Political undertones in The Ides of March movie

I know I'm late, but I just got to see George Clooney's The Ides of March political thriller. Excellent movie. George is a great actor, and you have to love everything that Philip Seymour Hoffman does. I became his fan in 2000 with the release of Almost Famous.

What struck me is the political overtones of the movie The Ides Of March: it was clearly liberal, progressive and as far from the Republican / Tea Party theme that you could possibly get.

Would the movie have been as good -- or better -- if the campaign rhetoric of Clooney's character had been the Conservative approach?
