I also play for recreation and not to be an AP like some on this forum, I primarily play JOB and Deuces Wild to stretch my limited bankroll allocation much as I can. It is not very common to find 9/6 JOB for quarters in most places in the country, as most places require a minimum $1 denomination if they do offer the game. Thus I would consider playing 9/6 JOB at quarters as a privilege.
It seems like the casino knows that DDB is the most played game and it can get away with lowering the paytable. One of the biggest principles of economics is when the demand is high, the prices can be kept high. The difference in the house edge of the 9/5 DDB and 9/6 JOB is substantial over the long term result; the DDB player has to hit more premium quads with kickers and Royal Flushes than usual to get the same payout as the JOB player who might get less Royal Flushes than usual.
I think you might enjoy Bonus Poker which still pays 2 for 1 on 2 pairs, but it does not have the kicker bonuses like DDB. The thrill of experiencing a jackpot does come at a higher cost in between them for DDB. I will play some DDB if I feel I went through a stretch of 3 play sessions where I have not seen a low quad or an ace quad.
As long as you are playing for entertainment and can manage yourself from losing more than you can afford to, it should be good. To be able to get five royals and the year still has a quarter left to go means you do play higher volume than most people.
On another note: I mistyped my last message. It should have been an exclamation mark instead of a comma. Congrats again!
I think the quads usually dictates how well your play session will be, if it comes more frequent than 1 in 420 rounds, chances are you will walk out a winner for the day.
Maybe the person's advantage play is get other people's casino club cards and use their free play off of them?
It is to each person's own, but to me Full House and Flushes come up often than the low quads, it is not worth compromising a pay credit for the slightly boosted quads over JoB.
I will think its worth the gamble if I seen two full houses and/or two flushes in less than a span of 100 rounds, I would switch to Bonus for the next 100 rounds for a chance at a bigger win. No guarantees through in independent probability.

alpax,
I like to play in the lounge at our local casino because i enjoy the live entertainment they have nightly as well as the better pay tables at .25 denomination. Its funny, out on the casino floor the best DDB games at .25 i have seen is 8/5, with JOB being 7/5 i think. So out on the floor it is a no brainer for me to just play DDB. In the lounge its a mix, some machines have 9/5 DDB but with poorer paying schedules of BP and JOB. Others are 8/5 DDB with 9/6 JOB. So basically i have to change machines (if open) if i'm in a bad streak and want to play the best paying DDB or JOB.
I am definitely having an above average year for royals. You take the good with the bad right?
Loaded with jackpots- I'll start posting some and try and liven up this forum

You will find that those who have little to gamble with or who are afraid of gambling but just can't stay away from it, play what they tell themselves in their minds is the "safe", points-accumulating game of JoB. And all the while, casino managers everywhere give one great big smile when they continually walk thru their front doors.
Was trying to give some suspense

And one more for good luck

dannyj, it is very good that you are scouting the paytables throughout the casino. It is important, but for some reason certain casinos I been to have the best paytables on the bartops and certain ones have the worst ones out of the entire floor. I suppose they pressure people into caving into the temptation of alcohol. It is not worth switching machines, but yes I agree that the paytable arrangement is quite odd at the casino you play at.
Savor the moment with the royal stretch as best as possible, I heard from people who play regularly that it is entirely possible go an entire year without one. Still set aside the winnings to the bankroll so that you could survive rough stretches.
Thanks for the suspense! I originally thought you were trolling there, but still thanks for sharing those hits!
I hope you took the hold off of the 10 spades before you hit the draw button there on Deuces Bonus! An Ace kicker will double the quad deuces payout.

