Rob Singer quit this forum after his fake "Vegas trip" debacle, which we busted as being phony -- but why?

However, if you remember, his swan song here seems to have been an elaborate (albeit stupid) plan to fake coming to Vegas to play high stakes VP. If you remember, I was in Vegas at the time and offered to meet up with him to witness it, which he accepted. However, of course he went unreachable when I tried to set up the meetup, and I found strong evidence from his IP address that he had actually never left Arizona. Knowing I would check on the IP, he laughably bought a VPN service and selected an IP in Vegas, not realizing I could see right through that.

If you also remember, in that same thread he posted a phony video poker big hit which turned out to be running on a Windows machine at home.

After denying we caught him in several lies, he vanished for good -- at least from VegasCasinoTalk.

But why? Clearly he set up this grand finale in advance, but what was the point? Why was he quitting, only to move over to other forums? Does he think people are more gullible on those forums?

Very bizarre.

I've always had a problem thinking people aren't really that. Like it is a facade but then it turns out that is them. I always give people too much credit. I suspect this is the case with Rob. He really was trying to convince people.

I spent 90-100 days in Las Vegas every football season during the 90's. Rob was a staple at Gaming Today, often appearing on the cover with his photo next to a featured column about video poker. Rob, who had no discernible gambling credentials prior to that column, is Italian. The publisher of Gaming Today is also Italian. It is the 90's. Draw your own conclusions.

That's the background to my theory that it is probably difficult to go from having your pic front page on a third of the issues and having everyone in LV recognize and talk to you wherever you go, and then having that transform into being mathematically debunked and leaving Las Vegas and living a very non-public life. So the forums provide an opportunity to regain some of that once-high gambling world profile.

It is not an exaggeration to say that Singer was once one of most recognized and discussed figures in Las Vegas. Thousands of Gaming Todays were distributed everywhere at the time, and Rob's smiling face was in every major sports book every Tuesday. Very tough to go from man about town to man on a forum.

Anyway, that's my theory. Singer had many things right about Las Vegas -- about the hosts and the way things worked in general, people addicted to players' clubs and doing torturous speculative math to arrive at questionable positive EVs and all that, and he may be half right about the tipping. But when the math of video poker became public knowledge (in other words, as the internet was accessed by every gambler), his theories and declarations about gambling expertise kind of got swept into the dustbin of history.

Singer left this forum after being exposed repeatedly over this latest false claim of hitting a big jackpot. As part of that claim he posted fake pictures of said jackpot, from a computer screen in his (daughter's) home, complete with exercise equipment in the picture. That photo was picked a part by PostiveVariance and other members. Singer also posted a picture of a safe with fake movie prop type stacks of money that can be purchased from Amazon.

He followed this up with an in-person meetup challenge of MaxPen at SouthPoint, at which Singer never showed. He bizarrely claims he showed 2 hours earlier than agreed time. He followed that up 2 weeks later by challenging Dan Druff to meet his at a Las Vegas casinos. Druff re-arranged his schedule to accommodate Singer, but Singer then claimed the window had closed. Dan Druff, as he is able to do, knew that Singer wasn't even in Las Vegas, despite using a VPN from Las Vegas.

Singer was exposed on every front, and we all watched it play out and then humiliated, he left this forum. He continues to post at GF, where I guess he thinks people aren't on to him or know of his 20+ years of this fake crap. I have tried to make sure they do and that know one can be fooled by this 20+ year troll. '

Singer does post his alternate reality of all events, including his scheduled meet-up with Dan Druff. which are lies. We all saw it play out first hand. At this point, I don't even know who he thinks he is lying to.

I guess he is mostly harmless now, other than badmouthing and lying about others, as I don't think there is anyone on the planet that believes anything this guy claims. He is in his 70's and still trying, but no one is buying.

Similarly, Mdawg is mostly harmless now, as he too has been exposed and I don't see anyone that really believes his fantasy-fiction adventure. A few engage with him, but after he retracted 7 months and $500k worth of wins with a single line last year saying he and wizard went over his records and he was about even, like Singer, his con game was over.

