About Jason Collins "Coming Out"

There was news today about an NBA player. Wizards center Jason Collins says he is Gay.

It is all over the news. But for me, the "news" is that Jason Collins was the first pro major sport player to announce he is Gay. I didn't know that. There are Gays in government, media, industry, religion, entertainment and I expected that there were also known Gays in major league sports.

I didn't think it was "news" and I still don't think it's news. And it certainly should have no impact on his playing career or on the fans.

The interesting thing is that he is pretty old--been in the league a long time--and will be a free agent next year. So will no team pick him up because he is gay, or will he be picked up by someone to prove that the league is tolerant. And if the latter, is it despite his probably being washed up and old.
