competency test for politicians over 75
In her announcement for a run for the presidency today, Nicki Haley, calls for a competency test for politicians over 75 years old. This was a rather obvious shot at both Trump and Biden, thinly veiled by calling for all politicians rather than just those running for the presidency. ;)
On the same day that Haley called for that, Diane Feinstein, 89 years old announced that she would not seek re-election in 2024. When taking questions after her announcement, Feinstein seemed confused as to whether she had in fact announced that. :confused:
By all accounts, Feinstein has been in mental decline for at least a couple years. This leads one to ask what shape she was in when she last ran in 2018? Who knew what at that time, but said nothing.
And what about Chuck Grassley, also 89, who just won re-election to another 6 year term, which will take him until 95 years old?
There are currently 14 senators 80 years old or older and 31 that are 75 years old. Yikes!
And my final question, why did Nicki Haely select 75 years old? Is it ok to have a presidential candidate, or senator that is mentally incompetent at 71?, how about 64? or even 51, as Nicki Haley is? What about a congressman at 34 (George Santos) or any of several others on both sides that might not fair too well on a competency test?
I would like to see a competency test for ALL politicians. I don't have to agree with their positions, but I would like to know that those making the laws and policy are not bat shit crazy.
