Thread: The devil is in the details of this offer.

The saying is "the devil is in the details" and that is certainly true when it comes to this offer from Harrah's Rincon Casino in San Diego.

This mailer came today for the weekend of June 22/23. This one is for "mystery cash." And the mailer says "each coupon is worth between $300 and $5,000" on each of the two days. So, on both June 22 and June 23 I can claim this offer.

But remember... the devil is in the details. So read on.

Notice the wording on the mailer says "mystery cash" and "each coupon is worth between $300 and $5,000." There is NO mention about free play... only cash.

Now, the mailer does say that to claim this bonus you have to insert your Total Rewards card into any slot machine, then select "accept offer" to start playing. But are they loading "free play" on the machine or are they loading "cash" on the machine that you can immediately "cash out"??

I just got off the phone with my host at Rincon... for the second time.

The first time we talked my host confirmed that this was a "cash offer" and after downloading the "cash prize" on a machine, I could push the cash-out button and take the money and run.

Then my host called me back and said oops, someone in the marketing department there goofed and it is not a "cash offer" but a free play offer and they recognize the problem. There will be a meeting with the hosts and the marketing group later today to discuss the potential problems that might come up when guests come to the casino expecting "cash" when it is really "free play."

My host agreed with me that the mailer certainly looks like a "cash offer" and not a free play offer and it doesn't indicate that it is free play anywhere on the mailer.

I wonder how they are going to handle this? I am sure there will be some players who will complain loudly about the "error."

How would you react, and what would you want the casino to do because of the mistake? Me? If they said they were going to increase the free play guaranteed minimum by 10% I'd be happy. But I think some players wouldn't be happy unless they got an increase in their guaranteed minimum of 25% or more. After all, free play doesn't have the same value as cash.
