Thread: Chumash Casino (Santa Barbara, CA)

I will be driving up from Orange County to Paso Robles this weekend and have decided to stop and check out the Chumash Casino on the way. Anyone ever been there? Alan?

I havent been there but I heard that they have a generous free play offer for first timers -- players club signup required. I think they reimburse your first $100 of losses.

I couldn't find the details on their website: http://www.chumashcasino.com/home.aspx

Be sure you give us a report. I've been tempted to drive there as it's about the same distance as going to Pechanga or Rincon, but since it's not affiliated with any of the Vegas casinos I haven't.

Yeah I am not sure if they are still offering the $100.

I went there for the first time in many years (not even sure if I ever had a players' card) in April. I didn't know about any promotions, so I just got a card with no promos attached.

Decent but not great shoe blackjack game for card counters.

The $100 promo is still on the home page of their website but there is no additional info except to say to inquire at the player's club. I'd be surprised if they didn't update their website and discontinued the promotion.

I will offer a report of the gaming area. The website said $100 was for LA and Ventura county residents, I work in LA but live in Orange County. Wonder if I can sweet talk em.....

Got a work ID with an LA address? Looking forward to your report.

Ah that explains why they didn't give it to me. My ID is from Nevada.

I will try to talk my girlfriend into coming there with me once, and we'll use her ID!

Sorry for not posting about my experiences here sooner. I had to sweet talk them a little bit but they did indeed give me the $100 (well, it was only $50 as they give it out in 2 installments). The place was nice enough but small. Lousy VP paytables, lot of 8/5 Job and 6/5 bonus. Lots of Ultimate X and I went from machine to machine looking for abandoned multipliers and found a number of them. The EV of playing the abandoned multipliers is very high but the problem is that you find many of them on nickel games and then one or two on like 10 play quarter or 50 cent games so the results from those big plays determines the outcome of your whole session. In this case I estimated that I had about $100 in EV but only won about $12. Such is life. I was able to win about $150 more playing $15 baccarat which is a wonderful outcome. There is no booze here which makes it a nonstarter for me. There are a couple of restaurants but I did not eat here though nothing looked terribly impressive.

If the basic VP tables are that poor, it's not worth the trip in that direction. Going the same distance to the southeast I can hit Pechanga which now has better VP than Rincon.

I haven't been to Morongo in almost five years. I used to go there all the time because it is actually the closest of the Indian casinos to me -- about 40 minutes closer than Rincon and 20 minutes closer than Pechanga.

Has anyone been there recently? It used to have at least 10 Super Aces Bonus games all at $1 and all with full pay. Back then they had one $5 Bonus game and two $5 Jacks or Better machines. The place was really loaded with slots.

Two problems with Morongo: they allow 18 year olds to gamble and the place is horribly smokey.

I like the Chumash poker room better than the poker rooms of all the small California casinos. It's not a destination if that is all you are going to do in the area, but if you're going up to Solvang or to the wine country as a tourist, it's worth a side trip. There are only about 16 tables, and usually 10 of them are busy. Most of the games are limit. On Tuesdays they have a Big O live table starting at 11:00 - Big O, 5-card Omaha, Hi/Low. Five cards in your hand, five on the board. You basically need a wheel plus a full house or quads to scoop. Average pot is over $125 which is a lot for a 3/6 limit game with full kill. If you go up there to play that game, and don't make it by 11:00 figure you are going to wait until 5PM for a seat ... the guys that go there simply stay for the day, and never leave. The customer service is good and friendly, and player-oriented. If you ask for the moon you aren't going to get it, but reasonable requests are quickly accommodated. The casino downstairs isn't too smoky, and the buffet, while not the greatest, is very good. They have a great concert hall there; if you don't feel like paying for a ticket, just go to the poker room to play your regular games, because you can hear everything from there.

SpaceCadet thanks for joining and for posting. I wasn't aware they had a poker room there. Do they have any tournaments? Are there comps or promotions for poker players such as drawings? thanks.
