    Yeah right.

Every crapola travel agency these days gets at least 5%.
Not necessarily true. In fact, some airlines do not pay commissions on airline seats alone. The travel industry has been suffering with this change for about the last ten years.

Rob Singer, sorry, but you are off base. If you can get a free meal in addition to winning then you are just that much ahead of the game. You of all people should be milking the casinos for every dime you can considering you are already a winner on their games. Me think thou protesteth too much.

I can't imagine how much money you left on the table with all of your high denomination play because of your silly mantra about not using casinos players clubs and comp systems. It makes me wonder just how much big denomination play you really had? No one that I know who plays high denominations would be (forgive me) stupid enough not to take advantage of the comps that come along with that thigh limit play.

Then how does a travel agency I use give me 5% back on airline bookings? They do this whether or not I use them for other things.

If they weren't getting a commission, they would be eating this money, which I could never see them doing. In fact, they are extremely incompetent, so it's clear that people only use them for the 5% rebate, rather than any legitimate help in booking travel.

One should NEVER, EVER consider the perceived value of comps, freeplay, and other "goodies" as any sort of consolation for losing money gambling. That is exactly what the casinos want you to do. No smart player wants to or expects to lose. Ever. To justify a loss by self-valuing comps and freebies is nothing but a desperate act. Consider examining your method of play instead. It's clear Alan has more money than a drive to do better. That's a personal choice, and he's not pushing excuses for losing - then covering it up with slot club fluff.

Every casino has been adjusting their rules, mostly due to belt-tightening, since they've opened. That's how business works. It has nothing to do with "grinders" or anyone "hammerring them". It's simple business decisions to get the profit margins up. That's what casinos are, businesses.
    You're incorrect.

Being a Vegas-area poker player, I know a lot of people who work in the casino industry, including Caesar's.

I was told specifically that Caesar's changed their Seven Stars requirements in 2013 mainly to combat the Seven Stars grinders.

But that aside, WHY would you not take something for free offered to you by a large company? It's not like it comes with any catches.

Once you've earned these benefits, failing to use them is like lighting money on fire, unless you literally have no use for them (or it's too inconvenient to do so).

For example, one of the Seven Stars benefits is a $500 meal that you get once per year.

I haven't used it yet, but you had better believe I'm not going to let it pass.

    Why would I?

Should I just eat in Vegas and pay myself for a big meal, rather than have Caesar's foot the bill?

    You are making zero sense.

I think you're trying to say that it's a mistake to play a losing game in exchange for higher valued comps, but that is NOT a mistake if your overall expectation is to win when the comps are figured in. And many of these comps have real cash value, such as the freeplay.

I don't know why I'm even trying to explain this to you, because it looks like you already made up your mind in this idiotic fashion long ago, and will never admit you're wrong.

Dan I can't tell you how every travel agency operates or what deals they have. All I can tell you is that when the airlines cut out travel agency commissions on domestic tickets years ago it forced many travel agencies to either close or just book packages to make a dime in commissions. If you can get rebates from a travel agency and they get commissions from airlines then more power to you and to them. The only travel agents I know who book airline tickets do it as a "service" for customers who are also booking hotels, cruises, packages, etc.

Dan, it's funny you mention the $500 dinner comp. I didn't use mine in 2012. And so far I haven't used my 2013 dinner either. I also haven't used my "annual trip" even once in the last four or so years even though it comes with a $500 food credit.

    And there are reasons why:

For the $500 dinners -- I haven't been with a party large enough to use it. In the past two years my trips to Vegas have been with my son and our dinners haven't topped $200 or so yet so I thought using the $500 dinner would be a waste.

For the annual trip -- I've gone to Caesars on other promotions such as shopping sprees or free play promotions and I was told I could not use the annual trip at the same time.

The only time I ever got to combine offers was a few months ago when I could combine a $500 shopping 7Stars Experience with tickets to see Celine Dion. And I think someone pulled some strings to allow me to do that.

I might use the $500 anniversary dinner in a couple of weeks, however, when I might be in Vegas meeting with some clients and I might take them out.

Its kinda funny. Rob said that he did use a player's card during his interview on the Gambler's Book Club podcast.

If I recall Rob has said he did not use a players card as a professional but does as a non-pro or casual player. I don't understand the reasoning behind that.

I hate to bust Rob's chops as he has been very nice to me but I don't think that distinction is very clear in the interview. I will give it another listen tonight...

bigfoot66: I didn't listen to the interview yet. What I wrote is what Rob has said before. I will have to listen to the interview later when I have time.

    BUMP

I have updated the original post with new info.

Most importantly, you can now book first class flights for this trip, without specific host approval. Passport will book whatever flight you want (within a reasonable distance of the casino you're going to), and will just take $600 per person off the fare, and you will pay the difference.

Before, you had to get a host's approval to get economy plus or first class.

Also, I added a section on "reasonable distance", explaining which flight itineraries are okay, and which aren't.

    For example:

Going to Harrah's New Orleans, flying to Miami -- 800 miles away, not OK

Going to Harrah's Lake Tahoe, flying to San Francisco -- 188 miles away, OK (even if not the optimal airport)

Returning from ANY airport, no matter how far from the casino -- OK
