Drunk player leaves behind chips.
I was at Commerce Casino tonight with a friend who wanted to play a little cards. No big playing on my part -- I bought in for $100 at the Mississippi Stud game and colored up and left with $105. Yes... a five dollar profit on the evening.
But while we were at the table a player who was visibly drunk (no kidding, he was drunk) sat down at the table and took out of his pocket what appeared to be $10,000 in new $100 bills. He peeled off ten bills, got two stacks of $25 (purple chips) and sat down to play.
The first thing that struck us at the table was that he didn't know how to play the game. He didn't know the betting structure, or how to post. Or else... perhaps he did know but he was too drunk to play.
He lost the first hand (about $250) and when the cocktail waitress came by and he tried to order a drink she said to him "no more drinks for you tonight. You were cut off."
On the next hand he hit a payoff of $2,000. And he got up from the table and walked away. We don't know where he went.
After about a half hour, a dealer asked for a plastic cover for the chips... and the chips were covered.
Three hours later the player had not returned. It was time for me and my friend to leave and my friend suggested we look for the drunk player. We checked the poker area -- not there. And the bar -- not there.
My friend suggested we tell a floorman. The floorman told my friend "oh I forgot about that player." It was now more than three and a half hours since he left the table.
Did he go home and forget about the $2700 or so that was left on the table?
What troubled us was that during that three and a half hours no floorman came to the table to check on the player or the chips that were left there. I wonder if the casino even knew who the player was? He didn't present a player's card and he bought in with cash so there was no marker.