Now all these people can do is turn up the volume on their trolling, hate, lies and get really nasty.

Points taken, KJ, but ask yourself this: "What is their end game?"

Why aggrandize and bullshit about yourself knowing it's a house of cards that will and does get exposed?

Gotta suspect these guys, in addition to being narcissists have a pretty strong masochistic streak.

OMG, MrV, I can't possibly know what drives these clowns or what their end game is. I think, and this is only my opinion, that Singer was initially about selling his ridiculous books, which puts him on level with all these other youtube type scammers. That didn't last long and he didn't make any money, but from that point on, he just has been really bitter and angry.

That bitterness and anger seems to be a common thread with many of these hater/trolls. I suspect most are losing, degenerate gambler type players that have lost a lot of money gambling and have a strong disdain and hate for players that play with an advantage and win. There is a definite anti-AP group, and they are among the biggest trolls and haters.

But here is the one undeniable truth (<- :D) about this situation. The thing that really brings out the hate, attacks and lying from all these dudes is someone, especially a real players or AP saying they don't believe these guys, because what they are claiming is not how the math, Las Vegas or the casino industry works. Someone, who knows expresses doubt and they go bizerk.

Case in point: One guy in the last 24 hours lied saying I am dating a black guy?!?!. :confused: I am not dating a black guy, not that it matters. These people will just say anything! I guess they think if they can discredit those that doubt them, it somehow makes their claims more believable. Acually, who knows what they think or what their thought process is. All we can do is guess. But it is not normal.

This is not the first time Rob has disappeared from this forum. One time he disappeared for several months. KJ and redietz kept attacking him practically on a daily basis. I actually thought at first that MDawg was just using forum stories to pull the wool over his family's eyes regarding whether he won or lost in Las Vegas. By giving kind of detailed but not verifiable narratives that other forum members might engage with him and treat as if true, Mdawg was likely just covering his losses with some multi-forum narratives. The idea being that his hanging out in LV for weeks at a time wasn't indicative of addiction gone bad or him just having a good time while blowing cash, but was actually him being a good gambling earner and being an "AP." I thought, well, it's bullshit but that's okay. I actually PMed him a couple of times and said his best move was to tone it down some, as he was edging into unbelievability.

Well, of course, who am I to tell MDawg what to do? He of course did the opposite and went on some Never Never Land stories of 50 wins in 52 attempts and winning at this plus winning at that.

I still think it may all be to create plausible deniability for why he spends so much LV time.

Rob has done his own weird stuff over the years. Recently, he claimed to have been asked to host a video poker panel at the big gaming convention in LV. Well, no such panel. Rob responded by saying the panel had been moved to his private suite. Yeah, that's the ticket. Just weird stuff. Is he actually hoping people believe it? Who knows? He's done this over and over. Before the panel, it was an editor at GT asking him to come back and do some columns. Well, the guy he claimed asked him hadn't been at GT for months, if not years.

The more I type this, the more I feel badly for him.

Read it a couple times.
I think I posted 2 or maybe 3 times... maybe.
I find the place difficult to navigate and boring for the most part.
Too many topics and subforums.
Same with GF.
I have an account.
I posted maybe 3 or 4 times.
I rarely and I mean rarely go to either site.
I usually go when someone mentions something over here about it.

I think I seen the title awhile back when I was reading about Hustler Poker.

People think I have some account on WOV or GF or whatever but I don't think I do. I posted a little on 2+2, RTP (anyone know that?), but I don't really have enough time to read all that. Gambling forums have so few gems and that is probably for the best. I also posted on some of Dan Druffs other accounts.

Redietz has a pretty good theory on Singer. It very much makes sense to me.

Can't say I agree with Monet about poker. It attracts a lot of sociopaths but it also has a lot of autistic nerds. Everyone knows you can lie about your hand etc, that isn't cheating or screwing over anyone, thats just playing the game as known by the widely understood roles. It is part of the game, but more or less because of human nature and the nature of the game. It isn't because of the game itself.
