Currently it is more commonly used in a humorous way as a desire for something non sexual.
Many different words are now substituted for the former meaning of horny.
Some of the formal words now used in its place include aroused, amorous, & excited.
Some of the more casual words now used in it’s place are hot, hots, & sexy.
Some of the words that are used in its place that are considered vulgar are hard, wet, & down-to-fuck.

Quick searches of both Twitter and Facebook would indicate that, "Horny," remains fairly common in the nomenclature, with several posts within the last hour containing the word on both platforms.
