The term hobo basically means migrant worker. A hobo works everywhere he goes. A bum won't travel and won't work. He just stays in one spot and leeches off of others.
As a hobo I did the hardest work in all the towns. All the work no one else wanted to do. It takes a lot of gumption to do that. In my prime I could put anyone to shame if they tried to match me tit for tat doing physical labor.
All that roaming around I did ran me into professional gambling. My income certainly went way up but as a contributing member of society I took a big step downward. Gambling for a living is a non-redeeming endeavor. There are no goods or services delivered. Nothing is produced. A professional gambler is nothing but a leech. A bloodsucker. He produces or delivers nothing. Just strip mines the economy. Pure lowlife. In these respects a professional gambler has far more in common with a bum than he does a hobo.
