Over on another forum there seems to be some dispute about how well certain craps players do at the game and it appears the issue comes down to the definition of some basic terms including what constitutes a "roll of the dice."

Specifically is a "roll" an individual throw of the dice or is it a "hand" or turn with the dice as the shooter?

So maybe we need some definitions to be clear in our discussions about craps. Here's how I use the following terms:

HAND Your turn with the dice as the shooter. Your HAND might be a point/seven-out or your hand might last 20 rolls or longer. Some might use the word ROLL to mean the same as each HAND as in "he had a good roll, as he threw the dice 20 times" or, after making 5 passes the dealer says to you "that was a good ROLL." So clarification is needed.

ROLL Each individual ROLL of the dice. In a hand you will have at least two rolls of the dice. While a "roll" is an individual throw of the dice, some use the word ROLL to also mean a turn or "hand" with the dice. Clarification is needed.

SESSION Your SESSION may contain at least one hand with at least two rolls of the dice. But a session could contain many hands and many rolls of the dice within each hand.

TRIP A trip is made up of session. A trip could have one session or if your trip lasts a week, you could have (for example) one session each morning and each night for each day of your TRIP.

I also tried in the past to get everyone to agree on some definitions of "dice influencing" and "dice control" but no one seemed to want to give it a try. So let me try one more time:

DICE INFLUENCING To put some extra effort into how the dice are thrown so that the dice are not traveling in a random way when they are released by the shooter. Dice Influencing might include a soft throw at a particular angle and hitting a particlar point on the table and bouncing or rolling to a point at the back wall (required at most casinos) while remaining on axis or rotating a limited way off of axis.

DICE CONTROL Being able to direct the dice to hit certain particular numbers on demand when released by the shooter while showing all of the elements of dice influencing to a higher degree.
