Thread: Big Casino Catfishing

  1. #1
I guess people like posting their big casino wins. Why, I have no idea. I mean -- what's the motive for doing so? Do you really think other people are going to enjoy seeing how much somebody else won? Do you need a pat on the back?

I guess Arci could make the case that the time spent taking photos when playing negative expectation games works in your favor.

Anyway, my point is -- posting alleged wins probably has about as much credibility as posting pictures of European models who you claim to have dated. It could all be catfishing.

I am not one to begrudge the wins of others. I like to see everyone win. Arci could make the case that doing anything but playing 24-7 on a positive game is wasting money. Put the team back together.

I do. I also have a section on my website for mega wins from non-forum members including bad beat jackpots in poker rooms, and the wide area progressive jackpots of a million dollars or more.

It's good to see that people can and do win in casinos. I'd like to know that winning is possible... or why else bother to go?

I like to see them. And as Alan said, it does tend to reinforce the possibilities. That said, I think it can also serve as a form of dick waving.

Now you're just being silly. Nobody would ever do that. BTW, my girlfriend got a new tattoo and wanted to see what everyone thought of it:

I do too. These are all actual winning hits that most vp players constantly think and wish about getting. I don't know why someone would try to imply the pictures are photoshopped or fake or whatever--doesn't make sense unless they ignite some kind of jealousy within. If so redietz, try this the next time a win appears: think of how much Michael Jordan has in comparison to what the poster has. That'll make us seem insignificant, and all will be well.

I'm ignited with jealousy -- but not for Rob's whackadoodle reasons (note post above Rob's).

That's great redietz, but if you aren't driven to jealousy by posted jackpot pictures, where's the specifics on why you believe it's just "catfishing"?

If I win the lottery, I probably won't be able to snap the shutter!

Um, Rob, I'm trying to decipher your last post. Let me try here -- you said if I'm not driven to jealousy, where are my catfishing specifics? I'm pondering this line. One interpretation would suggest that if I am driven to jealousy, then it's okay if I don't share my catfishing specifics? Or, conversely, if I'm not driven to jealousy, I should share my catfishing specifics? I'm lost here. I don't see a relationship between jealousy and catfishing specifics. Should there be one? Help me out.

I think he is asking, why is it catfishing to post photos of jackpots? I admit I was not familiar with the term and looked it up online. Is catfishing the appropriate term? When a professional gambler who sells books and tapes and has a column talks about his big wins is it catfishing or advertising or just blowing his own horn?

By catfishing, I mean projecting an online presence that's primarily make believe. People posting big hands they didn't actually win would be one example.

For an anonymous discussion forum, trying to create a false identity is really going to extremes, don't you think?

I can understand catfishing in terms of perhaps an online dating site, but on a discussion forum about Vegas and casinos? That's too much for me.

You mean like arci accuses me of doing whenever I post pictures of my jackpots? Think about it. You really believe going to a casino and watching high rollers until they hit something, and then going over to take a picture of THEIR win is going to go over well even once?

OK Alan, who's $5 royals were those anyway....

When I tell my wife that I took pictures of the royals that other players hit she doesn't believe me. Then I have to pay the "wife tax."

I can only thank the good Lord above that the world is populated by honest, trusting souls like Rob and Alan. who would never lead us atray.

Does it seem like Singer is just a little too defensive? I wonder why?

I'm still trying to figure out that whole jealousy/catfishing thing. Now if I'm jealous, it's okay to keep specifics to myself? And if I'm not jealous, then I should share the specifics of catfishing? Somehow I never got answers to this, and I'd hate to go through life not grasping the celestial mechanics of jealousy and knowing catfishing specifics.

Don't fret redietz. Lots of people struggle with jealousy. Just look at how envious arci is that my wife is healthy and was never an addicted gambler like his. Imagine how he must feel reading about--and punishing himself for--the adventures and activities of others, when his biggest outings left in life are to Geriatric Park Lanes and an old Indian casino.

Are you accusing me of lying about my jackpots and posting photos of royals that are not mine?

The more Singer attempts to build himself up through denigrating others, the more obvious it is that he is suffering from the exact envy/jealousy he vocalizes. That is the basis of his projection. The nice thing is the people he attacks can smile knowing exactly what the situation is. Poor Robbie, he exposes himself every time.
