandela Effect.
Kaleidoscope and On Her Majesty's Secret Service were both filmed (in part) at Pinewood Studios (easy to do since Pinewood had so many films done there in part). The memory plays odd tricks with us and so I really thought it was weird that I would have such a strong memory of something that never occurred and that many other people share the same memory of braces. But of course she simply didn't have braces and that's the way of it, even though it is much more entertaining to think some people such as myself jumped timelines. I guess it's like those optical illusions that a lot people interpret the same way like the wire-frame box that can be looked at in two different ways, etc.
I hope the upcoming new Bond movie is good Monet. I look forward to watching it on putlocker or 123movies (as I just did a couple weeks back with Tenet).
We have had around 57 years of James Bond movies.
I'm ready for it to end lol.
I heard they want the next Bond to be a woman and I have no interest in watching a woman as 007.
The recent installments of woman like Bond movies have been terrible.
The only reason I enjoy Atomic Blonde is because of the 80s, the soundtrack and that character played by James McAvoy.
As far as spy movies go, I suppose "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" is what I want or enjoy the most.
However, I want my Bond movies to be filled with corn and cheese.
I need my Bond to Kill people, always Win at Gambling, drinking Shaken Martinis and Sex Crazed for every Woman.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VW-F1H-Nonk
Yes Tinker Tailer Soldier Spy was exceptional. Like Miller's Crossing, it fully illustrates the power of the thinking man. If they jump the shark with Bond, I too will no longer watch the future Bond movies (like me, I'm sure you're done watching Star Wars movies and look at the sewage remake of Ghostbusters). I think the next one though (No Time to Die) still has Daniel Craig. When it hits putlocker/123, perhaps I will screen mirror it from my laptop to my friend's smart TV and enjoy it with some pizza and a just-above-freezing can of Coca Cola.
TP & Monet
You guys probably watch or have seen A LOT more movies than I, but there was a movie I saw with a buddy in 77' or 78' at a drive-in in Brentwood Ca. called The Farmer. It's a classic 70's revenge flick that apparently is ultra rare to find now.
Wondering if either of you have ever seen it.
Appears to be a Swedish Movie.
Seems that people either love it or hate it.
Must be the reason for the low rating score.
Thanks for bringing it up though as I don't believe I have seen or heard of it.
I'll watch it and let you know.
As I mentioned before.
I watch this movie a lot.
A movie that had both real life cops and robbers as technical advisors.
A good one from Michael Mann.
James Belushi's first movie.
Supposedly his brother Jim was on set enjoying the party and his brother.
Tuesday Weld makes sense as she has done these types of movies before.
One of those being the Cincinnati Kid.
Some amazing quotes in this movie...

I'll whack out ya whole family. People'll be eatin' 'em in their lunch tomorrow in their Wimpyburgers and not know it.
Lie to no one. If there 's somebody close to you, you'll ruin it with a lie. If they're a stranger, who the fuck are they you gotta lie to them?
Probably the best "safecracker" scene of all time using a torch.
Thief (1981)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHgAEcVzh1o
Thanks Monet. Yes Thief is a good one.
Good luck trying to find The Farmer. As I said before it’s supposedly super rare. I’ve read that in the 77-78’ range it had limited showings, mostly around military areas? Me and my buddy were in our mid teens then and we caught it twice in the span of about a week. I remember it played with The Boys from Company C.
Wish I could get it.
This is good because I found the Trailer and I found another movie I haven't seen that is supposed to be comparable to Thief.
So I have 2 movies that I haven't seen to track down.
The Farmer might be impossible but am hopeful as it seems many people wanted a copy back in 2008.
The other movie is "The Sorcerer (1977)" with Roy Scheider who is always good in these types of movies.
This also reminds me I need to find a copy of the original movie called "Man on Fire (1987)" with Scott Glenn.
I enjoy the Denzel/Scott version but always wanted to watch/own the 1987 version.
So that's 3 movies I get out of this conversation, so thanks again!
From what I read the movie has a copyright problem with the music.
So if a company wants to release the movie they have to pay the bill for the copyright.
The Farmer
He never gets mad.
He gets EVEN!
