Thread: Security warning at Harrah's Rincon

Beware "teams" who might try to steal from you as you play slot and video poker machines.

Three times I was "bumped" while sitting at an end machine in the video poker area and each time as I looked up to see who "bumped" me I also noticed that there was a "partner" standing behind me close to my "cash out" button.

I am familiar with this routine, so when I am bumped I immediately put my hand over the cash out button, and immediately turn to see if there are any "confederates."

After the third "bump" I cashed out and moved to another area. I reported this to a manager and to security and they immediately increased the number of security in the video poker room.

Then I was in the high limit room and two women decided to come by and sit at the machine next to me. Neither was playing. Both of them had a glass of wine, and both tried to make small talk. I told them right from the beginning that I was concentrating and didn't want to have a discussion.

One of the two women (the second to come by) actually started to rub my machine "for good luck" however just a few inches from where she was rubbing for good luck I had several cash out tickets for $1,000 each (had a good night). I told her don't do that and please go away.

Later, another player I know came by to say "hello" and wanted to have a conversation. And I was in absolutely no mood at this point.

Meanwhile I had security and surveillance watching.

Glad to hear you didn't lose anything. Heard too many horror stories about bumpers, coin throws, distractors and other things people try to do.

Maybe I'm naive... but since I posted about the "teams" above, I had several conversations with other players at Rincon who have told me stories about everything from panhandlers who spend their time asking for handouts throughout the casino floor to ladies of the night who use the place as their base of operations. I am surprised because I thought Rincon was off the beaten path and because it was a smaller casino it wouldn't attract those elements.

A couple of times over the past several years I've been approached for "money" so someone could get bus fare home, but I've never been approached by hookers.

I think because there are so many casinos in that 10-15 mile stretch, it becomes lucrative for the more unsavory types to work. Harrah's get too hot?? Head up to Pala. Pala gives you the bums rush? Head back down to Valley View and so on.
