Thread: Great Gift Wrap Up at the Flamingo -- Report

  1. #41
I will be there this weekend if anyone would like to say hello.

I should have about 2100 excess points (worth $7) to transfer to anyone who needs them.

I'll be there on Thursday & Friday and would love to say hello to you Todd.
Where and when can we meet?

I think I will also be there on Thursday at Caesars. Perhaps we can set up a meet time at perhaps 5pm at the event? I think they serve free coffee.

I don't meet faceless internet trolls.

PM me your name and phone number, and I will be glad to meet with you face-to-face to discuss whatever is concerning you.

Sassycat and I have just arrived in Vegas. WE are planning on being at GGWU on Thursday as well to finish up our shopping. Five o'clock would work for us as well. I hope we will see you there. If I remember correctly, the free coffee area is adjacent to where you do your final checkout.

So did anyone meet at 5pm?

    Did the GGWU go smoothly?

I haven't done it yet. I just got in.

Drive from southern CA to Vegas was uneventful, but cold.

I saw this on the way here, between Baker and the Nevada state line.

I've never seen this before. 17 degrees is the coldest temperature reading I've ever gotten on I-15 in California. The thermometer is accurate, too.

I can't figure out whether Nobu is partially owned by Caesar's or not.

Central (another restaurant at Caesar's) is independently owned and does not take ANY kind of comp or food credit, except for RCs. Nobu does take comps (I've used them before) and I thought they took food credits, but I got a food credit on my room this time (was part of an offer) and was warned not to use it at Nobu! Strange.

I was there and now I am back home in LA because I have a shoot with a client this morning. I wanted to meet at the "coffee stand" at 5pm but a funny thing happened. I was at a craps table at about 3:40pm when a middle aged man got the dice and shot... and shot... and shot... and shot... and well past 5pm he was still shooting. Now, don't get the idea that he was shooting the dice four times a minute because by the time he had hit five different points for a $10 fire bet to pay $2500 the betting was crazy with players changing and changing their bets and moving chips around, and dealers taking a long time to make payoffs. And the table had attracted a crowd and people were trying to push into the table but all the spots were filled and I even got into an argument with one couple who insisted that we make room for them and we couldn't. It was crazy.

Anyway... I went to the GGWU when it opened at about 10:30am and quickly got the additional gift cards I wanted and quickly checked out all in a matter of minutes.

As I expected the layout at Caesars was much bigger than the spread at Flamingo but the same merchandise.

Now here's the surprise I got:

I wasn't going to go to the Caesars event until Wednesday when I happened to check my online account. I had expected to see about 60,000 gift points from one Rincon bonus day plus some other play. Instead, I had more than 461,000 points. Where the heck did they come from??

I don't know where they came from but I think either there were some other bonuses that I qualified for at Caesars or Rincon that were not loaded onto my online account summary in time for the Flamingo event but showed up for the Caesars event.

To put 461,000 points into perspective: with $100 Shell gas cards at 30,000 points I could have converted all of the points to more than $1500 worth of gas cards... but I got some other gift cards plus some free play out of it.

I would like to report that the free play led to several royal flushes, but alas, my video poker sessions at Caesars were all losers. Playing Bonus I didn't get even one premium 4 of a kind -- meaning -- no aces, 2s, 3s or 4s.

However, while playing two of the folks on the same bank of machines (the new machines back where the restrooms are being remodeled in the Palace casino) hit royals holding only one high card. The lady held a King of hearts, the guy held a Queen of diamonds -- and both of them drew the other four royal cards.

We were there at 5 pm. Finished getting some gift cards for the balance of our points. We did most of our shopping the day before. We walked around looking for someone that looked like Alan. Did not stay long as we had a show to catch at 5:30PM.

For all the issues about CET cutting back, it's nice to see you guys got an unexpected windfall in the form of extra gift points. First LizzyM and now Alan. Good for you guys.

I had no unexpected windfall in points (I'm not as lucky as you guys), but I did have a small pleasant surprise.

I wanted all gas cards. I had 221,365 points. I could get $730 in gas cards but would have 2365 points left over (about $8 worth). You could not buy anything for 2365 points.

I had heard you could get your points topped up at Guest Services, so I went there.

The guy said, "Okay, I can give you those 635 points.... and we'll charge your RCs $12."

    WHAT?!

635 points is worth a little more than 2 dollars. I would be paying $12 in RCs for 2 dollars in points. Can you believe this crap? Why gouge people like this?

I declined, and asked, "Why would anyone want to do this? That's a terrible deal."

He replied, "I know. I try to talk people out of it."

He hadn't tried to talk me out of it, and in fact made a snide comment like, "Well, you do have $2000 in RCs...."

I replied, "So? But why would I want to waste them?"

So I left there and went to checkout. The nice girl at the Seven Stars checkout said she would see if she could get me the 635 points for free, and her supervisor authorized it, and came over and did it.

So I got my extra $10 gas card. Small victory.

Laughable how you have to wait 6-8 weeks for the cards to be shipped, but I'm not in a rush, so I don't care.

The event wasn't very crowded. I went today (Friday) at about 3:30pm.

To be honest, this wasn't a case of CET being generous.

The most likely explanation was a delay in adding bonus points from certain events.

The second most likely explanation (but still possible) is that there were some mistakes. I have never benefited from such mistakes myself, but some of my friends have seen extra RCs and GGWU points in the recent past that they definitely didn't deserve.

I'm not sure this was an "unexpected windfall." It's possible I should have had these points for the Flamingo event in which case I wouldn't have had to make this trip. If they screwed up and failed to post these bonus points prior to the Flamingo event they actually caused me to take an extra trip.

    I agree with this.
