You are correct in that the legal sensitivity to the use of this word when you attach someone to it is much, much more than, say, 20 years ago. It is a real legal hair trigger, so I understand where you're coming from. I have read about actual multi-million dollar lawsuits stemming from less than what Rob just posted. The problem seems to be that calling someone a fraud translates into "malice."
