Rob, blablablablablablablablabla...... You forget to mention jealousy, you're the greatest VP player in the world, 1 million dollars, RV, restaurants, etc. Maybe if you tell all of it just one more time we'll start listening

Oh and Rob, you've made your host a lot of promisses. You broke nearly all of them so I'm just in my poking Rob mode now, just for fun

And here I was, waiting for you to say something about my wife! Come to think of it, Alan & I are the only ones to post such photos.Probably because we have nothing to hide, we're proud of them both, and neither is a cripple

Oddly--I had aces 5 times the other day on super aces so didn't need the kicker. But each time the 5th card was a 6. I'll ask again--random??? Trying to attach a photo of one of them but as usual the technology fails me.

Never seen so many aces over the last few months but alas---still no royal.

Thursday was a big day for me. I reached 150,000 tier points for another year of 7Stars with the Caesars casinos and I hit a royal at the $5 level. Before I hit the royal I had a rush of big-paying hands.

The day started with $380 of free play at Harrah's Rincon in San Diego which kept me about even on the $2 Aces and Faces machines, so after a while I cashed out $300 and I went to my favorite 8/5 $5 Aces and Faces machines but found a lovely lady sitting at my "favorite" machine and she was hitting quads after quads playing double double bonus. Sometimes she hit quads only a few hands apart. She finally left when she hit quad aces with a deuce for $10,000. Did I move over to her machine when she left? No. And there was no need to.

I didn't move because the machine I was on was also hitting. My initial $300 that I cashed out of the $2 Aces and Faces machine had multiplied. I was up over $2800 at one point. Rob, I know you would have cashed out at that point, but $2800 from free play was not enough for me. So I kept playing... and lost it all.

I made a trip to the ATM and took out $1500. The first $500 went in and I started hitting quads again... and then quad aces. (No photo.) My credit meter was slightly more than $3,000 so I took the $2,000 hand pay for the quad aces and put that safely in my wallet, cashed out a $1,000 ticket and decided to try my luck on double double bonus. And I got lucky. Dealt trip-deuces and a 3 (kicker card) and I held only the deuces. On the draw came a fourth deuce with an ace (kicker card) for $4,000. Photo below.

Two hands later... the floor people were only steps away from giving me the handpay... and holding a pair of sixes I drew quads. Photo below.

Rob, you certainly would have cashed out and gone home at this point, but I had $2,000 cash in my wallet from the quad aces so I decided to play more. But I didn't want to see it all go fast playing double double bonus, so I returned to the same machine I was on before and resumed playing Aces and Faces. And I hit my first royal of the year for $20K. Photo below. I took a check for this -- for the full amount -- and the check has already been deposited in my checking account at my bank's ATM.

Sometimes quitting would be the best option, sometimes continuing to play ... just like I've been telling you for years. There is no advantage to win/loss goals over time. Your play from the point of hitting a winner has exactly the same probabilities as you would have if you left and returned another day.

Interesting that you kind of experienced both situations (losing your win after free play and continuing to hit multiple winners) in a single session.

Very nice hands, Alan. Congrats on the royal!

Your luck is running way better than mine this year. Curse of the 20-"THIRTEEN" for me, hah.

  9. #169
Enjoyed every word in your post Alan. No one knows what might happen should one keep playing. More often than not it means losing, which I'm sure you can attest to. That's why I steer away from it, and was happy to keep every penny each time I hit a jackpot in my pictures here. But the best of this need not be said--all the jealousy burning arci's insides up that there are people who have the money to be playing above a buck....and one of them is ME!

    Squeak squeak!

Congrats Alan! What a way to have your first Royal of the year come in the form of a 5 dollar one. Looks like you are on your way to having a winning year. Keep it up and good luck!

I made a quickie trip to Vegas on Friday... because my wife's sister and niece flew in for her birthday. I was not invited to go along for their weekend junket to Palm Springs... where my niece hit her first royal (she just turned 21). So while the girls played in Palm Springs, this old cat took off for Vegas. I also took advantage of a $500 shopping offer and I had great seats (I gave one seat away) to see Celine Dion's new show on Saturday night. I also got to play video poker for about 15 hours. I figure I play about 400 hands per hour, so that meant I played about six thousand hands. In those 6,000 hands I got quad aces twice and... oops... a royal. Photo of the royal below. Some thoughts about this particular royal. Above I wrote about how I hit a royal at Rincon on Thursday night, and this royal came at Caesars Saturday night. The first quad aces came within the first five minutes of play on Friday afternoon. The second quad aces came about an hour later on the same machine.

I didn't realize I was dealt four to the royal. I was tired... (I actually dozed off during Celine's show before this particular session of play)... and all I saw was four diamonds. I didn't realize it was a royal or even a royal-draw until the machine locked up.

Congrats, Alan. Could you drop by and hit the draw button for me the next time I get dealt 4 to a royal?

I've been on a roll lately with 17 4RF chances being dealt in my last 3 trips. However, no hits and I'm now up to 197 consecutive misses over the last 2+ years.

My last 3 trips have had maybe 5 4RF (zero conversions). You must be playing quite a few more hands to be seeing that many 4 RF.

(The gaming Gods have been making it more difficult for me lately because even a simple JOB dealt hand has been very elusive. Ever been into one of those ruts?)

Alan, how much did you win on this quickie trip? And do you actually enjoy sitting at a vp machine for 15 hours?

  15. #175
First, I have to change my "time estimate" at video poker. I spoke with my host today to confirm how much time I spent at VP over the weekend, and it was 10.5 hours and not 15 over the three days.

I had a nice profit, Rob, and I am now profitable for the year. My royal at Rincon on Thursday night was nearly all profit, and the royal at Caesars was partially offset by craps play.

When I was talking to my host this afternoon I wanted to say "what's the next promotion," but I didn't. I'm afraid to go back there.

I will keep playing at Rincon, however, because I get about $450 per week in free play this month.

  16. #176
You seem to be on a run like I was until I stopped playing last week, only my time at the machines was much less. Had only one royal and it was on quarters, but I netted around $13,000 by quitting at various pre-set goals. And I see your last 2 royals were 1 card draws, which elicited several comments. This makes me wonder: what kind of a goofball keeps track of how many four card royals they're dealt....or converts? Why is that even important, except to the ultra-anal?

  17. #177
I guess I'm an ultra-anal player too, Rob, because I also take note of one-card draws.

So since my host tells me I only played VP for 10.5 hours, that means the two royals were only about 4,000 hands apart.

I also can remember the last four or so four card royal draws I've had, but beyond that is cloudy at best because it means nothing. What's the point in writing such frivolous things down? Again, the ONLY meaningful stat is how much was won or lost.

I also have to ask, why are you afraid to go back to Ceasars?

There really isn't much of an incentive for me to go back anytime soon. There aren't any worthwhile promotions coming up -- and the offers I get for the next several months are very low. So the risk-to-reward ratio is not good.

The only real reason to go to Caesars is to play real craps, and I just don't win at craps. And it's pretty much an impossible game to beat.

However, I get good offers from Rincon, it's less than a two hour drive, and I can go -- play my offers -- and immediately leave win, lose or draw.

My tier score is now in excess of 200,000 points so I made 7 Stars again so I have all of those benefits to look forward to through the end of 2014 even if I never play another dime... or quarter.... including the free rooms, annual gift, $500 annual dinner, gift certificates, annual trip, shopping experiences, etc.

It looks like you just ran at least a hundred thou thru the machines in 3 days, plus whatever you played in craps, which doesn't sound insignificant. And you expect very little in the way of offers for that?
