Cash back money or bounce back money. Are they important to you?

There are several different kinds of incentives that casinos use to get your patronage, your business-- and your money. One of the ways is to offer you a "rebate" on your gambling. It can be in the form of "cash back" or "bounce back" money.

Cash back means you get a percentage of your bets (usually bets on slot machines or video poker) at the end of your visit-- or even during your visit.

Bounce back means that the percentage is sent to you for redemption later. You might get a bounce back check in the mail once a month which can only be "cashed" or redeemed when you visit the casino again.

It's probably a given that most players prefer cash back over bounce back. But how important are either -- cash back or bounce back -- to you? Or, would you prefer some other incentive or form of marketing deal to get your business?

For example, would you rather get free food, free hotel room, free airfare? Would you rather have these other incentives because you don't gamble that much?

Most players prefer any type of cash that will allow them to gamble at their machines. As someone who actually sees no difference in cash back or bounce-back cash, it is only because I never play any of it no matter what. Again, EXACTLY the opposite of what the casino wants and expects the player to do.

Rob, when a casino sends you bounce back or cash back money do you play it? Or do you toss it in the trash? When you say "I never play any of it no matter what" you make it sound that you don't even bother to redeem the coupons even if you are going to the same casino for a previously scheduled trip and not going out of your way to make a special trip.

Many casinos require you to play BB through the machines if it is in the form of freeplay. Otherwise, CB/BB are just handling you money. That money can be used for any of the things you listed, Alan, so I'm not sure why anyone would prefer comps. I guess the only exception would be if the value of the comps was much higher. Then it would require a person to place a meaningful value on them.

These days there are far fewer positive return machines. That means CB/BB/freeplay/cash promotions are key to making a profit. A good player knows exactly the value of these items and how to maximize them. Not only are they important but they are crucial to winning.

Comps are fine but they need to be looked at very carefully to make sure they are something a player truly needs.

No Alan, that's why I've typically booked a half dozen or more hotels on a single trip. I've always simply scooped up whatever they give me and never have played any of it unless it's just freeplay. If I were there to play a session I'd play it with the cash I brought and never touch the free stuff.

Let me make sure I have this correct: even though you are at the casinos, in the city, and you have the cash back or bounce back money, which is really free play, you "never touch the free stuff" ?? Is that what you are saying??? You won't use the rebate money they give you to play? Please explain more clearly. Thanks.

When I played professionally and even thru today, if I come into town and I scoop up $450 in cash back or bounce-back cash (which is always given as cash unlike the silly guess arci put in just to sound like he knew something) I will and have never used it to play with. If I arrived with my typical $17,400 to play a session then the free stuff would never be touched. Today, although my offers are much less, I never play with anything that is given from the slot club or in the marketing offers. Even if I don't play a session during my time in town. It is exactly the opposite what the casinos expect and want the player to do, and that is the only way other than being extraordinarily lucky, to profit from the casinos.
