Thread: Hustler Casino $100,000 Bad Beat Jackpot

  1. #1
Hustler Casino near Los Angeles is running a $100,000 Bad Beat poker jackpot this month. Quads must be beaten by quads, and both players must have a pocket pair in their hands. This happens... but rarely. From Hustler:

Hustler Casino is home of the largest Jackpots in the state! Beat the odds every odd hour, every day from 11am to 1 am. This incredible poker jackpot is open to all poker players $3/$6 and above. THIS IS HUGE! This means whether you are a low limit player or the very highest, you have the same chance at a Mega $100,000 Jackpot.

All you need to win this Mega Jackpot is any 4 of-a-kind beaten by any four of-a-kind, and each hand must contain a pocket pair. That’s it! No purchase necessary. No other rules or stipulations. Hours of this promotion are 11am, 1pm, 3pm, 5pm, 7pm, 9pm, 11pm and 1am and this exciting jackpot is only available for a limited time only, running from September 1-30th.

    I hate bad beat jackpots.

These are funded by taking an additional rake from each pot (usually $1), which doesn't sound bad, but it REALLY adds up over time.

How rare is quads over quads?

I've played millions (yes, millions) of poker hands in my life, and I've never been involved in a quads-over-quads hand. I've seen it happen, but it's never happened to me (either winning or losing).

Ive been at "bad beat tables" I think four times (maybe 5), and had a "table share." All of the bad beats were Aces full beaten by quads. I was at the Bicycle one night when quad Jacks beat quad tens but I was not at the table and that was a $100,000 payoff.

I remember one night at Hollywood Park Casino about 6 or 7 years ago, when there were three bad beat jackpots paid within a half hour. But the requirement then was Aces Full losing to quads or better. And that was during the glory days of Hollywood Park when the casino was packed every night.

And about the "rake" for the bad beat jackpot: what many players don't know is that the casino can take out a "fee" for administration. I think at some casinos they take 50% of the rake as their fee.

Yup.. that's another terrible thing about bad beat jackpots. The casino takes a healthy share for themselves.

It's another way to gouge the low limit players (who are already paying an obscene rake, to where it's difficult or impossible to beat the game long term) with false hopes of getting rich while playing low limit poker.
