Weird pop-up casino appears for 8 hours in Las Vegas, and it's completely legal

Very odd story.

Marriott has a nonrestricted gaming license. The license is grandfathered, and is especially valuable because it does not require to be on a resort property.

However, the license will expire if no gaming is offered in 24 months, and it had almost been 24 months since they last operated any gaming in Nevada.

"The Beach" nightclub on Convention Center Drive had been closed for 17 years. Century Gaming Technologies asked Nevada Gaming for permission to run an 8-hour "pop up casino" on the site of The Beach, on behalf of Marriott, in order to preserve the license. The request was granted! This is the 10th time this occurred since 2006.

Must have been a Vulture Fest for 8 hours - despite rip-off paytables like 94% BP (or rip-off DBP if you want to think of it from that angle), there might have been some hasty machine set up mistakes on the +EV side.
Rip-off BP/DBP:

They have been doing this same little license renewal trick for the Moulin Rouge Casino for almost 70 years now.

The Moulin Rouge was the "black" Casino that opened in the 1950's when blacks were not allowed in the regular casinos except to work (and Sammy Davis Jr). It was burned to the ground several months after opening and for 70 years the family that owns the license has a "pop up casino" on the site on Bonanza Road, for 8 hours every two years which meets the requirements. Very odd tradition and requirement for renewing the license.

You missed your opportunity to engage in some double up bug shenanigans. No doubt this is the type of situation where they used some old stored VP machines that weren't updated/fixed. FYI those machines probably weren't from the Beach nightclub. IIRC they mostly had Bartop machines and a sportsbook, it's possible they had a few uprights.

Back in the day, I would oftentimes target nightclubs that had gaming in order for us to skip the lines and cover charges, the beach was one of those places. It's usually a pain in the ass the first time talking to management and explaining they can't charge you without a special license, but after that, it's a breeze.

But I wonder how some of the logistics of these 8 hour temporary casinos work. A regular casino is required to have a certain amount of money on hand to pay off all possible wins and such. Just that amount of money seems like it would make for an easy target unless there was also a disproportionately high amount of security. :confused:

So if there were some older machines with D-U bug capability, even without hitting something huge requiring paperwork, a couple players could have made a nice profit just doubling up 4oak hits, which is how I would have played it anyway had I stumbled on it back in the day. So for an 8 hour deal like this, at the end of 8 hours they could show a fairly significant and unexpected loss. AND there would be no way to go back and look at video to see what occurred. :D

Didn't know what a pop-up was V. But axel is on the mark with his comment. I've said in the past that there is zero chance even 80% of the machines worldwide had the proper correction made. IGT left the updating to those in charge of their own machines after providing the instructions.

Some machines weren't on floors, some were but were being skipped over for whatever reasons, and not every casino with an active inventory of infected machines chose to perform the fix. One instance I've provided was how every machine ar the Western Village Sports bar were never updated. While I could never get a good read on if they updated ANY machines, they chose a Peppermill-wide mandate that no machines shall ever be offered with the DU option going forward. And after I ran thru the sequence on one of their own machines for several interested execs, it's not hard to understand why they decided on this approach.

I normally note in my head about certain machines/locations. On the surface, the situation might seem very marginal or unplayable, but knowing they have certain machines or something specific might make it a fantastic play. It might take years before something playable comes up, but when it does, I know it's probably good and what to target.

For example, there might be a small location that has a .5% cash back card, but the best game is -5%. They occasionally have special point multiplier days, ignored by most since it's -EV. perhaps there are a few machines miss-programmed giving 8x points. The location calculates they can give out 10x points on promotion and still make money. Now imagine if you can get 10x points on a miss-programmed 8x points machine.

There have been situations where I locked up information in my head just waiting for the right situation for many years when suddenly that situation pops up. Meanwhile, sometimes, I can't remember where I put my keys 5 minutes ago. I caught myself looking for my cell phone a few times while I'm actually talking on it.

To perpetuate that silly claim is to be a fool....and there appears to be a lot of fools around here.

I showed that picture because someone here was interested in the 50 magnum S&W. So I opened my safe and put it at the bottom of the safe, while showing what a 50 magnum round looked like next to a 9mm. The cash just happened to be there. If I were REALLY wanting to get under some skins I'd have shown the top shelf of the safe, which had over $500k in cash. And nobody said a thing until boz came along and planted that Amazon idea into your otherwise empty heads. Then, the sheep found a way out of their angst and jumped on board the fantasy train. "The color of the bills is off" blah blah blah. That's because none of you "high rollers" has ever seen a casino dip into it's cache of new $10k bill stacks and hand them over. Besides, what'd I do--quickly order who knows how many fake bills when someone asked about the gun?

You of course, along with others, can continue on with hoping the bills are "fake". It's of no consequence to us as we travel everywhere the rest of you just can't swing these days--and in gas guzzlers to boot. Is there some community of wealthy millionaires that summer in the Reno/Tahoe area, living in cramped, 15 year old, pull behind camper/trailers, that we don't know about? To read Ron, this is the life of luxury that we all should be jealous of.

You know those different sites that you type in a person's name and a little bit of information, like address and they give an estimate of the person's net worth? They can be off by a bit, but they usually are pretty spot on. Every single one of these sites lists Robert Argentino as 50K and below, which happens to be the lowest category. Every single one!

Of course Rob will tell you that is because they don't know about the suitcases and safes full of money he had hidden. If you believe that, well he has a Newell he wants to sell you.

By the way, shades of Cousin Eddie and his money buried in coffee cans all over his "estate" in the desert. The similarities between Rob Singer and Cousin Eddie continue to be eerie.