I'm glad you brought up the 10s being held. He held it. Look at the photo. I thought that was a kicker game. Is it?
I drove up to Vegas on Thursday to take care of some business Thursday night. As some of you know, I have some clients in Vegas and do some TV advertising and marketing work there. After my business was conducted it was time to play.
I was able to make the trip with a two-night offer from Bellagio that included a modest amount of free play. When I checked in to Bellagio Thursday afternoon I immediately ran the $500 of free play (a lot more than Rincon ever gave me) in their $5 Video Poker Progressive but no luck. Not even one 4 of a kind, and no full houses or flushes either.
My meeting was with a client over at Caesars. After the meeting I walked over to the "mini dome" high limit area to play some video poker. The machines I like there with 8/5 Bonus are multi denominational: $5, $10 and $25.
Business has been good, and during the drive up from LA I dreamed of hitting a big royal. So, I took out a $5,000 marker (my usual for a trip to LV because I do not carry any cash with me) and sat down at my usual terminal in the mini-dome.
But this time -- perhaps because I was feeling good about business -- instead of playing at $5 I played at $25 per coin.
I've played $25/coin only a few times and only for a limited number of hands -- either you win something fast or you quickly move down to more affordable levels.
On Thursday night, I hit something fast.
With only $1,000 in the machine, I hit quad queens for $3125 -- and if you look at the picture -- it happened on my very last play.
Then, following the advice of Rob Singer -- I moved back to a lower denomination. I put $500 in the machine and at $5/coin played a few hands and then -- a straight flush. See the photo. At this point I am saying to myself -- suppose I didn't listen to Rob and was still playing $25/coin???
After the straight flush handpay, I continued to play at $5/coin thinking that I had my run of luck. And yes, I did think my good luck was over because I went through about $2,000 with nothing being hit. No quads -- I don't think I even got a full house or a flush. So out of frustration, I loaded another thousand in the machine, switched back to $25/coin hoping I was "due," played a couple of hands, and got quad 2s for a $5,000 pay. See the photo with half of the $1,000 "reload" gone and $500 remaining.
At this point I thought about repaying my $5,000 marker but I didn't. I figured I would hold onto the cash and use that marker money over at Bellagio since I don't have a credit line there.
But that's not what happened. Because after the quad 2s came the machine got "hot" and the flushes and full houses started coming. And then -- my dream and wish and hopes and desires came true: my cell phone rang and Katy Perry was calling me asking me to move in with her. No. It wasn't that dream. It was my other dream...
the big one hit. A $25/coin royal flush for $100,000. See the photo. And for everyone who doesn't believe me, see the photo of the check from Caesars. The check is for $90,000 because to get the check I had to pay back the $5,000 marker and I took $5,000 cash to play with at Bellagio.
I also sent photos of the royal to Rob who welcomed me to the "$100,000 club" and to my son Jason. Since I was in Vegas by myself, I said to Jason -- drive up and celebrate with me. I'll give you some money to play. Jason drove up and using my "seed money" he started hitting. We were at Bellagio now -- about 2 in the morning -- and he was playing Bellagio's $5 VP progressive. You could choose among six games and he was playing 9/5 Double Double Bonus because any quad with a kicker would have made him happy. Jason got quad 2s, 3s, and Jacks and Kings -- but nothing with a kicker. But he did hit the progressive royal for about $26,000. Photo below. Does he look like me?
While he was playing, I was playing, but I was losing. Since I had a check for $90,000 and wasn't going to cash it (it went into the bank Friday afternoon) and since I lost my $5,000 I had to borrow some of Jason's winnings from his quads to keep playing -- and that's when holding only one ace I drew three more aces plus a kicker for $10,000. Yes, I immediately paid Jason back. See the photo.
I admit that the balance of that $10K was lost in subsequent play -- but the $90,000 from the royal at Caesars is in the bank. And it's not going anywhere either -- Bank of America has a hold on the check for at least one week. Caesars issues checks from Wells Fargo. By the way, the checks do not say "Debtor In Possession" which is what I thought they would say since Caesars Palace is in bankruptcy.
Jason also took a check for most of his royal, but because Bellagio banks with Bank of America and so does Jason, his check will be cleared Monday morning.
It was a hoot of a time. And one more thing: at Bellagio I played craps and made the Small, Tall, All bets. Once when I shot I made the Tall ($10 paid $350) and once when I shot I made the Tall with a $25 bet ($25 paid $875). By the way, both times I only made two passes and I love the Small, Tall, All bets because it doesn't require you to make any passes -- just roll the numbers before any 7.
Well done sir...I mean sirs.
And the $25 symbol even has the entire number within the oval. How about that !
