The thing is this is the cheapo way of dealing with a problem. They could instead hire extra peole and basically do an airport xray of all luggage coming in. Some hotels in europe already do this.
However witht he size of the hotels and the lines that form at check in time.....they would have to hire a bunch of people to keep things moving....and so they go for the cheap way out.
Now if someone wanted to hide a few dis-assembled rifles under the Mattress.....will the security guys be lifting up and peeking under matresses? I am thinking they dont go that far. and if luggage has a lock on it....anything vcan be overlooked as well. This in my opinion is ineffective for what they want to accomplish.
even if they had xray machines screening luggage,,,,,,a person could bing up pieces of a weapon piece by piece by piece from the trunk of his car or from a friends home, or from a fleabag hotel.....
