Thread: Mother's Day at a casino?

  1. #1
I have to think that taking Mom to a casino on Mother's Day is not a bad idea. All of the big casinos here in Southern California have big buffets or nice restaurants. Pechanga has several good restaurants including a fish house and a steak house.

Rincon has my favorite steak house -- Fiore -- and for the price and quality it tops the best steak houses in Los Angeles.

And let's not forget the spas for Mom. In fact, Sunday could be quite a busy day for the casinos with brunches and lunches and spas and plenty of money going into the penny slots too.

And with many SoCal daytrippers going to the casinos on Sunday it might mean Saturday will be slow. So why not offer some incentives to show up on Saturday?

Harrah's Rincon has a Saturday promotion that might be very appealing: it's a cash giveaway. I received a postcard in the mail offering me upfront cash just to show up (and the amount of the cash makes the drive worthwhile, too) plus there are additional cash bonuses based on your actual play from 6-AM Saturday until 9:30-PM on Saturday night.

For every 200 tier credit earned on slots and table games the player gets $10.
For every 400 tier credits earned on video poker the player gets $10.

And those bonuses are over and above the other comps normally earned.

In the case of video poker, 400 tier credits means $4,000 of coin in and that $10 bonus represents one-quarter of one percent of return.

If you are playing 8/5 Bonus Poker returning 99.17% the promotion could add .25% bringing the game up up 99.42% but on top of that add in the upfront cash being offered to certain players, but the regular comp dollars that will be earned. If you have a little luck you might have a profitable play with this promotion.

Now in my case I have $145 of weekly free play, plus up front cash of $265 that I can put in my pocket. Cost of gasoline to make the round-trip is about $50, but wear and tear on the car, and a drive-thru snack are not figured here.

But I could just pocket the cash, play the $145 and hope for the best. It is very unlikely, however, that $145 of free play would last long enough so that I would have $4,000 of coin in unless I played 25-cent video poker and got very lucky and hit a royal.

Lately, there have been some surprises when I showed up at Rincon. On my last trip when I showed up on a Thursday night I got some sort of special free play promotion worth $300 in addition to my weekly free play of $145. I don't know what that $300 of special free play was all about because it wasn't in any of the mailers I received.

Even though there is this offer on Saturday, I'm pretty confident Sunday will be the big day with Mom going to spa and brunch and Dad playing poker with the kids playing slots.

    Happy Mothers Day.

Hustler Casino, the poker casino near Los Angeles is having a Mother's Day promotion that targets the ladies, of course. This went out in an email blast:

Enjoy a complimentary box of gourmet chocolates from Helen Grace (while supplies last) courtesy of Hustler Casino. And, as a token of our appreciation to all of the hardworking wives and mothers playing in our weekly Sunday Poker tournament, we'll be providing you with a free meal voucher to Larry Flynt's Bar and Grill. Think of it as Mother's Day brunch or dinner without all the fuss.
