Thread: Casino Markers and Strategy for Players, Casinos

I'd say largely the same for video poker.

I think Rob's at minimal risk carrying that kind of cash. Alan, it wasn't so long ago that the runners for major betting syndicates in LV carried six digits on them all of the time. These guys were generally armed, and people knew that. They very rarely had problems. Back then, carrying 50K was nothing special, and no reason to be particularly nervous.

Hard to get a count on a deck playing only a few hands.

Going to the cage and taking out a few thousand dollars at a time, as you need it, is an evil but taking $57,000 in your pocket to a casino isn't?

The point is, if you are skilled and know how to count then BJ is a positive expectation game. Don't confuse that with what was written in the article which was all about getting ahead by a few bets or units. You can be ahead a few units without a count.

30 years ago i was kicked out of the Riv for card counting. It was a hot table and I didn't even know what card counting was. Was just a lucky roll and a hot table. But because I am very serious when gambling and don't drink or act like a goof, and because I do power press when hot, they thought I was a counter. They are of course more sophisticated now--and I never seemed to get that kind of table any time thereafter before I gave up BJ anyway.

So yes--you can get up without counting.

The point is, Alan, nobody lets you spread bets as needed for counting these days, and they certainly won't let you stand there, count, and then sit down. Plus the deck penetration is nothing today -- if you take a wrong breath or blink twice, they'll reshuffle.

Redietz I understand that but just what is your point? This has nothing to do with the discussion about taking markers, or the point made in the article about how you can be up a few units in BJ without counting, nor does it discount the ability to win at blackjack.

I think though you should start playing at higher class places where they don't do a reshuffle when someone starts to win. I personally am not a blackjack player, but I once played with a close friend of mine who is an expert card counter at Primm and the worst he got from the house was a warning not to increase his bets so dramatically when the count went in the players' favor. (He went from $5 to $100 -- not kidding, and not smart on his part either.)
