Thread: Which California casino offers the best VP at the 25-cent level?

  1. #1
I have been away from California casinos for quite a while. I used to frequent Barona, but I quit going there because they kept lowering their pay tables and removing their better multi-play games. I like to take my wife with me, but she plays strictly quarters. Are there any California casinos offering full-pay machines at the 25-cent level? Is Barona still the best bet? What about Valley View? Is there a publication that provides a list of VP inventories at the various California Casinos?

Theo47 thanks for joining us and thanks for posting.

Recently, I've been at only three of the Southern California casinos: Rincon, Pechanga and Pala. Rincon still has "full pay" Bonus, Aces and Faces and Ace$ Bonus. Jacks or Better is now 8/5 (same as bonus) and their Double Double Bonus games are also 8/5.

When I was last at Pechanga and Pala they both had full pay Jacks or Better, Bonus and 9/6 Double Double Bonus.

These are all at the 25-cent levels.

If anyone else has some updates, please post.

I haven't been back to Morongo in more than 5 years.

Thanks for the feedback, Alan. Between Pechanga and Pala, which casino do you think has the most VP machines?

Pechanga is the biggest casino in the western US, and bigger than anything in Vegas. Pechanga I am sure has more video poker, but I have not asked the casinos for their exact count.

I use vpfree. It seems to have a list but I think it is mainly from casino goers so the "best" machines might not be reported so people can have them to themselves.

This is the inventory for Valley View

I am going to personally check it out next Saturday and see the machines for myself. Also the free Lobster Buffet you get doesn't hurt either.

Perdition thanks for joining us and thanks for posting. I've never played at Valley View but I've heard good things about it. Please give us some more info about it after your visit. Many thanks.

Thanks, Perdition. The one time I went to Valley View was a few years ago. It was dumpy and smoky with low ceilings. I'd be curious to know if it's still like that.

I don't think I'm going to go anyways. I was asking questions about the bus since I am a diabetic and sometimes have to go quite a bit. When I asked the girl in the bus dept if they have restrooms on the bus, she started laughing at me uncontrollably. I asked to talk to the supervisor and the supervisor pretty much blew me off. There was a coordinator I was working with to get my trip ready and when I told her about it, I wasn't offered any kind of comps or something to make up for it. I was just told if I had the "courage" to come down there, they would have me. If they bust your chops like this over something like pissers on a bus, imagine what they will do if you actually win money there. Totally turned me off. Thinking about Pechanga in October but not sure. The main reason I wanted to go to VV anyways was so I could head up the road to Harrah's and rack up some TR points. Not a big loss.

The drive by car between Valley View and Rincon is all of 15 minutes... or less. It's 20 minutes between Pechanga and Rincon. I've seen taxis from time to time on the roads among the casinos, but I don't know what the cost might be.

Yeah I did some research and someone on the Wizard forums posted it as well but there is a bus that goes around the casino way every 2 hours. The North San Diego bus 388. My plan was to use that going back and forth between VV and Harrah's but no harm no foul. If they try to make it up to me with comps or the like I will let you guys know. They have my address but nothing so far except snide remarks so I'm not going to hold my breath.

Well since you said Harrah's has tightened it's belt, even less of a reason to head up this way. Why go there and play below average VP when can just save up for Vegas. The Megabus is back to offering 5-7 dollar buses so that might be the way to go.

On the Valley View front, after I voiced my displeasure, the head of the bus dept. e-mailed me back and said they would do "anything" to get me to come down there. I told them the parameters of my short trip and said if they covered it, I would give them a chance. Of course the guy backtracked and said he would talk it over with the managers and get right back to me. 1 week went by and nothing. So I sent him a tersely worded e-mail asking them why they pushed so hard to have me there if they were going to turn around and ignore me. He then apologized and my "generous" offer was a free buffet(which you get anyways for signing up for their players card) 15 dollars in free play and 10 dollars for dining. It's kind of a joke but I was only going to be down there for 2-3 hours anyways. I'll probably just screw around on the penny slots and do a walk around of the place. I'll post here if I end up going.

    VV is ooook.
    Nothing like Barona or Rincon...
However, when my wife and I went there in June, we were given each $10 dining credit for that night, with each a coupon for a future visit free lobster buffet+line pass..
So we used the $10 each to eat in their recently remodeled cafe (great food and service!) on Friday night
Then Sunday on our way home to NorCal, we stopped in at 3pm, to have an early dinner buffet...
I must say, their lobster buffet is freaking GREAT!! (literally better than almost all Vegas buffets!)
The casino was packed everytime we went...but I was able to find some 25c 8/5 bonus poker machines(spin poker variant), and ended up winning $50.

timspeed: I have often thought about driving to Rincon but it is a longer drive from LA and I've heard a lot about the tough roads to get there. Is there a compelling reason to make the trip?

Alan, As of 10/27/2013 all the bars at Rincon still had the old bonus poker vp games

Thanks spojoey. There are still a few of the upright 25-cent, 50-cent, $1, $5 8/5 Bonus Poker games in the video poker room at Rincon. I counted two. But the real threat to the players is if more of the new Game King machines come in because these all have the reduced pay tables.

Your right only two. The chairs at the bar are not very comfortable and I don't drink alcohol because of the medicine I take and my age. So I had a couple of 7 ups and played quite awhile and did quite well. I just like the idea of getting full pay for two pair. Im not crazy about the new machines.

Well, I am crazy angry about the new machines. As my son said to me Saturday night when we were having dinner at Fiore... "if they keep this up we'll be driving a half hour less each way by going to Pechanga."
